Wholly patient-specific orthopedic implants and implanting apparatuses, system and manufacture thereof

The present invention involves orthopedic implants of small joints in human, in particular a truly patient-specific bone implanting system comprising the implant and surgical tools fabricated by additive manufacturing techniques based on the inputs conforming to each patient's anatomy and obtainable from a wide range of existing 3-dimensional imaging and image processing technologies, which offers a substantial progress in logistics, efficiency of surgical operation, and functionality of treated bones.

Titanium plasma coated medical grade thermoplastic or polymer proximal and distal interphalangeal toe implant

A medical grade thermoplastic or polymer implant with an osteoconductive coating is provided, specifically for corrections of the distal and proximal interphalangeal toe joints of the foot. The implant can be either straight or angled, and can be either solid or cannulated for insertion. The implant is sized and shaped depending on the specific anatomy and desired correction. End portions of the implant may be coated with an osteoconductive coating that promotes bone growth, but may reduce radiolucency. Thus, a central portion of the implant may remain uncoated to increase radiolucency of the implant at the region where two bones come together.

Orthopaedic prosthesis for an interphalangeal joint and associated method

An orthopaedic prosthesis is disclosed. The orthopaedic prosthesis includes a frame including a plurality of beams defining an open-cell structure and a shell applied to the frame. The frame includes a proximal arm, a distal arm, and a central body connecting the proximal arm to the distal arm. The shell extends over the proximal arm, the distal arm, and the central body of the frame. A method of implanting an orthopaedic prosthesis is also disclosed.

An implant including a first segment at a first end, a second segment at a second end, and an intermediate segment coupled to the first segment on a first end and coupled to the second segment on a second end. The first segment may include an insertion tip at the first end of the implant and a body portion adjacent to the insertion tip, the insertion tip extending out from the body portion. The second segment may include an end member at the second end of the implant and a body portion adjacent to the end member, the end member extending out from the body portion. The second segment may include a plurality of tip portions spaced about a longitudinal axis of the second segment, and the tip portions each including at least one barb formed by a taper portion and an engagement portion extending radially into the tip portion.

A method and apparatus for correcting malformed joints, in particular the hammer toe contraction of the proximal interphalangeal joint. The disclosure comprises a two-component implant: a proximal phalanx component and a middle phalanx component. An endosseous stem on each component is inserted axially into the end of a respective host bone and, after insertion, the components are attached. The attached components are held together in various ways, for example a detent arm/aperture mechanism. Each component can be cannulated to allow for the passage of a kirschner wire, if necessary, to stabilize adjacent joints such as the proximal interphalangeal joint. The bones of the treated joint can be set to form a desired angle by adjusting the angle formed by the corresponding endosseous stems.

MODULAR ARTIFICIAL FINGER JOINT IMPLANT

A modular artificial finger joint implant has a first finger joint module and a second finger joint module. The first finger joint module includes a first connecting structure connecting a first joint head element and a first joint root element. The second finger joint module includes a second connecting structure connecting a second joint head element and a second joint root element. A first articular facet of the first joint head element and a second articular facet of the second joint head element are slidable relative to each other. Since the modular artificial finger joint implant is modular in structure and has a variety of changeable combinations, manufacturers' costs on manufacturing and inventories can be reduced. Moreover, a surgery for replacing damaged parts can be performed, so as to reduce cost on replacing.

Internal joint stabilizer device, system and method of use

A stabilization device is provided including an axle and a portion that can be affixed to a bone. The device is used to stabilize a joint while allowing motion of the joint along its natural trajectory and it is placed internally in order to prevent pin tract problems. Additionally, methods for using the device are provided that include, in various sequences, inserting the axle into a bone of a joint, adjusting the geometry of the device and attaching the fixable portion to another bone of the joint. The device can be provided as part of a system including an axis trajectory guide useful for locating the axis of rotation of the joint prior to insertion, adjustment and attachment of the device.
