The invention relates to a shaft for a femoral neck prosthesis, which comprises an anchoring area (27, 29) which is arranged inside the femur in order to anchor the prosthesis into bone, a head area which is axially adjacent to the anchoring area (27, 29) on the proximal side, said head area comprising a device (13) which is connected to the prosthesis head (15), in addition to a distal end which is arranged opposite the head area in the axial direction of the anchoring area (27, 29). The invention is characterised in that the maximum cross-sectional dimension of the head area is at the most equal and, in particular, smaller than the maximum diameter of the anchoring area (27, 29), in such a manner that the maximum cross-sectional dimension of the shaft (11) is in the anchoring area (27, 29).

A cutting device is provided that includes a pair of cutting blades joined at a pivot point. The cutting blades are driven by an actuator to cause the cutting blades to pivot about the pivot point. The cutting device is configured to remove material underneath a surface of an implant installed on a bone during a revision arthroplasty procedure. The cutting device may travel along a length of the bone just underneath the surface of the implant to remove material and free the implant from the bone. A method for removing material underneath a surface of an implant installed on the bone is also provided. A system for removing material underneath the surface of an implant installed on the bone with the cutting device is also provided.

A medical device for implantation in a hip joint of a human patient, the natural hip joint having a ball shaped caput femur as the proximal part of the femoral bone with a convex hip joint surface towards the center of the hip joint and a bowl shaped acetabulum as part of the pelvic bone with a concave hip joint surface towards the center of the hip joint. The medical device comprising; an artificial caput femur, comprising a convex surface towards the center of the hip joint. The artificial convex caput femur is adapted to, when implanted: be fixated to the pelvic bone of the human patient, and be in movable connection with an artificial acetabulum surface fixated to the femoral bone of the patient, thereby forming a ball and socket joint. The medical device further comprises a fixation element comprising a fixation surface adapted to be in contact with the surface of the acetabulum and adapted to fixate the artificial convex caput femur to at least the acetabulum of the pelvic bone.

Orthopaedic surgical instrument for total hip arthroplasty and associated orthopaedic surgical method of use

An orthopaedic surgical instrument includes an assembly collar having a cavity extending between a superior opening and an inferior opening. The cavity is sized to receive a tapered trunnion of an implanted femoral stem. A bore extends between an inferior end and a superior end of the assembly collar and is configured to align with an implant bore formed in the implanted femoral stem. The bore and the implant bore are configured to receive a fastener to secure the assembly collar to the implanted femoral stem. A method of utilizing the orthopaedic surgical instrument is also contemplated.

Partial hip prosthesis
11202711 · 2021-12-21 · ·

A partial hip prosthesis for reducing friction and wear in partial hip prosthesis by combining optimized geometry of the articulation and surface treatment of the prosthetic component. In the prosthesis, one of the articulating surfaces—either that of the reamed acetabulum, or that of the femoral head prosthesis is a-spherical so that a fluid-filled gap is formed at the area of major load transfer. The fluid-filled gap is sealed by an annular area of contact, over which the concave and the convex components are congruent. A prosthetic head is fixed to the femur by either a conventional stem, a perforated shell, or a femoral neck prosthesis screwed onto the femur so that it is partially covered by bone and partially exposed on the medial-inferior aspect, where it abuts the reamed cortex of the calcar region.

System and Method for Total Hip Arthroplasty

Systems and methods for placement of both the prosthetic acetabular cup and the prosthetic femoral head which takes account of the patient's particular anatomy, with inter-operative testing of the patient's body to find an optimum positioning (angles) for the components. The system allows a procedure with less pre-operative and inter-operative imaging, providing for reduced radiation exposure for doctors and patients.

An implant removal tool (1) used to remove a femoral implant (17) from a femur bone (18) by providing a substantially U-shaped body (2) having a substantially rectangular-shaped opening (9) located thereon that allows the substantially U-shaped body to be placed over a neck (21) of a femoral implant so a sharpened front edge (5) of the substantially U-shaped body makes direct contact with an inner surface of the stein of the femoral implant. The U-shaped body may have front side edges (26, 27) that extend beyond a front edge (5) to allow the front side edges to cut anterior and posterior surface of the implant.

APPARATUS, SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING A POSITION OF A HIP PROSTHESIS IN A BONE OF A PATIENT

An apparatus, system, and method for determining a position of a hip prosthesis in a bone of a patient includes determining a set of contact points between a femoral head of a femoral prosthesis and a cup liner of an acetabular cup to be implanted into a patient based on a mechanics model. The mechanics model is indicative of mechanical motion of a hip exhibited during performance of a set of ADL or at corresponding functional positions of the patient. In some embodiments, a mathematical model may be generated based on a plurality of sets of contact points determined using the mechanics model and subsequently used to determine a resultant set of contact points.
