GEARED CAM EXPANDABLE INTERBODY IMPLANT AND METHOD OF IMPLANTING SAME
20170216045 · 2017-08-03 ·

A geared cam expandable spinal implant. Rotational motion of a rotating portion is translated into linear motion of a yoke, which moves geared cams at the distal end of the implant to mate with, and walk along, teeth of corresponding racks. The walking of the gear cam teeth along the rack teeth creates a regular rate of implant expansion, reduces initial excessive expansion force applied to the implant, and provides fine adjustment of the expansion rate and force.

EXPANDABLE IMPLANT AND INSERTION TOOL

An expandable implant includes a body portion, a carriage portion, a deployment assembly, and an expandable portion. The deployment assembly and the expandable portion are attached to the carriage portion, and portions of the carriage portion are moveable out of and into the body portion. When the expandable implant is inserted into a disc space, the expandable portion is expandable to push the upper vertebral body and the lower vertebral body away from one another.

Surgical instruments, systems and methods are described for selecting a size and cutting bone for inserting of an intervertebral disc prosthesis. The surgical instrument includes a combined intervertebral disc prosthesis sizing trial and a slot or channel cutter which is movable with respect to the sizing trial.

Spinal artificial disc removal tool

An extraction tool for removing an installed artificial disc from a spine is provided. The extraction tool is impacted between the artificial disc and the vertebrae and engages the artificial disc to allow a surgeon to remove the artificial disc from the spine.

Surgical instrument for implanting a semi-rigid medical implant

A surgical instrument for implanting a semi-rigid medical implant. The surgical instrument includes a shaft, an accessory shaft, an actuation mechanism and an implant engagement mechanism. The shaft has a channel formed therein. The shaft has a proximal end and a distal end. The accessory shaft is slidably mounted in the channel. The accessory shaft has a proximal end and a distal end. The actuation mechanism is mounted to the shaft proximate the proximal end thereof. The actuation mechanism is capable of causing the accessory shaft to slide with respect to the shaft. The implant engagement mechanism is attached to the distal end of the accessory shaft. The implant engagement mechanism is capable of engaging a semi-rigid surgical implant.

Expandable vertebral implant

The present invention relates to an expandable implant for engagement between vertebrae generally comprising an inner member, outer member, and gear member positioned coaxial with respect to each other such that the inner and outer members are moveable relative to each other along an axis. The gear member is axially fixed to the outer member and freely rotatable with respect to the outer member and the gear member threadedly engages a threaded portion of the inner member to translate inner member along the axis. The implant is configured to engage the vertebrae in a predetermined alignment and the gear member includes gear teeth exposed to the exterior and configured to be accessible by a tool member at a plurality of angular positions around the perimeter of the implant device.

A method for performing lumbar interbody fusion surgery may include forming an access corridor through a facet joint of a patient, removing disc material from a disc space of the patient via one or more instruments advanced through the access corridor, and advancing an interbody device through the access corridor and into the disc space.

Externally driven expandable interbody and related methods

An expandable implant having superior and inferior endplates is disclosed. The superior endplate includes a first inside surface having a crossbar extending in the widthwise direction. The inferior endplate includes a second inside surface having a medial support structure, a threaded core, and a receiving cavity. A threaded locking screw may be disposed in the threaded core, and a proximal saddle may be disposed in the receiving cavity. In various embodiments, in a locked position, a relative position of the inferior endplate with respect to the superior endplate is fixed, and the threaded locking screw directly contacts, pushes, applies a force against, and/or compresses, the proximal saddle, the proximal saddle directly contacts, pushes, applies a force against, and/or compresses the crossbar, the crossbar directly contacts, pushes, applies a force against, and/or compresses the distal saddle, and the distal saddle directly contacts and is engaged against the second interior distal wall.

ARRANGEMENT AND METHOD USED IN THE PREPARATION OF BONE SURFACES OF THE KNEE JOINT FOR THE COMPONENTS OF A PROSTHETIC KNEE JOINT

An arrangement for minimizing the amount of bone initially required to be resected off surfaces of a knee joint prepared using a plurality of user-operable adjustable extension tabs that define a stability gap derived from gap measurements taken in each of extension, mid-flexion and flexion, wherein the stability gap is commensurate with a reference plane derivable from the arrangement wherein a final bone resection with a corresponding bone surface with said reference plane provides for optimum balanced angular movement between the tibia component and the femoral component of the prosthetic knee joint post-surgery.
