Method and apparatus for determining implant positions of two medical implant components forming a joint

A computer-implemented method for determining implant positions of two implant components relative to two bones that form a joint is disclosed. The method includes acquiring a set of target poses to be achieved between the two bones, assessing one or more proposed implant arrangements using the set of target poses, and selecting an implant arrangement from the proposed implant arrangements based on the assessment. Assessing an implant arrangement includes determining a real pose between the two bones for each target pose, calculating a pose deviation value for each target pose based on the target pose and the corresponding real pose, and calculating an overall pose deviation value from the individual pose deviation values. The implant arrangement may be selected based on the overall pose deviation values for the proposed implant arrangements.

COMPUTERIZED PREDICTION OF HUMERAL PROSTHESIS FOR SHOULDER SURGERY
20230085093 · 2023-03-16 ·

A surgical assistance system obtains patient-specific values of a plurality of physical characteristics of a humeral bone of a patient. The surgical assistance system predicts, based on the patient-specific values, a humeral prosthesis (202) for the patient from among a plurality of humeral prostheses, wherein the predicted humeral prosthesis has a filling ratio less than a remodeling threshold for the patient. The filling ratio of the humeral prosthesis is a ratio of (i) a radial distance from a lengthwise central axis of a stem (206) of the humeral prosthesis to an outer surface of the stem, to (ii) a radial distance from the lengthwise central axis of the stem to an inner surface of the intramedullary canal (208) of a humerus of the patient. The remodeling threshold for the patient is a filling ratio above which the humeral prosthesis would cause remodeling in the patient.

Disclosed herein are methods for determining resection depths for a knee arthroplasty procedure. The method may comprise the steps of determining a joint translation threshold, determining a joint translation of the femur with respect to the tibia during a joint gap measurement, setting a final joint gap measurement and determining knee resection depths based on the final joint gap measurement. The joint translation threshold may be defined as a translation distance of a femur with respect to a tibia. The joint translation may be less than or equal to the joint translation threshold.

20230073679 · 2023-03-09 ·

A method and system for guiding knee replacement procedures, the method comprising receiving first data values from one or more sensors and one or more functional measurement devices, performing a reference measurement based on the first data values from the one or more sensors and the one or more functional measurement devices prior to a femoral cut, generating joint replacement recommendations based on the reference measurement, receiving second data values from the one or more sensors and the one or more functional measurement devices, performing a control measurement based on the second data values from the one or more sensors and the one or more functional measurement devices after a femoral cut based on the joint replacement recommendations, receiving third data values from the one or more functional measurement devices, and performing a pressure test that measures loading, balance, and kinematic behavior at medial and lateral condyles based on the third data values.

Computer-assisted arthroplasty system

A computer-implemented method for creating an activity-optimized cutting guides for surgical procedures includes receiving one or more pre-operative images depicting one or more anatomical joints of a patient, and creating a three-dimensional anatomical model of the one or more anatomical joints based on the one or more pre-operative images. One or more patient-specific anatomical measurements are determined based on the three-dimensional anatomical model. A statistical model of joint performance is applied to the patient-specific anatomical measurements to identify one or more cut angles for performing a surgical procedure. A patient-specific cutting guide is created that comprises one or more apertures positioned based on the one or more cut angles.

Method of controlling instrumentation depth in total joint arthroplasty

A method to guide in preparation of a bone relies on an instrument having a shaft with a working end and a stop member. The shaft is free to translate along an axis. Surgical planning data is registered to the bone to determine intra-operative coordinates of the desired axis and depth. The instrument holder is positioned by the bone so the stop member contacts the instrument holder to prevent translating beyond the desired depth. Alternatively, an arm is manipulated to align the instrument with the desired axis. The working end rests on the bone to define a linear separation to the desired depth. By proximally translating the instrument holder to contact the stop member and distally translating the instrument holder along the shaft, the stop member physically stops translating beyond the desired depth. A surgical system for performing the methods is provided; a reamer or impactor are also disclosed.

SURGICAL SYSTEM FOR REVISION ORTHOPEDIC SURGICAL PROCEDURES

A surgical planning system for use in surgical procedures to repair an anatomy of interest includes a preplanning system to generate a virtual surgical plan and a mixed reality system that includes a visualization device wearable by a user to view the virtual surgical plan projected in a real environment. The virtual surgical plan includes a 3D virtual model of the anatomy of interest. When wearing the visualization device, the user can align the 3D virtual model with the real anatomy of interest, thereby achieving a registration between details of the virtual surgical plan and the real anatomy of interest. The registration enables a surgeon to implement the virtual surgical plan on the real anatomy of interest without the use of tracking markers.
