Method for optimization of joint arthroplasty component design
Methods and devices are disclosed for the optimization of shoulder arthroplasty component design through the use of computed tomography scan data from arthritic shoulders.
Patient-specific spinal fusion cage and methods of making same
A method of determining disc space geometry with the use of an expandable trial having endplate-mapping capabilities. An expandable trial is inserted into the disc space and its height is adjusted to obtain the desired decompression and spinal alignment (which is typically confirmed with the use of CT or Fluoroscopic imaging). The endplate dome/geometry dome is then determined by one of the following three methods: a) direct imaging through the trial, b) balloon moldings filled with flowable in-situ fluid (for example, silicon, polyurethane, or PMMA) from superior/inferior endplates or c) light-based imaging through superior & inferior balloons.
Systems and processes for revision total joint arthroplasty
A process and system for performing orthopedic surgery with the use of computer systems and robotic assistance to remove bone, bone cement, and a bone prosthesis, typically a bone prosthesis used in hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, and the like. The process for replacing one or more bone prostheses using a robotic system includes receiving image data comprising an image of each bone, including at least one prosthesis implanted within each bone; creating three-dimensional models of the prosthesis, and the bone; creating a plan for positioning new prostheses within the bone; determining the location and amount of bone and any non-bone material to be removed for the new prostheses; and removing the bone prosthesis from the bone. The inventive process may be used for the replacement of hip joints, shoulder joints, ankle joints, wrist joints, finger joints, toe joints, or other joints.
AN APPARATUS AND SYSTEM FOR ACQUIRING DATA FROM BONES AND JOINTS, PLAN SURGERY AND MANUFACTURE INSTRUMENTS OR IMPLANTS
This invention relates to Patient-Specific Templates (PST) which have already been used by implant manufacturers and clinically applied by orthopedic surgeons. This work presents an apparatus comprised of a unit acquiring data from the surface of bones and joints, a computerized unit for surgical planning and a desktop 3D printer for manufacturing PST, which are functionally, physically and electrically connected. The apparatus is compact, portable and suitable for hospital-based or clinic-based service. The data-collection unit has electro-magnetic (EM) device, diagnostic ultrasound machine, laser scanner and a receiver for acquisition of external data. It integrates the data from multiple sources and has sensor fusion ability. The surgical planning unit has specific software program capable of merging the collected data through mathematical model of specific parts of bones, joints and a library of implants and prostheses.
Trochlear Resurfacing System and Method
A system for repairing a defect on an articular surface of a patient's trochlear region, the system comprising a guide block comprising a body having an exterior surface configured to engage with the saddle portion and ridge portions of the patient's trochlear region, a protrusion extending generally from the body and configured to be received in a first bore formed in the articular surface along a reference axis, and a first cavity extending through the body configured to establish a first working axis displaced from the reference axis, wherein the exterior surface of the body and the protrusion are configured to secure the location of the guide block about the patient's trochlear region. A method for preparing an implant site in bone, comprising: establishing a reference axis extending from the bone; creating a bore in the bone by reaming about the reference axis; securing a guide block about the articular surface; establishing a first working axis extending from the bone using the guide block, the first working axis is displaced from the reference axis; and creating a first socket in the bone by reaming about the first working axis, wherein the first socket partially overlaps with the bore.
BONE IMPLANT SYSTEM, BONE IMPLANT, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SUCH A BONE IMPLANT
A bone implant system, a bone implant produced using such a bone implant system, and a method for producing such an implant. The bone implant system includes a plurality of different disc elements having different external diameters. The disc elements can be stacked axially above one another in different combinations to form different stack arrangements owing to the different external diameters of the disc elements. The different stack arrangements have different outer contours. The disc elements each have an interlocking portion situated on an upper face and a complementary interlocking portion situated on an axially opposite lower face, by which interlocking portions the disc elements can be interlockingly fixed to one another in the different stack arrangements in the radial direction and/or the circumferential direction.
Navigation device for joint replacement and surgical support device
CT images near the pelvis are obtained before surgery, and a three-dimensional model of a pelvis part is created on a computer. The virtual three-dimensional bone model is used to plan an installation position of a guide instrument etc., and a virtual three-dimensional surgical site model including the guide instrument is constructed. Subsequently, during surgery, the guide instrument is installed, and three-dimensional images of a surgical site are obtained, and a measured three-dimensional surgical site model including the guide instrument is obtained. The virtual three-dimensional surgical site model and the measured three-dimensional surgical site model are compared, and an error between an ideal installation position of the guide instrument and an actual installation position of the guide instrument is detected to guide the operator to reduce the error.
ANATOMICAL CONCENTRIC SPHERES THA
Devices and methods for identifying and maintaining the concentric spherical centers of a femur and acetabulum during revision or joint replacement surgery so that post surgery the anatomical spherical centers are maintained. Also disclosed are novel techniques and devices to project images onto an anatomical feature, such as exposed bone, to virtually fit trial prosthetic components, establish bone cut markings, and establishing the anatomical spherical center of a joint.
Method of Implanting a Curable Implant Material
A method of replacing a nucleus pulposus material wherein curable nucleus pulposus material is injected into a balloon in an intervertebral space
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SYSTEM FOR TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT WITH FORCE SENSOR ADAPTERS AND FORCE SENSOR SYSTEMS
An orthopaedic surgical instrument system includes a sensor adapter and multiple surgical instruments. The sensor adapter includes a housing with a force sensor positioned within the housing and a sensor contact configured to transfer force to the force sensor extending from the housing. Each surgical instrument includes a sensor connector configured to receive the sensor adapter at a predetermined location relative to the surgical instrument. Each sensor adapter further includes a registering feature to engage an anatomical feature of a patient or another surgical instrument. The surgical instruments may include a shim that may be attached to a gap assessment tool or a tibial insert trial. Methods associated with the surgical instrument system are also disclosed.
