ANKLE BRACE

An ankle brace for treating or preventing a high ankle sprain is disclosed. The ankle brace includes a body configured to be worn over an ankle. A tightening mechanism is attached to the body and configured to tighten the body around a wearer's lower leg to prevent distal ends of the tibia and fibula from separating. A torsion strap is attached to the body and configured to wrap from a fifth metatarsal to a medial malleolus to limit external rotation of the foot. The ankle brace can include lateral and medial straps for limiting eversion and inversion of the foot. The ankle brace can include heat moldable lateral and medial support plates.

An external ankle brace is disposed on the exterior of a shoe having a heel portion, a toe portion, a sole, and oppositely disposed sides. The external ankle brace comprises a rigid heel enclosure having a rear portion, configured to receive the heel of the shoe, and a forward portion having a medial sidewall and a lateral sidewall for collectively and concurrently at least partially encircling the sides of the shoe. A lateral upright extension includes a lateral reinforcing strut. A medial upright extension includes a medial reinforcing strut. A lower fastening system comprises at least one lower connecting strap for extending underneath the sole of the shoe. An upper fastening system comprises at least one upper connecting strap for selectively connecting the lateral sidewall to the medial sidewall across the top of the shoe.

ADJUSTING MECHANISM OF SUPPORT BRACE

An adjusting mechanism has a longitudinal axis, a lateral axis, a first assembling component, a second assembling component, a worm assembly, a ratchet component, and a knob. The longitudinal axis and the lateral axis are perpendicular to each other. The second assembling component is pivotally mounted to the first assembling component and is able to swing along the longitudinal axis. The worm assembly is mounted to the first assembling component, is able to rotate along the lateral axis, and has a thread twisting along the lateral axis. The ratchet component is mounted to the first assembling component, is able to rotate along the longitudinal axis, is connected to the second assembling component, and has a toothed portion with multiple engaging teeth parallel with the longitudinal axis engaging with the thread of the worm assembly. The knob is mounted to the worm assembly and is rotatable with the worm assembly.

A global osteoarthritis knee brace or orthopedic support includes a flexible, elastic sleeve having a tubular shape with a patella opening at an anterior surface with slits on either side of the opening. The brace includes a first pair of rigid longitudinal stiffeners pivoted therebetween at a hinge that is disposed at the lateral side of the sleeve and likewise at the medial side of the sleeve. The brace further includes an adjustable, flexible patella support having elongated strips at the ends thereof, wherein the patella support is positioned in the interior of the sleeve proximate with the patella opening, where the elongated strips pass from the interior of the sleeve through the slits to the exterior of the sleeve, and extend upward to be adjustably anchored to the sleeve. The wearer pulling on the elongated strips adjusts the patella support.
