Thermoformable splint structure with integrally associated oxygen activated heater and method of manufacturing same

An integrated thermoformable splint and heater and method for manufacturing same includes a thermoplastic material and an oxygen activated heater operatively associated with the thermoplastic material. The integrated thermoformable splint and heater are sealed within an oxygen impermeable housing. Oxygen is allowed to activate the heater either by removing the assembly from the sealed housing, or, by displacement of a removable seal that will allow oxygen to penetrate a porous region in the housing, and, in turn, come into contact with the heater.

Dental occlusion and tension band ties, systems and methods

Embodiments relate to devices, systems, kits and methods for achieving maxillo-mandibular fixation (MMF). In an embodiment, a system comprises a plurality of dental occlusion ties and/or tension band ties (referred to herein as “DO ties” and “TB ties,” respectively). In another embodiment, a system or kit can comprise a plurality of one or both of DO ties and/or TB ties as well as a trimming tool, comfort caps or material, a lip/cheek retractor, and/or an instruction sheet. DO ties and TB ties can simplify the management of mandible fractures and maxilla fractures by helping re-establish precise dental occlusion for MMF.

Foam core sandwich splint

A multi-layered composite material suitable for use in orthopedics includes a foam core layer bonded between two layers of thermoformable polymer material. The thermoformable material is heat formable within a target temperature range allowing for rapid heating and application to a patient such as in the form of a splint. While within the target temperature range, the composite material includes a dwell time sufficiently long to enable proper fitment and adjustment, yet not overly long requiring extended periods of holding the composite material in place. The composite material is very light yet extremely rigid and easily conformable to patients.

Orthopedic Field Splint and System and Method for Use of Same
20210128336 · 2021-05-06 ·

An orthopedic field splint and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the orthopedic field splint, a body has flexion and extension movement parallel to a longitudinal axis between a horizontal axial plane and a rolled sleeve. A coupling member is hingedly connected to the body in overlapping releasable engagement in a closed retracted position and extending beyond the body in an open extended position. A receiving pocket is connected to the body. The receiving pocket and the coupling member having mutually completing mating forms. Multiple sleeves extend longitudinally through the body and each of the sleeves is parallel to the longitudinal axis and configured to accept a rigid slat.
