A fluid transfer system includes packaging having a body with a sidewall extending between an open top end and a bottom end and defining an interior cavity, and at least one protrusion extending radially inward from the sidewall into the interior cavity. The system also includes a fluid transfer device including an inner member and an outer member surrounding at least a portion of the inner member. The inner member having a first position where the inner member is configured to rotate freely relative to the outer member and a second position where rotation of the inner member relative to the outer member is restricted in a first rotational direction. The fluid transfer device also including a locking arrangement configured for cooperating with the at least one protrusion to prevent rotation of the inner member relative to the outer member upon an application of a compressive force on the packaging.

Syringe attachment device and methods

A syringe adapter having a syringe holder and an actuator are disclosed. The syringe holder may include a fixed portion that may receive a barrel of a syringe and an adjustable portion adjustably positioned relative to the fixed portion, where the adjustable portion may receive a plunger of the syringe. To facilitate aspirating fluid to and/or dispensing fluid from the syringe, the actuator may be selectively actuated with one or more digits or a palm of a user's hand to adjust a position of the adjustable portion. The selective actuation of the actuator may be performed with one or more digits of the user while two or more other digits are engaging a portion of the adapter adjacent a dispensing end of the syringe. The adapter may include a gear system translating movement of the actuator to movement of the adjustable portion of the syringe holder.

SYRINGE ASSEMBLY

A syringe assembly includes a syringe barrel (12) having a proximal end and a distal end, a needle hub (20) supporting the needle and coupled to the distal end of the syringe barrel (12). A connecting member (46, 102, 156) is positioned on the syringe barrel for sliding between a first position where the needle is exposed and a second position covering at least a portion of the needle. The connecting member (46, 102, 156) is configured for connecting to a container (50) and supporting the container when said needle is advanced to pierce a septum (90) in said container. In another embodiment, a syringe assembly includes a syringe barrel and an adapter (222, 282, 322) coupled to the distal end of the syringe barrel (12). The adapter (222, 282, 322) is movable between a first position to expose a first portion of the needle (22) having a first length, and a second position to cover the distal end of the syringe barrel to expose a second portion of the needle having a second length.

A septum holder having a body. The body has a disk shaped annular upper body part and a lower body part, at least one resilient elongated arm terminating with a distal enlarged element attached to the side of the body, and a septum fitted into the lower body part so that it extends downward parallel to the at least one arm. The septum is made of a single piece of cylindrically shaped resilient material. The upper part of the septum has a diameter larger than the middle part of the septum in order to form a flange that rests on an annular ledge created around the inside of the bottom section of the body when the middle part of septum slides through the open center at the bottom of the bottom section. The lowest part of the septum has a diameter that matches that of a septum in a fluid transfer component. The septum has a cavity created in its middle part into which an insert having at least one bore that functions as the seat of a needle valve is inserted.

A septum holder having a disk shaped annular body. The body has a cylindrical bottom part that projects downward, a cavity created in the bottom part of the body, an insert comprising at least one bore that forms the seat of a needle valve fitted into the cavity, at least one resilient elongated arm attached to the side of the body, the at least one arm projecting downward and terminating with a distal enlarged element, and a septum. The septum is made of a single piece of cylindrically shaped resilient material. The upper part of the septum has a hollow interior forming a cylindrical recess having an inner diameter no larger than that of the outer diameter of the cylindrical section at the bottom of the body of the septum holder. The lowest part of the septum has a diameter that matches that of a septum in a fluid transfer component. The septum is adapted to be pushed over the bottom part of the body of the septum holder until the solid part of the septum below the recess butts against the bottom of the at least one bore in the insert.

Fluid transfer station in a robotic pharmaceutical preparation system

A robotic system and method are provided for transfer of fluid between a container accessible via a container-septum and a fluid transfer assembly accessible via a fluid transfer connector septum. The robotic system includes a controller and a manipulator controllable by the controller to manipulate at least one of the container and the fluid transfer assembly. Various embodiments are generally directed to fluid container adapters that couple with a fluid container and enable different systems, such as endoscopic systems, to access the contents of the fluid container, such as via a tubing set. Several embodiments are particularly directed to a fluid container adapter that punctures a fluid container to couple with and gain access to the contents of the fluid container. In one embodiment, for example, a platform may be used to support a fluid container as one or more penetration members attached to a crossmember are advanced into the fluid container along rails connected between the platform and the crossmember. In such embodiments, the one or more penetration members may include lumens to enable a tubing set to access the contents of the fluid container.
