In certain embodiments, a vial adaptor for removing liquid contents from a vial comprises a piercing member and a bag. The bag can be contained within the piercing member such that the bag is introduced to the vial when the vial adaptor is coupled with the vial. In some embodiments, the bag expands within the vial as liquid is removed from the vial via the adaptor, thereby regulating pressure within the vial. In other embodiments, a vial comprises a bag for regulating pressure within the vial as liquid is removed therefrom. In some embodiments, a vial adaptor is coupled with the vial in order to remove the liquid. In some embodiments, as the liquid is removed from the vial via the adaptor, the bag expands within the vial, and in other embodiments, the bag contracts within the vial.

Closed fluid transfer system

A closed fluid transfer system for fluidly interconnecting a syringe to any one of a patient I.V. set, a vial and an I.V. bag, is provided and includes a first adapter defining a lumen and supporting a seal across a first end of its lumen, the first adapter supporting a rear end of a needle within the lumen, wherein the seal is movable relative to the needle such that a tip of the needle penetrates through the seal; and a second adapter defining a lumen and supporting a seal across a first end of its lumen; wherein when the second adapter is coupled to the first adapter, the second adapter seal abuts the first adapter seal and moves the first adapter seal relative to the tip of the needle such that the tip of the needle penetrates through the abutting first adapter seal and second adapter seal.

INSULATOR FOR PREVENTING CONTAINER DAMAGE AND RUPTURE CAUSED BY FREEZING OF AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS CONTAINING BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS

This disclosure relates to a system for freezing, transporting, storing and thawing aqueous solutions of biological materials, in particular those used in chemical and pharmaceutical processes. In particular, this disclosure relates to ice-crust attenuator devices to prevent ice-crust formation at the top of the solution. The ice-crust attenuator devices (10) have an internal cavity comprising a phase change material to improve thermal insulation. The ice-crust attenuator device may comprise an internal wall made of a moldable material configured to attain a good thermal contact between the ice-crust attenuator device and the outer surface of the container. In another embodiment, the ice-crust attenuator device is configured to be placed in a refrigerated cavity and in contact with the upper surface of a moldable container, to keep the top of the container under insulated conditions. The ice-crust attenuator device may be connected to a holder to accommodate the moldable container.

Compositions and methods for separating a sample of whole blood or bone marrow aspirate into a fraction rich in at least one of platelets and pluripotent cells are provided. A sample of whole blood can be centrifuged in a collection tube comprising a separator substance formulated to settle between the PRP fraction and the at least one other fraction. Preferably, centrifugation is completed without substantial activation of platelets. Optionally, the separator substance could be hardened to form a solid barrier that allows removal of all or substantially all of the platelets in the PRP fraction without remixing of the PRP fraction with the at least one other fraction. Transfer devices and methods are also provided in which a sterile sample can be transferred from a separation/preparation container (e.g., vacutainer) to a consumer or other container (e.g., dropper) while maintaining sterility of the sample.

In certain embodiments, a vial adaptor comprises a housing configured to couple the adaptor with a vial, an access channel, a regulator channel, and a regulator assembly. The access channel is configured to facilitate withdrawal of fluid from the vial when the adaptor is coupled to the vial. The regulator channel is configured to facilitate a flow of a regulating fluid from the regulator assembly to compensate for changes in volume of a medical fluid in the vial. The regulator assembly can include a valve configured to transition between a closed configuration and an opened configuration.

A sealing device for a medication vial which is highly efficient and easy to use. The sealing device comprises a valve and a compressible stopper. Fitted vertically on top the valve and stopper is a coupling portion. When a syringe is coupled to the sealing device, the syringe compresses the stopper which in turn exposes an aperture defined in a central neck portion of the valve. As medication is withdrawn from the vial, the medication enters the valve and travels through the central neck where it then exits through its open apertures and subsequently into the syringe itself. As the syringe is withdrawn, the stopper is allowed to expand or relax which again closes the apertures defined within the central neck of the valve, thereby ceasing the flow of medication through the sealing device.

A vented transfer lid includes an inner collar projecting from a top panel of the transfer lid and having an outer circumferential surface having a texturized electrical discharge machining (EDM) surface finish. In some example forms, an interior surface of the top panel includes a texturized EDM surface finish. In example forms, the transfer lid includes a transfer port wherein at least a portion of an interior surface of the transfer port includes a texturized EDM surface finish. In other embodiments, at least a portion of the vented transfer lid comprises a nonpolar boundary such that fluids exposed to the nonpolar boundary bead and form droplets having a dimension rendering them incapable of passing through one or more vent paths.

Pressurized Gas Powered Liquid Transfer Device and System

A transfer device for transferring a medical fluid from a vial to a medical fluid injection device includes a vial holder where a vial spike positioned within the vial holder is configured to enter a vial containing a medical fluid when the vial is inserted into the vial holder. An expansion chamber having an interior cavity is in fluid communication with the vial spike. A pressurized gas cartridge is positioned with the interior cavity of the expansion chamber, while a puncture tip is configured to puncture the pressurized gas cartridge when actuated by a user. The vial spike is also configured to be in fluid communication with an injection device attached to the transfer device.

Pressure-regulating vial access devices and methods

In certain embodiments, a vial access device for removing liquid contents from a vial includes a piercing member extending from a base of an insertion member and a reservoir. The reservoir can be contained within the piercing member and the insertion member, such that the reservoir is introduced to the vial when piercing member is inserted into the vial. The piercing member is adapted to be opened inside the vial to expose the reservoir to the contents inside the vial. A locking mechanism can prevent the piercing member from being inserted into the vial unless the vial access device is fully coupled to the vial and/or prevent the piercing member from being withdrawn from the vial without uncoupling the vial access device from the vial.
