Automated methods and systems for washing platelet concentrates
Automated systems and methods for providing platelet concentrates and synthetic storage media with reduced residual plasma volumes are disclosed. The disclosed systems and methods reduce the residual volume of plasma in platelet concentrate to obtain a platelet product having a volume of plasma that is approximately 5% or less of the total platelet product volume. The disclosed systems and methods also reduce the residual volume of plasma in platelet concentrate to obtain a washed platelet product, wherein the volume of plasma in the washed platelet product is approximately 1% or less of the total washed platelet product volume. Storage media for platelets including less than approximately 10% plasma are also disclosed.
Manifold diaphragms
The specification discloses a portable dialysis machine having a detachable controller unit and base unit. The controller unit includes a door having an interior face, a housing with a panel, where the housing and panel define a recessed region configured to receive the interior face of the door, and a manifold receiver fixedly attached to the panel. The manifold includes diaphragms adapted to minimize the dead space between the dialysis machine pins and improve responsivity. The base unit has a planar surface for receiving a container of fluid, a scale integrated with the planar surface and a heater in thermal communication with the container. Embodiments of the disclosed portable dialysis system have improved structural and functional features, including improved modularity, ease of use, and safety features.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING AND CONTROLLING FLUID BALANCE DURING A BIOLOGICAL FLUID PROCEDURE
Described is a method for controlling fluid volume balance. A controller is configured with a first set of inputs comprising a hematocrit, a total blood volume, and an ACD ratio. A maximum extracorporeal RBC amount during the procedure is estimated based on the first set of inputs. A fluid circuit is primed with a priming fluid. Whole blood is drawn from a blood source and separated into a RBC component, a target cell component, and a plasma component. The target cell component is directed to a product container. The product container comprising the target cell component is treated. A treated target cell component, a portion of the RBC component remaining in the fluid circuit, and/or a portion of the plasma component remaining in the fluid circuit are returned to the blood source. A first response action is provided if the maximum extracorporeal RBC amount estimated is above a programmed limit.
EASILY MOVABLE BLOOD PURIFICATION SYSTEMS
A dialysis system may include a blood circuit, a cassette, a subsystem having a processor, a sensor, and a blood pumping mechanism, a housing in which the subsystem is arranged, a movable support arranged in the housing and configured to hold the sensor and/or the blood pumping mechanism of the subsystem, a cassette holder configured to removably receive the cassette, and a loading system. The loading system may be configured to move the movable support, e.g. by an axial movement, to a first position and to a second position relatively to the housing while the cassette holder is fixedly arranged in the housing. The loading system may have an electric motor controlled by the processor, a drive assembly coupled to the electric motor, and a guiding assembly configured to cooperate with the drive assembly.
Configurable System To Automate Blood Component Manufacturing Processes
A configurable automated blood component manufacturing system includes a durable hardware component and a single use fluid flow circuit. The hardware component includes a pump station, a centrifuge, and a controller including a touchscreen. The hardware component further includes hangers for suspending containers, a weight scale associated with each hanger, a plurality of tubing clamps, and a cassette nesting module including a plurality of valves and pressure sensors. The fluid flow circuit includes a separation chamber received in the centrifuge, a fluid flow control cassette mounted in the cassette nesting module, and a plurality of containers in fluid communication with the fluid flow cassette. The controller is pre-programmed to automatically operate the system to perform one or more standard blood processing procedures selected by an operator by input to the touchscreen, and is configured to be further programmed by the operator to perform additional blood processing procedures.
SYSTEMS, ASSEMBLIES, AND METHODS OF TRAUMA MANAGEMENT
A system for performing extracorporeal blood treatment of recovered blood can include a reservoir to receive a first portion of the recovered blood from a subject, an inline pump coupled the reservoir to regulate a flow rate of at least the first portion of the recovered blood, and an extracorporeal blood conditioner including at least one of an oxygenator to reoxygenate hemoglobin included in the recovered blood for at least intravenous delivery back to the subject or a temperature regulator configured to selectively control a temperature of the recovered blood.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING A FLUID PROCEDURE USING HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE
A computer-implemented method comprises providing a fluid circuit comprising fluid pathways configured to mount and associate with a durable processing device comprising a pressure sensor in communication with a controller and a fluid pathway. A container is connected to the pressure sensor and may receive a volume of fluid. A change in pressure values between a first and second time is measured from when the volume of fluid is not in communication with the pressure sensor to when the volume of fluid is in communication with the pressure sensor, the volume of fluid within the container or a presence or absence of a fluid connection to the fluid pathway based on the change in pressure values is determined, and a response action is executed if the volume of fluid within the container is not within an authorized volume range for the time period, or if a fluid connection is unauthorized.
