A system for priming a fluid system includes first and second fluid connectors configured to interface with a fluid source, a first connector configured to couple with an inflow line of the fluid system, a second connector configured to couple with an outflow line of the fluid system, and a gas release valve. A method of priming the fluid system includes coupling the first connector with the inflow line, coupling the second connector with the outflow line, coupling the first fluid connector with the fluid source, and elevating the fluid source.

This invention is directed to system and methods for the oxygenation of the blood of a patient, comprising an extracorporeal blood circulation path adapted to be coupled to the patient's vascular system, and comprising apparatus for oxygenating blood flowing therein and withdrawing CO2 therefrom, wherein the flow rate of blood flowing in said extracorporeal blood circulation path does not exceed of the patient's blood flow. The extracorporeal blood circulation path preferably comprise a cartridge including an oxygenator and at least one cannula.

A liquid in the blood circuit is suctioned into the effluent discharge flow path by driving the liquid discharge pump in a state in which the blood circuit and the effluent discharge flow path are connected in a manner that allows for liquid feeding through the blood purifier.
