Fluid Circuit Priming Methods, Devices, and Systems
According to embodiments, priming systems, methods, and devices are disclosed which allow medical treatment devices which pump fluid to be primed with minimal operator intervention and a high level of convenience. A blood circuit with a filter fitted with one or more air vents on a non-blood compartment is attached to a treatment system and priming fluid pumped slowly through the blood circuit in a loop. The source of fluid may be elevated, or the pumping may generate pressure, such that priming fluid is forced through the membrane of the filter and out the air vent(s). In embodiments, the vents are hydrophobic which prevent fluid from being ejected, so the priming system can run without intervention.

An apparatus (1) for CRRT is provided comprising a blood circuit (10, 20, 30, 60) with a blood removal line (20), a treatment unit (10), and a blood return line (30). A replacement fluid container (78) is configured for containing a medical fluid, a pre-infusion line (70) has a first end (70-1) connected to the replacement fluid container (78) and a second end (70-2) connected to the blood removal line (20) and a blood pump (22) is active on the blood circuit. A replacement fluid pump (72) is active on the pre-infusion line (70), a dialysate circuit (40, 50, 70) comprises an effluent line (50) configured for discharging fluid from the second chamber, and a control unit (80) is connected to the replacement fluid pump (72) and to the blood pump (22) and is configured for performing a rinse-back procedure for restituting blood to a patient. The rinse-back procedure comprises conveying blood contained in the blood circuit (10, 20, 30, 60) towards the second end (30-2) of the blood return line (30) using the medical fluid.
Priming System and Method for Dialysis Systems
The application is directed to an extracorporeal blood processing system capable of using dialysate to prime the system. A plastic molded compact manifold supports molded blood and dialysate fluidic pathways along with relevant sensors, valves and pumps. The compact manifold is also disposable in one embodiment and can be detachably installed in the dialysis machine. A two-way valve in the manifold is used to direct the dialysate flow through the blood circuit to prime the circuit for use in treatment.
HYDROPHOBIC FILTERS FOR AIR MANAGEMENT IN DIALYSIS MACHINES
Dialysis systems and methods for operating dialysis machines (e.g., peritoneal dialysis machines) for conducting dialysis treatments, may include a dialysis machine for transferring dialysate to a patient from a dialysate bag, and a warmer pouch for flowing the dialysate through to heat to a predetermined temperature before flowing into the patient. The dialysate may flow from the dialysate bag through the warmer pouch for pumping into the patient via tubing. A filter may be coupled to the warmer pouch, and the filter may be configured to filter out air content from the dialysate.
BLOOD TREATMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Dialysis systems comprising actuators that cooperate to perform dialysis functions and sensors that cooperate to monitor dialysis functions are disclosed. According to one aspect, such a hemodialysis system comprises a user interface model layer, a therapy layer, below the user interface model layer, and a machine layer below the therapy layer. The user interface model layer is configured to manage the state of a graphical user interface and receive inputs from a graphical user interface. The therapy layer is configured to run state machines that generate therapy commands based at least in part on the inputs from the graphical user interface. The machine layer is configured to provide commands for the actuators based on the therapy commands
