Systems and methods for monitoring an operational state and/or a fill status of a drug container of a drug delivery device are provided. The drug container can hold a liquid drug. A plunger can be positioned within the drug container. A drive system can advance the plunger to expel the liquid drug from the container. A monitoring system can detect a movement and/or a position of the plunger and/or any component coupled to the plunger. The detection can enable determination of an amount of liquid drug that has been expelled and/or an amount of liquid drug remaining in the drug container. Dosing rates, flow rates, and dosage completion can also be determined.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for delivery of a drug to a recipient. In some embodiments, the delivery apparatus may unseal a drug containing reservoir. In some embodiments, the delivery rate may be controlled and/or adjustable. Optionally the apparatus may be disposable. Optionally, the apparatus may have a low profile and/or be wearable and/or attachable to the recipient. Optionally, discharge of the drug and/or unsealing of the reservoir may be driven by a plunger moving parallel to the base of the apparatus. Optionally, the apparatus may release a hypodermic needle into the recipient. Optionally, release of the hypodermic needle may be in a direction non-parallel and/or orthogonal to the direction of movement of the plunger. Optionally, prior to release, the hypodermic needle may be preserved in an aseptic state by a needle opening septum sealing a needle opening. Optionally, upon release, the hypodermic needle may pierce the needle opening septum.

Apparatus is described for administering a substance to a subject. A vial contains the substance and a stopper is disposed within the vial and is slidably coupled to the vial. A first threaded element is (a) rotatable with respect to the vial and (b) substantially immobile proximally with respect to the vial during rotation of the first threaded element. A second threaded element is threadedly coupled to the first threaded element. At least a distal end of the second threaded element is substantially non-rotatable with respect to the vial, and the distal end of the second threaded element defines a coupling portion that couples the second threaded element to the stopper. The first threaded element, by rotating, linearly advances the stopper and at least the distal end of the second threaded element toward a distal end of the vial. TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY DEVICES AND METHODS

A transdermal drug delivery device includes a reservoir, a transdermal membrane, a piston, a control rod, a spring, and a rotational cam. The reservoir is configured to hold a formulation. The transdermal membrane is configured to allow the formulation from the reservoir to pass therethrough. The piston is configured to move into the reservoir. The control rod is attached to the piston and includes a plurality of teeth thereon. The spring is configured to apply force to the control rod in the direction of the reservoir. The rotational cam has a first camming surface and a second camming surface that are configured to engage with the plurality of teeth. The rotational cam, when rotated, is configured to disengage the first camming surface from a first tooth of the plurality of teeth, thereby allowing the spring to advance the piston into the reservoir to expel the formulation onto the transdermal membrane.

There is described a patch pump comprising a cartridge, a power source, a pump system, a drug delivery device and a control system configured to operate in particular the pump system and the drug delivery device. The pump system includes, on the one hand, a pump having a pump housing containing a pump piston and a valve piston and, on the other hand, a pump drive including a piston motor and a valve motor for driving the pump piston and the valve piston independently from each other through a first and a second transmission. The drug delivery device includes a transdermal delivery system having a needle actuation mechanism configured for transdermal insertion of a cannula.

Present disclosure generally relates to devices and methods for conveying small amounts of fluids, and particularly relates to apparatus and method for scalable fluid delivery to achieve minimal motion of syringe plunger using multiple kinematic chain elements/pathways actuated by a single Motion Actuating Device (MAD). The scalable fluid delivery apparatus provides first kinematic pathway corresponding to high linear resolution mode of Piston Drive Member (PDM) and second kinematic pathway corresponding to low linear resolution mode of PDM. The first kinematic pathway includes final step of delivering fluid comprised in syringe, upon pushing plunger, and second kinematic pathway includes final step of performing forward motion or reverse motion of PDM. Forward motion, or reverse motion of PDM is for priming barrel and removable fluid delivery tube or to revert the PDM to an initial position, respectively, or to deliver the fluid.

A pump for treating a patient is disclosed that includes a spring-biased plunger biased toward actuation against a tube; a cam shaft configured to actuate the spring-based plunger; a lever actuatable between a closed position and an open position; a shaft coupled to the lever, the shaft having a central axis centrally along the length of the shaft, the shaft coupled to the lever to rotate around the central axis in accordance with actuation of the lever; and a lift cam pivotally coupled to the shaft, wherein the lift cam pivots around a lift cam axis, the lift cam axis of the lift cam is parallel to the central axis of the shaft, and the lift cam engages with the spring-based plunger to lift the spring-biased plunger off of the cam shaft as the shaft rotates in accordance with actuating the lever to the open position.
