A method for regulating glucose levels according to the present disclosure may include inserting a catheter into a patient's gastrointestinal tract, positioning the catheter in a duodenum of the patient's gastrointestinal tract, expanding or inflating a portion of the catheter in the duodenum, the expandable or inflatable portion of the catheter including electrodes, applying energy to the duodenum via the electrodes to ablate tissue of the duodenum, and delivering a drug therapy to the ablated tissue of the duodenum.
Active fixation of neural tissue electrodes
An implantable neural tissue electrode assembly includes a cylindrical electrode lead with at least one electrode contact on the outer surface of the electrode lead. An active distal end fixation anchor is located at the distal end of the electrode lead and is adapted to fasten to adjacent tissue by rotation in a fastening direction. A passive rear fixation anchor is located on the outer surface of the electrode lead offset a longitudinal distance back from the distal end and has at least one curved blade with a blade tip directed away from rotation in the fastening direction. The rear fixation anchor is adapted to permanently fasten to adjacent tissue by rotation opposite to the fastening direction so that the blade tip cuts into the adjacent tissue, and the electrode assembly is adapted such that physiological induced strains are distributed along the electrode lead.
Microelectrode and multiple microelectrodes
A medical microelectrode includes an elongate electrode body including a tip section, a main body section and, optionally, a coupling section. The tip section, the main body section and, optionally, the coupling section are embedded in a first electrode matrix element, which is substantially rigid, biocompatible and soluble or biodegradable in a body fluid. Additionally the microelectrode includes a dissolution retarding layer on the first electrode matrix element and/or a second electrode matrix element disposed between the first electrode matrix element and the electrode. Upon dissolution or biodegradation of the first electrode matrix element a drug comprised by the first electrode matrix element or the second electrode matrix element is released into the tissue. Also disclosed are bundles and arrays of the electrodes and their use.
HIGH FREQUENCY AND MEDICINE TREATMENT DEVICE FOR GENERATING CONTINUOUS SKIN IMPROVEMENT EFFECT
Disclosed is a treatment device capable of suppressing generation of pain in a person to be treated and obtaining a continuous and fundamental skin treatment effect. The treatment device includes a handpiece body, a needle unit which is provided at one side of the handpiece body and includes a plurality of needles including hollow portions therein and having front ends inserted into an epidermis of skin of a person to be treated, a high frequency generator which is electrically connected to the needle unit, receives a high frequency current when the front ends of the needles are inserted into the epidermis, and heats the needles using the high frequency current, and a medicine delivery unit which communicates with the hollow portions of the plurality of needles and delivers a medicine to the epidermis through the hollow portions when the front ends of the needles are inserted into the epidermis.
Therapeutic electron and ion transfer via half-cell
A therapeutic electron transfer device including a half-cell and an ionically conductive path for ion transfer between an organism and the half-cell. The half-cell includes an electrically conductive electrode, an active material in contact with the electrode, and an electrically conductive path for electron transfer between the organism and the electrode. The active material includes an oxidizing agent or a reducing agent, such that electron transfer occurs spontaneously from or to the organism, respectively. A kit includes therapeutic electron transfer device and instructions for use. Two therapeutic electron transfer devices may be used simultaneously or alternately to provide electrons to an organism, withdraw electrons from an organism, or both.
Method for increasing the permeability of an epithelial barrier
Disclosed are nanotopography-based methods and devices for interacting with a component of epithelial tissue and increasing the permeability of the tissue. Devices include structures fabricated on a surface to form a nanotopography. A random or non-random pattern of structures may be fabricated such as a complex pattern including structures of differing sizes and/or shapes. Microneedles may be beneficially utilized for delivery of an agent to a cell or tissue. Devices may be utilized to directly or indirectly alter cell behavior through the interaction of a fabricated nanotopography with the components of epithelial tissue.
