Exercise machine with movable user support

An exercise machine with a two directional pivoting user support assembly has a user support or platform which supports the user and pivots about a first pivot axis during an exercise movement, and is also pivotable about at least one second pivot axis to involve the user's core muscles in balancing and maintaining the user support in a stable position. A manually operable locking device with a simple flip switch lever is provided for selectively locking the user support against rotation about the second pivot axis, so that the user can easily chose whether to perform the exercise with a stable support or to add a level of difficulty by using the unstable seat mode and exercising core muscles during the exercise.

End walls and side walls of the cradle define a cavity sized to receive the free weight assembly. The end walls engage plate portions and locking element portions of outermost weight plates of the free weight assembly when received in the cradle. Inboard surfaces of the side walls engage portions of weight plates in at least the first weight plate set to substantially inhibit the first weight plate set from moving vertically or laterally between the side walls. The configuration of the inboard surfaces of the side walls aligns the weight plates in the first weight plate set both vertically and horizontally so that central openings in the weight plates for receiving a selector shaft are substantially concentric.

An exercise machine including a vertical post and an adjustable pulley. The vertical post includes a plurality of engagement holes. The adjustable pulley is slideably connected to the vertical post. The adjustable pulley includes a pull pin and a lock. The pull pin is selectively engageable with one of the plurality of engagement holes. In response to the pull pin being engaged with an engagement hole, movement of the adjustable pulley relative to the vertical post is restricted. The lock is selectively engageable with the pull pin. In response to the lock being engaged with the pull pin, movement of the pull pin is restricted.
