VIBRATING BODY UNIT AND ULTRASONIC PROBE
A vibrating body unit includes a vibration generator, a vibration transmitter and first amplitude enlarger. The vibration generator generates ultrasonic vibration whose amplitude has a predetermined correlation with a frequency. The vibration transmitter has a proximal end and a distal end while the vibration generator is attached from a proximal side, and transmits the ultrasonic vibration to a distal side in a longitudinal axis direction. At least one first amplitude enlarger is provided in the vibration transmitter, and enlarges the amplitude of the ultrasonic vibration at a first amplitude enlargement rate in a direction of transmission of the ultrasonic vibration, the first amplitude enlargement rate having a correlation with the frequency opposite to the predetermined correlation.
Ultrasonic surgical instruments with control mechanisms
Various embodiments are directed to surgical instruments for use in handheld applications or with robotic surgical systems. The surgical instruments may comprise an end effector to treat tissue and a shaft extending proximally from the end effector along a longitudinal axis. Some embodiments may be usable with an instrument mounting portion of a robotic surgical instrument. For example, the shaft may extend proximally to the instrument mounting portion.
VIBRATION TRANSMITTING UNIT AND ULTRASONIC TREATMENT INSTRUMENT
An extending portion of a vibration transmitting unit. is capable of transmitting ultrasonic vibration from a proximal side to a distal side, and in the extending portion, a second component provided on the distal side with respect to a first component. A third component provided between the first component and the second component in the extending portion has a third cross-sectional area that is larger than a first cross-sectional area of the first component and is smaller than a second cross-sectional area of the second component, and one of vibration anti-nodes is positioned at third component by the extending portion vibrating at a frequency in a predetermined frequency range.
MEDICAL SYSTEMS AND RELATED METHODS
A medical system includes a sheath and an acoustic reflective element that is capable of amplifying acoustic energy. Methods of using a medical system are also provided herein.
Ultrasound catheter for disrupting blood vessel obstructions
Ultrasound catheter devices and methods provide enhanced disruption of blood vessel obstructions. Generally, an ultrasound catheter includes an elongate flexible catheter body with one or more lumens. An ultrasound transmission member or wire extends longitudinally through the catheter body lumen and, in many embodiments, a guide wire tube also extends through the same lumen. A distal head is fixed to or otherwise mechanically coupled with the distal end of the ultrasound transmission member or wire and is positioned adjacent the distal end of the catheter body. Although the distal end of the catheter body overlaps the distal head, the distal head is not directly affixed to the distal end of the catheter body. Thus, the distal tip may move freely, relative to the distal end of the catheter body when ultrasonic energy is applied through the ultrasound transmission member. Such a freely floating distal head enhances the efficiency of an ultrasound catheter, enabling the catheter to ablate calcific occlusions and increasing the useful life of the ultrasound transmission member and catheter.
Ultrasonic Tip With Protrusion Defining A Preaspiration Hole
An ultrasonic tip for use with a surgical handpiece to produce both longitudinal and torsional motion. The ultrasonic tip comprises a shaft having a longitudinal axis extending between proximal and distal ends having respective first and second diameters with the first diameter greater than the second diameter. The ultrasonic tip also comprises a cutting feature coupled to the distal end of the shaft. The shaft defines an aspiration lumen that extends along the longitudinal axis of the shaft. A protrusion on the shaft is positioned between the distal end and the proximal end of the shaft. A portion of the protrusion having a third diameter, and the third diameter is less than the first diameter and the third diameter is greater than the second diameter. An aperture is defined by the protrusion and in fluid communication with the aspiration lumen, and the protrusion reinforces an area surrounding the aperture.
Methods and devices for endovascular therapy
The present invention provides methods and devices for treating endovascular disease. Vibrational energy is delivered to change compliance and increase permeability at the treatment area. To improve clinical outcomes, one or more therapeutic drugs may be delivered to the treatment area.
Lithotripsy Probes and Methods for Performing Lithotripsy
Various medical devices are described herein. More particularly, various probes used for performing lithotripsy and methods of performing lithotripsy are described. In an example, a probe comprises an elongate member comprising a proximal end, a distal end, a proximal portion, an intermediate portion, and a distal portion. The proximal portion has an outer diameter that is greater than the outer diameter of the distal portion.
Treatment Of Ischaemia
An endovascular apparatus for crossing through an obstruction in a blood vessel comprises an elongate endovascular wire and a coupling. The coupling when in use transmits ultrasonic energy along the wire from an ultrasonic energy source to an active tip at a distal end of the wire. The coupling is arranged to couple the source to the wire at any of a plurality of discrete operational positions along the length of the wire for said transmission of ultrasonic energy to the active tip.
Surgical instruments with articulating shafts
Various example embodiments described herein are directed to articulating surgical instruments for treating tissue comprising an end effector and a shaft extending proximally from the end effector along a longitudinal axis. In certain embodiments, the shaft comprises a plurality of transverse spacer members as well as first and second rotatable members extending through at least a portion of the plurality of transverse spacer members. The first and second rotatable members may both be biased away from the longitudinal axis such that their respective directions of bias vary with rotation of the first rotatable member. When the respective directions of bias of the first and second rotatable members oppose one another, the shaft may be substantially straight. When the respective directions of bias of the first and second rotatable members are aligned with one another, the shaft may articulate away from the longitudinal axis in the direction of the alignment.
