20230123949 · 2023-04-20 ·

The invention relates to a medical instrument having a hollow shaft, whose proximal end can be connected to an operating unit and having a tool tip arranged at the distal end of the shaft having a tool arranged at the distal end of the tool tip, wherein the tool has two jaw parts, which can be pivoted relative to one another and wherein the jaw parts are pivoted via actuating elements which are mounted so as to be axially displaceable in the shaft and which can be actuated on the proximal side via the operating unit and wherein the tool tip can be pivoted via a joint mechanism relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft.

In order to provide a medical instrument, which ensures a uniform transmission of tensile and compressive forces even via the pivot region to the tool tip, it is proposed according to the invention that the pivotable jaw parts are each coupled via an articulated drive element to the distal end of an actuating element mounted so as to be axially displaceable in the shaft such that the articulated drive element spans the region of the joint mechanism between the distal end of the shaft and the proximal end of the tool tip.

Medical systems, devices and methods are provided for engaging tissue, e.g. for clipping tissue, closing a perforation or performing hemostasis. Generally, the medical system including a housing, first and second jaws rotatable relative to the housing, a driver, and an elongate drive wire. The elongate drive wire may be disconnected from the driver, first and second jaws, and the housing, which are left in vivo engaged with the tissue.

Deployment mechanisms for surgical instruments

A deployment mechanism for selectively deploying and retracting an energizable member and/an insulative member relative to an end effector assembly of a surgical instrument includes one or more actuators, a clutch assembly, and a drive assembly. The clutch assembly is configured to couple to the actuator(s) to provide rotational motion in the first direction in response to such rotation of the actuator(s) and to decouple from the actuator(s) in response to rotation thereof in the second direction. The drive assembly is operably coupled to the clutch assembly and is configured to convert the rotational motion provided by the clutch assembly into longitudinal motion to translate the energizable member and/or insulative member from a storage position to a deployed position and to translate the energizable member and/or the insulative member from the deployed position back to the storage position.

Cam driver for surgical instruments

An end effector assembly includes first and second jaw members movable between an open and closed position to grasp tissue therebetween. First and second proximal flanges extending proximally from the second jaw member and defining a space therebetween, a proximal flange extend proximally from a proximal portion of the first jaw member and define a cam slot. A cam driver operably is coupled to the proximal flange of the first jaw member to define a space between the cam driver and the proximal flange of the first jaw member. A cam bar is disposed within the space defined between the cam driver and the proximal flange of the first jaw member. The cam bar includes a cam pin configured to move within a cam slot of the cam driver to move the first jaw member relative to the second jaw member between the open position and the closed position.

A surgical tool having an open-close end effector is to be provided. The surgical tool includes: a shaft; a wrist that is connected to the shaft rotatably about a first axis; a first jaw member and a second jaw member, each of which is supported rotatably about a second axis; and an elastic member that applies a repulsive force between the first jaw member and the second jaw member. The surgical tool further includes: a first jaw capstan provided for the first jaw member; a first cable that pulls the first jaw member; a second jaw capstan provided for the second jaw member; and a second cable that pulls the second jaw member.

TREATMENT TOOL, TREATMENT TOOL ASSEMBLING METHOD, AND TREATMENT TOOL DISASSEMBLING METHOD

A treatment tool includes: a sheath extending along a longitudinal axis; a fixed gripping piece protruding from a distal end of the sheath; a movable gripping piece that is movably attached to either the sheath or the fixed gripping piece, the movable gripping piece being configured to grip a living tissue between the movable gripping piece and the fixed gripping piece; and a movement restricting portion configured to allow movement of the movable gripping piece in a first range and restrict movement of the movable gripping piece in a second range different from the first range. The movable gripping piece is attachable to and detachable from either the sheath or the fixed gripping piece at a movement position within the second range.

Hybrid laser cutter

A tool has a handle and an elongate shaft that extends distally from the handle. A distal portion of the shaft is inserted into a subject during a surgical procedure. An optical fiber delivers laser energy to a tip at the distal portion of the shaft. The tip includes a mechanical cutting mechanism including a moving part that absorbs the laser energy, thermally conducts the absorbed energy to tissue that is disposed between the moving part and another part, and moves with respect to the other part in order to cut tissue that is disposed between the parts using a mechanical force that is lower than a mechanical force that would be required to cut the tissue in the absence of the laser energy. Other embodiments are also described.

SURGICAL FORCEPS INCLUDING REPOSABLE END EFFECTOR ASSEMBLIES

A surgical forceps including a housing having a movable handle coupled thereto and movable between an initial position and a compressed position is disclosed. A drive bar is operably coupled to the movable handle such that movement of the movable handle between the initial and compressed positions effects longitudinal translation of the drive bar. The drive bar further includes a coupling member disposed at a distal end thereof. An end effector assembly includes first and second jaw members movable between spaced-apart and approximated positions. Each jaw member defines a cam slot. A cam pin is slidably disposed within the cam slot of each of the jaw members. The coupling member is configured to releasably engage the cam pin such that movement of the movable handle between the initial position and the compressed position effects movement of the jaw members between the spaced-apart position and the approximated position.
