Implantable facet fusion devices
Implantable devices for the treatment of degenerative facet joint disease, and more specifically to implantable devices for the immobilization or fusion of degenerated facet joints, particularly of the cervical spine are provided. The devices may be easily inserted into the facet joint, promoting fusion and initiating a natural healing response. Also provided are methods of treating degeneration of a facet joint using these implantable devices.
Interspinous spacer and facet joint fixation device
A biologically implantable device including a spacer body and fasteners for fixing the spacer body in place between vertebrae, and a method for use of the device to improve intervertebral spacing and correct foraminal stenosis, and to immobilize facet joints and promote fusion of adjacent vertebrae to each other. A drill guide may be used in providing bores in the facet joints to receive the fasteners.
Devices and method for treatment of spondylotic disease
A distractor includes a first plate and a second plate. The first plate includes an outer surface having a surface irregularity provided thereon and an inner surface having a protrusion provided thereon. The second plate includes an outer surface having a surface irregularity provided thereon and an inner surface having a recess provided thereon. The protrusion engages with the recess in a ball and socket configuration that permits relative movement of the first and second plates.
Bi-directional fixating/locking transvertebral body screw/intervertebral cage stand-alone constructs
A bi-directional fixating transvertebral (BDFT) screw/cage apparatus includes an intervertebral cage having a plurality of internal angled screw guides and screw members and a screw locking mechanism. The screw locking mechanism has leaf springs mechanically interacting with ratcheted screw heads of the screws and allowing the ratchet teeth of the screw heads to rotate only in a penetrating direction and preventing rotation of the screw head in an opposite direction. The intervertebral cage is adapted for posterior lumbar intervertebral placement, anterior lumbar intervertebral placement, anterio-lateral thoracic intervertebral placement, or anterior cervical intervertebral placement.
Surgical implant device and surgical implant insertion assembly for the translation and fusion of a facet joint of the spine
A surgical implant device configured to be implanted in a facet joint of a spine, comprising: a substantially cylindrical central body portion; and a pair of substantially prismatic side portions extending in radially opposite directions disposed on either side of the substantially cylindrical central body portion; wherein the substantially cylindrical central body portion is configured to be disposed in a central hole formed across the facet joint and crossing a plane of an articulating surface of each of a superior facet and an inferior facet thereof; wherein each of the substantially prismatic side portions is configured to be disposed in a side hole parallel to the central hole formed across the facet joint and crossing the plane of the articulating surface of each of the superior facet and the inferior facet thereof; and wherein each of the side holes partially overlap the central hole.
Methods and apparatus for stabilizing bone
In some embodiments, a method comprises disposing a portion of a flexible fastening band into contact with a first bone portion and into contact with a second bone portion. The portion of the flexible fastening band having a substantially uniform shape configured to substantially compliment a shape of the first bone portion and a shape of the second bone portion. The method further includes inserting the portion of the flexible fastening band into a fastener and advancing the portion of the flexible fastening band through the fastener until the first bone portion and the and the second bone portion are stabilized.
Bioactive fusion device
In a first broad aspect, there is provided herein a bioactive device and system for fusion between two bones, two parts of a bony joint, or a bony defect, such as of the spine. The fusion device includes a screw having a head and a threaded shaft. The fusion device also includes a bone dowel having an internal bore of which at least a distal portion is threaded to engage the threads of the screw shaft. The bone dowel is made of a bone-like, biocompatible, or allograft material to provide a layer of bone-like, biocompatible, or allograft material between the screw and the spinal bone. The device is generally coaxial and is further described in the drawings and description herein.
Devices and methods for vertebral stabilization
Devices, systems and methods for the treatment of spinal instability and/or stenosis of the spinal canal and neural foramina. In one embodiment, a functional spinal unit (FSU) of a subject is approached through a lateral or antero-lateral corridor, and both an anterior and posterior column of the FSU are manipulated, implanted and/or otherwise surgically treated through the same intra-abdominal surgical corridor. A method is disclosed to reach the posterior aspect of the FSU, wherein the intra-abdominal surgical corridor is extended posterior to the psoas major muscle and through the thoraco-lumbar fascia in order to reach the transverse process and/or facet joint. Multiple trajectories for bone screw fixation of the vertebral bone are additionally disclosed. In another embodiment, the FSU is approached through the above corridor and a second posterior skin incision and corridor. The combination of the corridors provided circumferential access to the FSU.
EXPANDABLE INTERVERTEBRAL DEVICE
A unique, universal Zero-Profile Expandable Intervertebral Spacer (ZP-EIS) device for fusion and distraction throughout the entire spine is provided which can be inserted via anterior, anterolateral, lateral, far lateral or posterior surgical approaches dependent on the need and preference. Multiple ZP-EIS embodiments each with unique mechanisms of calibrated expansion are provided. Two of these embodiments incorporate bi-directional fixating transvertebral (BDFT) screws and five other embodiments do not incorporate BDFT screws. A tool for implantation into the intervertebral device and calibrated device expansion is also disclosed.
VERTEBRAL JOINT ACCESS AND DECORTICATION DEVICES AND METHODS OF USING
Devices and methods for improved controlled and targeted decortication of the bone of a spinal facet joint are provided. In one aspect, a decortication tool is provided. The decortication tool may include a shaft with proximal and distal end portions. A handle may be connected to the proximal end portion of the shaft. A decortication head may be coupled to the distal end portion of the shaft. In another aspect, a multi-use instrument for use in a spinal system is provided. The instrument may include a body including opposing first and second sides, and opposing first and second surfaces. A cavity may be defined in the body, the cavity being open to the second surface. The instrument may include a bar attached to the second side of the body. A portion of the bar may extend beyond the second surface of the body.
