TARGETING DEVICE FOR SCREW INSERTION IN DISTAL END OF BONE
20220296284 · 2022-09-22 ·

The present application provides a new and innovative device for aiding in screw installation through a distal end of a nail installed in a patient's bone (e.g., humerus). The nail's distal end is disposed away from an insertion point of the nail into the bone. The targeting device includes a targeting body having an outer frame, a flexible member connected to the outer frame, a targeting block having multiple holes and connected to the flexible member such that the flexibility of the flexible member enables the targeting block to translate towards sides of the outer frame, and an adjustment assembly that adjusts and maintains the targeting block's position relative to the sides of the outer frame. The targeting device further includes a base plate removably coupled to the targeting body. The targeting device may be coupled to the nail at the base plate.

The invention comprises a method for fixating bones in the foot by aligning the bones in their desired position, inserting a screw in the aligned bones, inserting at least one transverse element near the head or tip of the screw, and tightening the screw to compress the bones. The screw comprises a shaft having first and second ends with spirally wound screw threads beginning near the first end and extending along the shaft. Advantageously, the screw is cannulated and screw threads are formed on an interior surface of the cannulation. Illustratively, the transverse elements may be staples, open-ended washers, or open-ended nuts. Reduction instruments and drill guides used in the invention are also disclosed.

PROXIMAL HUMERAL STABILIZATION SYSTEM

Devices, systems, and methods for bone stabilization, especially proximal humeral stabilization. The stabilization system may include a bone plate having an elongated portion extending along a longitudinal axis and an enlarged head portion extending from the elongated portion. The stabilization system may include an intramedullary nail having an upper portion and a lower portion extending from the upper portion, the upper portion and the lower portion including a plurality of holes. A plurality of fasteners may be configured to extend through one or more of the plurality of through holes in the bone plate and/or one or more of the plurality of holes in the intramedullary nail and into the bone. The plate and nail may each be used alone or in combination together to stabilize a fracture in a long bone, such as a humerus.

Locking intramedullary nail system

An intramedullary (IM) nail system for the fixation of fractured bones in a patient comprising a nail and compression screws. The length of the body is divided into a distal section and a proximal section with the distal section containing multiple interference sections having a diameter less or greater than that of the body. The threads adjacent the nail head have an apex generally greater than the diameter of the body. The compression screws are dimensioned to be inserted through the bone and contact the nail, pressing it against the bone canal. The nail, once inserted, lies below the surface of the bone.

Proximal humeral stabilization systems and methods thereof

An intramedullary nail implant for positioning in a bone having a head and a shaft defining an intramedullary canal. The implant includes a distal portion having a shaft extending along a central axis and configured for positioning within the intramedullary canal. A proximal portion extends proximally from the distal portion. The proximal portion defines a contact surface which extends at least in part medially of the central axis such that it is configured to extend within a medial portion of the bone head. A method of implanting the nail is also provided.
