Compositions and methods for treating bone fractures
Provided herein are compositions and methods for treating bone fractures. In particular, provided herein are systems comprising carbon fiber sleeves and biocompatible polymers and the use of such systems in treating or preventing bone fractures.
Intramedullary Nail for Transverse Distraction
The invention relates to an intramedullary nail (1) for transverse distraction of a tubular bone (2), the intramedullary nail (1) comprising an at least partially hollow tube body (3) extending in an axial direction of the intramedullary nail (1), at least one locking means for locking the tube body (3) in an end portion of the tubular bone (2), a first inner part (5) and a second inner part (7), which are each arranged within the tube body (3) so as to be displaceable in the axial direction toward each other or with each other, a drive within the tube body (3) for axial displacement of the first inner part (5) relative to the second inner part (7), at least one longitudinal recess (11) in the tube body (3), and at least one lever mechanism (20) which comprises at least one lever element (9, 23, 24) which is designed to be extended out of, and to be retracted again into, the tube body (3) in a radial direction, wherein the displacement of the first inner part (5) relative to the second inner part (7) causes the at least one lever element (9) to be moved or extended out of the at least one lateral longitudinal recess (11) in the tube body (3) or causes the at least one lever element (9) to be moved or retracted into the at least one lateral longitudinal recess (11) in the tube body (3).
MEDICAL IMPLANT, AND KIT COMPRISING SUCH A MEDICAL IMPLANT AND A GRIPPER FOR SAID MEDICAL IMPLANT
A medical implant (1) designed to enable bony fusion between a first bone (20) and a second bone (21), said implant being in the form of an elongate part comprising, extending along the longitudinal axis of the part, a head (2) and a body (3) spaced apart from each other by a connection zone (4) connecting the head (2) to the body (3), said head (2) being suitable for being inserted into the first bone (20), said body (3) being suitable for being inserted into the second bone (21), said body (3) being a hollow body that is slotted longitudinally along at least a portion of its length in order to define at least three elastically deformable longitudinal tabs (5) by means of which said body (3) is suitable for being inserted into the second bone (21).
Each longitudinal tab (5) of the body (3) is an arcuate tab (5) that presents an outer face (6), i.e. directed towards the outside of the body (3), extending longitudinally in curved manner with curvature having its concave side directed towards the outside of the body (3).
STENT
A stent is disclosed that has an elongated body having a proximal end, a distal end, at least one open spiral channel formed on the exterior surface of the body to provide fluid communication between the proximal end and the distal end. The stent also has a central lumen open at the proximal and distal ends of the stent for the passage of a guide wire. A method for using the stent and a kit containing the stent are also disclosed.
Stent
A bioabsorable stent is disclosed. The stent is made of a polymer and/or non-polymer material and has an elongated body having a proximate end, a distal end, and at least one open channel formed on the exterior surface of the elongated body to provide fluid communication between the proximal end and the distal end. Also disclosed is a bioabsorable stent having an elongated center rod having a proximate end and a distal end and a plurality of leaflets extending outward from the center rod and forming channels between two neighboring leaflets to provide fluid communication between the proximal end and the distal end.
Method and device for delivering medicine to bone
A method for delivering multiple substances in a delay fashion to a bone of a patient is provided. The method includes providing a cannulated bone screw, creating an aperture in the skin of a patient, and inserting the bone screw into a bone of the patient through the aperture. The method further includes delivering a first substance into the bone through the bone screw, wherein the first substance changes over time into a solid hardened material, and then delivering a second substance into the bone through the bone screw after the first substance changed into a solid hardened material. The solid hardened material of the first substance may be a permeable material that allows the second substance to transport through, or the second substance may transport through the first substance by diffusion, or may reach a desired location in the bone through pores or cracks in the hardened solid material.
STENT
A stent is disclosed that has an elongated body composed of a bioabsorbable polymer having a proximal end, a distal end, two open spiral channels formed on the exterior surface of the body to provide fluid communication between the proximal end and the distal end. The stent also has a central lumen open at the proximal and distal ends of the stent for the passage of a guide wire. A method for using the stent and a kit containing the stent are also disclosed.
EXPANDABLE BONE NAIL
An intramedullary nail is suggested comprising a nail shaft with a lateral recess, with an expansion element being arranged in that recess, and an adjustment screw for adjusting the position and orientation of the expansion element relative to the nail shaft. A threaded bore may be formed in the nail shaft, wherein the threaded bore extends through the nail shaft and into the recess and is adapted to receive the adjustment screw.
EXPANDABLE OSSEOINTEGRATION BONE FIXATION APPARATUS FOR USE IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS
The embodiments disclosed provide an expandable osseointegration bone fixation apparatus configured to be attached to an affected or fractured bone. The apparatus includes an elongated housing containing a cylindrically shaped intraosseous insert have an expansion mechanism. The insert further includes a set of inwardly angled tapers designed to be attached to a diaphyseal bone where a set of diametrically opposed congruent inserts are configured to incrementally expanded in opposite directions and cause an incremental force against the inside surface of the housing to increase compression to the affected bone.
