The device comprising two or more anchoring devices adapted to implanted intramedullary and attached to a bone in said mammal and an adjustment device for exerting force on said anchoring devices, said adjustment device being adapted to postoperatively adjust at least one of the distance between or orientation of, at least two of said anchoring devices. The operation device further comprises a motor and said operation device is adapted to operate said adjustment device. The operation device further comprises a gearbox connected to the motor, wherein an outgoing speed from the gear box is lower than the speed by the motor alone, accomplished by the gearbox, and wherein the outgoing speed of the gearbox is less than 10 turn per second during normal operation. The device also comprises a control device adapted to control the operation device, wherein the control device is: programmed to control the device according to a pre-programmed time-schedule, and programmed to control the device based on input from a sensor or measuring device sensing any possible physical parameter of the patient or any functional parameter of the system.

ANCHORING DEVICE

Various implementations include an anchoring device including a tubular body and at least one anchor. The at least one anchor extends along an opening between a first axial end and a second axial end of the opening. The at least one anchor includes a shape memory material. The at least one anchor is movable from a retracted position to an extended position by either increasing the temperature of the anchor above an austenite finishing temperature or decreasing the temperature of the anchor below a martensite finishing temperature. The anchor has a smaller radius of curvature in a plane that includes the longitudinal axis in the extended position than in the retracted position. When used as a coupler for medical implants, the device can be easily removed and reimplanted during re-surgery without damaging the bone of a patient by increasing or decreasing the temperature of the shape memory material anchors.

A medical implant (1) designed to enable bony fusion between a first bone (20) and a second bone (21), said implant being in the form of an elongate part comprising, extending along the longitudinal axis of the part, a head (2) and a body (3) spaced apart from each other by a connection zone (4) connecting the head (2) to the body (3), said head (2) being suitable for being inserted into the first bone (20), said body (3) being suitable for being inserted into the second bone (21), said body (3) being a hollow body that is slotted longitudinally along at least a portion of its length in order to define at least three elastically deformable longitudinal tabs (5) by means of which said body (3) is suitable for being inserted into the second bone (21). Each longitudinal tab (5) of the body (3) is an arcuate tab (5) that presents an outer face (6), i.e. directed towards the outside of the body (3), extending longitudinally in curved manner with curvature having its concave side directed towards the outside of the body (3).

Intramedullary bone fixation device for ribs

An intramedullary bone fixation device that includes a shaft with a flexible region. The flexible region may be configured to flex from a first shape to a second shape as the shaft moves along a curved medullary canal. For example, the bone fixation device may include a distal bone screw that is configured to move along the curved medullary canal of first and second segments of a fractured bone (e.g., two segments of a broken rib) and fasten to the segment bone segment. The bone fixation device may include a locking member (e.g., a proximal bone screw) that is configured to lock the shaft to the first bone segment. For example, the shaft may be fixed to the distal bone screw and ratchetably coupled to the shaft such that the first and second bone segments can be compressed together by urging together the distal bone screw and the locking member.
