Bone fixation devices having a locking feature
10130402 · 2018-11-20 · ·

Devices and methods for locking one or more bone screws to a fixation plate. A cam-style locking feature may be disposed in the fixation plate such that, when the locking feature is in a first position, the bone screw is able to traverse an opening in the fixation plate and engage adjacent bone; and when the locking feature is rotated into a second position, an interference between the locking feature and bone screw causes the bone screw to be firmly secured to the fixation plate.

Distraction plate system

The present invention provides plate systems for distracting and fixating vertebral bodies of animal (preferably human) spines. In some embodiments, the system includes: a biocompatible plate with at least two holes, at least two biocompatible distraction screws for insertion through the holes, each screw having an expandable head, a bore and a threaded shank, and at least two biocompatible fixating screws with threaded shanks. Insertion of the fixating screws into the distraction screws causes the expandable heads to expand and lock to the biocompatible plate. Optionally, the plate and the expandable heads comprises mating teeth configured to lock the expandable heads to the plate upon expansion of the expandable heads. The present invention also relates to use of the plate system to distract and fixate vertebral bodies.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR JOINT REPAIR

A bolster system having a first bolster device, a second bolster device, and an adjustable tether that includes a one-way pre-tied slideable adjustment knot. The adjustment knot is at a first position prior to insertion of the first bolster device into a passageway in one or more bones. The second bolster device includes a body portion having an outer portion that is sized to be received in the passageway and/or in an aperture of a bone plate. The body portion also includes a channel that is sized to accommodate recessed and/or embedded placement of the pre-tied slideable adjustment knot. The second bolster device can also include an oversized plate portion that abuts against a cortex of a bone or a wall of a bone plate. The second bolster device can also include a threaded member or retention tab that lockingly secures the second bolster device to a bone plate.

SECURING FASTENERS

A fastener, for example a bone screw, is sized to pass into an aperture of an implant, for example, a bone plate, the fastener having an anchor portion engageable with body tissue, and a head portion formed by an assembly of an insert and an anchor extension. The insert and anchor extension cooperate to form a reduced dimension passable into the aperture, and an expanded dimension not passable out of the aperture. The size of the assembly may be configurable, for example, by tabs, ramped surfaces, or an expanding diameter of a threadable insert.

Hip fixation with load-controlled dynamization

System, including methods and apparatus, for hip fixation with load-controlled dynamization. In exemplary embodiments, the system may comprise a fixation element, such as a screw, configured to be placed into a proximal femur of a subject, with a leading end of the fixation element anchored in a head of the proximal femur. The system also may comprise a stop member configured to be connected (e.g., via a nail or plate) to the proximal femur. The system further may comprise a deformable member configured to be irreversibly deformed by compressive force exerted on at least a portion of the deformable member by the fixation element and the stop member in response to a load applied to the proximal femur by the subject, such that the fixation element and the stop member move relative to one another parallel to a long axis of the fixation element.

In an exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides an anchor assembly that can be used for the fixation or fastening of orthopedic devices or instruments to bone tissue. In particular, the present invention preferably provides a variable angle or fixed angle anchor assembly that is able to securely connect the orthopedic device to bone tissue even when there is a variance in the angle and position of the assembly with respect to the device. Furthermore, in an exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides an anchor assembly having a locking mechanism that will quickly and easily lock the anchor assembly with respect to the orthopedic device.

Endosseous screw assembly and internal fixation system comprising said endosseous screw assembly

Orthopedic anchor assembly

An orthopedic assembly may include an orthopedic device, an anchor, and a locking mechanism. The orthopedic device can be a plate member having an aperture that is configured to receive the anchor. The anchor can include a head, neck and shank portion. The head portion can include a plurality of arms separated by grooves that are capable of splaying. The assembly is configured such that when the locking mechanism is inserted into the head portion, this causes expansion of the arms of the head. This expansion locks and secures the anchor to the orthopedic device. Various instruments are provided that can deliver the locking mechanism to the anchor, and can provide impact to lock functionality.
