BONE PLATE WITH INSERT(S) FOR OPTIMALLY DIRECTING FASTENERS
20220257294 · 2022-08-18 · ·

An apparatus is provided for fusing bones of the human body. The apparatus comprises a bone plate which generally is a member having one or more fixation apertures, configured to receive fasteners, and an insert aperture. The bone plate comprises a semi-rigid material, such as a biocompatible metal or Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), possessing a tensile strength suitable for immobilizing bones. A convertible insert is configured to be retained within the insert aperture. The convertible insert is configured to optimally direct a fastener towards a chosen point of purchase for fixating or compressing bones. In some embodiments, the insert is configured to direct a fastener at an oblique angle relative to a plane of the fusion plate. In some embodiments, the insert is configured to direct a fastener at a substantially right angle relative to the fusion plate.

VARIABLE ANGLE ORTHOPEDIC FASTENERS FOR FIXATION OF AN ORTHOPEDIC IMPLANT

Systems for variable angle insertion of surgical fasteners relative to an orthopedic plate with locking of the surgical fastener relative to the plate upon insertion. The systems may include a pivot member secured relative to either the orthopedic plate or the fastener. In either regard, the pivot member may provide locking engagement with the plate to lockingly engage the fastener relative to the plate.

The invention concerns a bone plate system comprising: a bone fastening element comprising a shaft with a first thread with a first lead length, the fastening element further comprising a head with a second thread on its outer surface, the second thread having a second lead length, the outer surface having a first hardness; and a bone plate with a second hardness which is smaller than the first hardness, the bone plate comprising a non-threaded through hole in a non-assembled state for receiving the bone fastening element, the hole comprising a first hole portion with a first three-dimensional shape and a second hole portion with a second, different three-dimensional shape. The first lead length substantially equals the second lead length, and the second thread is arranged to irreversible deform the wall of the hole to form a female thread on the wall.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FUSION OF ANATOMICAL JOINTS

The present disclosure relates to improved plate and screw systems for use in fusion and other surgical procedures, which improve the ability to effectively affix adjacent bodies without gapping or experiencing loss of compression over time. The systems include plates having armatures configured to receive bushings, the bushings configured to pivot and rotate and thereby permit a greater degree of orientation of corresponding screws placed through the bushings. In embodiments, the bushings comprise anti-rotation elements which lock the bushings in a desired orientation. Methods for use of the components described herein are also disclosed.

Bone plate with accessory elements attached at bone fastener holes

A bone plate assembly is provided for stabilizing a bone fracture. The bone plate assembly includes a bone plate, a first fastener, a second fastener, and an accessory element. The bone plate has a bone contacting, lower surface and an opposite upper surface, and a plurality of screw extending through the bone plate from the upper surface to the lower surface. At least one of the screw holes, a first fastener extends through the bone plate and into an underlying bone or bone fragment. Further, at the same screw hole, a second fastener is received to couple the accessory element to the upper surface of the bone plate to stabilize the accessory element on the bone plate. In at least an embodiment, the accessory element extending over a perimeter of the bone plate and into contact with the bone.

Orthopedic fixation screw with bioresorbable layer

The device has a body with holes to accept the bone screws. The bone screws have a layer of bioresorbable material on a surface portion of the head of the screw contiguous with the shaft. Engagement between the bone screws and the body is initially through the bioresorbable material, which engagement rigidly fixes the relative angular orientation between the bone screws and the body when the device is applied to a bone. As the bioresrobable material is resorbed the angular relation between the bone screws and the body is no longer rigidly fixed, thereby effecting a transformation from rigid osteosynthesis to flexible osteosynthesis to allow micromotion between the bone fragments which promotes healing.

Polyaxial locking assembly

A locking mechanism for a polyaxial locking screw is provided, together with a polyaxial locking assembly for locking a receiving member to a substrate. Also provided is a plating system for pelvic reconstruction.

SPINE PLATE IMPLANT WITH CAM LOCK BONE SCREW RETENTION
20220218398 · 2022-07-14 ·

A spine plate implant utilizes cam lock setscrews to retain bone screws in the plate once implanted. A cam lock setscrew is received in a setscrew pocket adjacent a configured bone screw bore of the plate and is configured to allow a bone screw to be received in the plate when in an unlocked rotational position, and to retain the received bone screw when in a locked rotational position. The bone screw may include a tang that allows engagement with external teeth of the cam lock setscrew when the cam lock setscrew is rotated into the locked position. Once the cam lock setscrew is in the locked position, the bone screw is inhibited from backing out of the bone screw bore. When the cam lock setscrew is in the unlocked position, a flat of the cam lock setscrew is adjacent the bone screw tang so the bone screw may be removed.

Device to be implanted in human or animal tissue and method for implanting and assembling the device

An implant or endoprosthesis suitable to be implanted in human or animal tissue includes two (or more than two) parts to be joined in situ. Each one of the parts includes a joining location, the two joining locations facing each other when the device parts are positioned for being joined together, wherein one of the joining locations includes a material which is liquefiable by mechanical vibration and the other one of the joining locations includes a material which is not liquefiable by mechanical vibration and a structure (e.g. undercut cavities or protrusions) suitable for forming a positive fit connection with the liquefiable material. The joining process is effected by pressing the two device parts against each other and by applying ultrasonic vibration to one of the device parts when the two parts are positioned relative to each other such that the two joining locations are in contact with each other.
