Spinal implant system and methods of use
A spinal implant includes an intermediate portion and a first portion extending in a transverse orientation from the intermediate portion. The first portion includes an inner surface connectable with vertebral tissue adjacent a lamina. A second portion is spaced from the first portion and extends in a transverse orientation from the intermediate portion. The second portion includes an inner surface connectable with vertebral tissue adjacent a lamina. At least one of the first portion and the second portion includes an outer surface having a mating element engageable with a mating element of a surgical instrument. Systems, surgical instruments and methods are disclosed.
Method and apparatus for spinal stabilization
A method and apparatus of limiting at least one degree of movement between a superior vertebrae and an inferior vertebrae of a patient includes advancing a distal end of a stabilization device into a pedicle of the inferior vertebrae. A proximal portion of the stabilization device is positioned such that the proximal portion limits at least one degree of movement between a superior vertebrae and an inferior vertebrae by contacting a surface of the superior vertebrae.
Connecting end effectors to surgical devices
A surgical fastener applying device for releasable connection to an end effector is provided. The surgical fastener applying device includes an elongated body portion having an outer tube and an inner shaft assembly. The inner shaft assembly defines a non-circular bore in a distal end thereof. The inner shaft assembly is longitudinally movable through the outer tube. The outer tube and the inner shaft assembly define corresponding openings extending radially therethrough. The surgical fastener applying device includes a detent movable within the openings of the elongated body portion. The detent floats between the end effector and the elongated body portion to enable selective connection between the end effector and the elongated body portion.
Guide tools for installation of fixation devices
Guide tools for installation of fixation devices. At least one example embodiment includes: a delivery tube, the delivery tube defines a slot that runs from the distal end to the proximal end; a guide tube coupled to the delivery tube; and a handle coupled to the proximal end of the delivery tube and coupled to the proximal end of the guide tube. The handle may include a first channel into an interior of the delivery tube through the slot, and a receptacle in operational relationship to the delivery tube and the first channel.
Fixation device
A fixation device. At least one example embodiment is a bone anchor comprising: a proximal head; a bollard coupled to the proximal head; a first barb coupled to the bollard, the first barb extends outward a first distance measured perpendicularly from an anchor central axis, the first distance greater than half the transverse dimension of the bollard, and the first barb extends outward at a first radial from the anchor central axis; and a second barb coupled to the first barb, the second barb extends outward a second distance measured perpendicularly from the anchor central axis, the second distance greater than half the transverse dimension of the bollard, and the second barb extends outward at a second radial from the anchor central axis, the second radial at a second rotational orientation at least 36 angular degrees from the first radial.
Sterilizable disposable surgical instrument for bone fusion surgery
A sterilizable disposable surgical instrument is formed by an implant for bone fusion as well as an implant sleeve surrounding the implant for bone fusion. The implant has a distal implant section, a proximal implant section, and a coupling section with a polygonal cross-section profile between the distal and proximal implant section. The implant sleeve has a protective cap and a handle, which can be connected to one another. A first bore is configured in the protective cap in the longitudinal direction and receives the proximal implant section of the implant. A second bore is configured in the handle running in the longitudinal direction and receives the distal implant section of the implant for bone fusion. A coupling region having a through-opening is configured in the second bore in the handle, into which the coupling section of the implant for bone fusion engages in an integral and force-locking manner.
Stand-alone fusion implant secured by in-line fixation
Stand alone fusion cage assemblies that can be secured to the adjacent vertebral bodies via an in-line approach that is substantially perpendicular to the anterior wall of the stand alone cage (or substantially parallel to the cage insertion direction).
System and method for attaching a surgical instrument to a patient's bone
A surgical instrument system and method of use is disclosed. The system includes a bone fixation pin and a surgical instrument configured for use with the bone fixation pin. The surgical instrument includes a sheath extending over the distal end of an elongated shaft and a locking mechanism operable to permit selectively movement of the elongated shaft along the longitudinal axis relative to the sheath.
Orthopedic Break-Off Screws, Tools For Inserting Such Screws, And Related Systems And Methods
A system for inserting an anchor member into bone includes a receiving member and an anchor member receivable within the receiving member. The receiving member is elongate along a longitudinal axis and has a proximal end and a distal end spaced from the proximal end along the longitudinal axis. The receiving member has an internal surface that defines a transmission element. The anchor member includes an engagement element configured to rotatably engage the transmission element such that the transmission element is configured to drive the anchor member in a distal direction relative to the transmission element so as to rotatably decouple the engagement element from the transmission element. The distal direction extends from the proximal end to the distal end of the receiving member and is parallel with the longitudinal axis.
