Multi-functional tissue manipulation medical device and related methods of use
A multi-functional medical device including a sheath having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The medical device further includes an end-effector slidably disposed within the lumen. A portion of the end-effector may be configured to transition between a collapsed state while in the lumen and an expanded state while out of the lumen. Further, the end-effector may include a tool configured to dissect tissue, and a retracting member having a plurality of legs disposed about the tool.
Lesion resection method
A lesion resection method includes a marking step of forming a three-dimensional marking in peripheral tissues of a lesion; a grasping step of grasping the lesion by a grasping forceps; a retracing step of pulling the marking to a hand side of a staple ejection position of a stapler by pulling the grasping forceps grasping the lesion; a ligating step of ejecting a staple from the stapler to ligate the peripheral tissues of the lesion; and a resecting step of resecting the lesion.
DISSECTION SCISSORS ON SURGICAL DEVICE
A surgical instrument includes an end effector and a housing mechanically coupled to the end effector. The end effector includes a first actuating device configured to perform a first surgical procedure and a second actuating device integrally associated with the first actuating device and configured to perform a second surgical procedure, the second surgical procedure being independently operable and different than the first surgical procedure. An outer portion of the first actuating device and an outer portion of the second actuating device form a portion of an outer housing of the end effector. The housing includes a first actuator, mechanically coupled to the first actuating device and configured to impart movement to the first actuating device and a second actuator, mechanically coupled to the second actuating device and configured to impart movement to the second actuating device.
ELECTROSURGERY PROBES WITH SMOKE AND LIQUID EVACUATION
An electrosurgery system and method of practicing electrosurgery are provided, which incorporate the use of an electrosurgery probe. The electrosurgery probe an electrosurgery probe includes an electrically-conductive element comprised of a surgical tool tip segment, a mid-segment, and an electrical contact segment. The mid-segment includes a hollow, unobstructed tube having a wall and an interior flow passage, an open distal end and a closed proximal end. The mid-segment is coupled directly to the surgical tool tip segment and to the electrical contact segment. An opening is formed in the mid-segment which is in fluid communication with the interior flow passage. The surgical tool tip segment, the mid-segment and the electrical contact segment are all comprised of at least one electrically-conductive material.
MEDICAL DEVICE AND RELATED METHODS
Exemplary medical devices may include a snare device. The snare device may include a first leg having a proximalmost end and a second leg having a proximalmost end. The first leg and the second leg may form a distal loop. The proximalmost end of first leg may be independently moveable relative to the proximalmost end of the second leg.
TISSUE RESECTION SNARES
A tissue resection device for resecting tissue from a target site within a patient's body. The device includes an elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. An actuation member extends partially through the shaft, and reciprocates within the shaft between a retracted position and an extended position. Multiple snare wires extend through the actuation member, and emerge outwards from a distal portion of the actuation member. The snare wires cooperate and join to form a snare loop, which engages the tissue intended to be resected. The snare loop is configured to enhance friction while engaging the tissue, to resect the tissue.
Resection device with support mechanism and related methods of use
A medical device for resecting tissue. The medical device is slidably disposed within a working channel of an elongate introduction sheath. The medical device includes an elongate shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween. The distal end of the elongate shaft may include an opening in communication with the lumen. In addition, the medical device includes a support structure having a slot extending along an inner surface of the support structure in communication with the lumen of the elongate shaft. The medical device further includes a snare loop having a first position disposed within the slot of the support structure, and a second position disposed within the lumen of the elongate shaft. An actuation member is slidably disposed within the lumen of the elongate shaft and is connected to the snare loop.
System and method of controlling power delivery to a surgical instrument
A thermal surgical instrument having a system to control the delivery of power from an energy source to active element located on a tip. The system for controlling delivery to the tip may include a control algorithm which uses one or more measurements, such as tip current, SWR, and rapid changes in reflected power, to manage power without affecting cutting efficacy, and in a manner that may be imperceptible by a surgeon. The system may utilize a state machine to determine the current environment in which the tip may be in. Power delivered to the tip may be selectively managed according to a fixed power index or a repeatedly executed power profile.
SURGICAL SNARE WITH ABILITY TO DELIVER ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY AND/OR THERMAL PLASMA INTO BIOLOGICAL TISSUE
A surgical snare comprising a means of delivering thermal plasma on to biological tissue encircled by the snare. The snare may be cold snare, i.e. formed from insulating material, or active, i.e. connected to receive RF and/or microwave energy to be radiated into the area encircled by the snare. The surgical snare may thus deliver into biological tissue encircled by a retractable loop any one of (i) a plasma to perform surface coagulation, (ii) a non-ionising microwave field (in the absence of plasma) to perform coagulation at a deeper level, and (iii) an RF field to assist with cutting.
TISSUE SAMPLING DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Methods, devices, and systems are described herein that allow for improved sampling of tissue from remote sites in the body. A tissue sampling device comprises a handle allowing single hand operation. In one variation the tissue sampling device includes a blood vessel scanning means and tissue coring means to excise a histology sample from a target site free of blood vessels. The sampling device also includes an adjustable stop to control the depth of needle penetration. The sampling device may be used through a working channel of a bronchoscope.
