In another aspect, a surgical instrument includes a pin, an electrically conductive connector including a contact portion and an attachment, the contact portion surrounding the pin. An electrical conduit is electrically coupled to the attachment of the connector. An electrically conductive jaw including an aperture is pivotable around the contact portion, and the contact portion electrically contacts the jaw at the aperture of the jaw.

An electrosurgical device comprises a body, an end effector, a cutting member, and a shaft. The end effector includes a pair of jaws that are operable to deliver RF energy to tissue that is clamped between the jaws. The cutting member is operable to sever tissue that is clamped between the jaws. The shaft extends between the body and the end effector. The shaft includes an articulation section that is operable to selectively position the end effector at non-parallel positions relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Some versions include a rotation section that is distal to the articulation section. The rotation section is operable to rotate the end effector relative to the articulation section.

The electrically insulative member is sized and configured to engage tissue and the second electrically conductive member sized and configured to define a minimum distance between the first and second electrodes.

AN ENDOSURGICAL DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE

An endosurgical device is provided. The endosurgical device comprises a flexible tube having at least two lengthwise extending channels, an end effector comprising two opposite jaws having opposite cutting edges, an effector sleeve that surrounds the tube at least at the distal tube end, and means for reciprocating the end effector axially in relation to the effector sleeve to close the jaws when the effector sleeve is moved forward and backwards to close and open the jaws, respectively. The exterior face of the opposite jaws is electrically insulated, and an electrical cord for providing current to the end effector extends inside one of the lengthwise extending channels of the tube. The endosurgical device may allow the surgeon to take several tissue specimens from an organ and to perform several functionalities when the device is inside the organ.

There is provided a medical high frequency treatment device (200). A distal portion of the high frequency treatment device (200) includes a high frequency treatment device knife (100) having a pair of scissors (10) so as to incise a biological tissue. The pair of scissors (10) is configured to be capable of shearing the biological tissue by pivoting in a direction closer to each other. Each of the pair of scissors (10) has a blade surface (13). Each surface of the pair of scissors (10) includes a formation region of a non-conductive layer (insulating film (12)) and an electrode region (19) where the non-conductive layer is not formed on the surface of the blade surface (13). With regard to at least one of the pair of scissors (10), a width dimension of the electrode region (19) in a plate thickness direction of the scissors (10) varies depending on a position of the scissors (10) in a longitudinal direction.

The surgical instrument including a battery, a user input sensor, a controller, a radio frequency (RF) drive circuit, an ultrasonic transducer, ultrasonic transducer drive circuit, and an end effector. The end effector including an electrode electrically coupled to RF drive circuit, an ultrasonic blade acoustically coupled to the ultrasonic transducer, and a sensor to measure tissue parameters. The method includes applying an RF current drive signal to the electrode by the RF drive circuit; applying an ultrasonic drive signal to the ultrasonic transducer by the ultrasonic transducer drive circuit to acoustically excite the ultrasonic blade; controlling intensity, wave shape, and/or frequency of the RF current drive signal and the ultrasonic drive signal on a sensed measure of a tissue or user parameter.

The handle assembly comprises a proximal portion of the flexible circuit and the shaft assembly comprises a distal portion of the flexible circuit; the shaft assembly further comprising: an exterior shaft positioned around the distal portion of the flexible circuit and configured to change position while a sub-portion of the distal portion of the flexible circuit remains stationary; and shaft control electronics comprising a stationary portion and a non-stationary portion, the stationary portion coupled to the distal portion of the flexible circuit and the non-stationary portion coupled to the exterior shaft; wherein the stationary portion of the shaft control electronics is configured to measure a distance to the non-stationary portion of the shaft control electronics as the exterior shaft changes position.
