An end effector such as a pair of opposing jaws for grasping tissue may be disposed at the distal end of the two arms. At the proximal end of each arm is a finger loop, or some other suitable means for holding by the handle, which are used to actuate the arms between the open and closed position. At least one of the finger loops is arranged to pivot about the longitudinal axis of the arm from which it extends, for example, the finger loop may be connected to the arm by a hinged connection, or any other suitable connection for enabling the finger loop to be pivotably rotated.

A forceps includes a pair of jaw members movable relative to one another, one of the jaw members defining a blade channel therein configured to house a cutting mechanism. The cutting mechanism includes: a blade having camming slots defined along a length thereof and one or more blade springs operably associated therewith configured to bias the blade within the blade channel; and a blade cam including camming surfaces configured to operably engage the corresponding camming slots of the blade. The blade cam includes a proximal end operably coupled to an actuation rod configured to move the blade cam upon movement thereof. The actuation rod, upon movement thereof, moves the camming surfaces of the blade cam into engagement against the camming slots forcing the blade into the blade channel against the bias of the biasing spring to cut tissue therebetween.

A knife limit for a surgical instrument includes a housing having a shaft extending therefrom configured to support an end effector at a distal end thereof, the end effector including first and second jaw members. One or both of the jaw members including a knife channel defined therein and extending therealong to a distal portion thereof. A knife assembly is disposed within the housing and cooperates with a trigger to translate a knife within the knife channel to the distal portion of the jaw member upon actuation thereof. A knife limit button is disposed within the housing and is configured to limit the distal translation of the knife within the knife channel upon selective actuation thereof. The knife limit button is movable between a first position allowing full translation of the knife within the knife channel and a second position limiting distal translation of the knife within the knife channel.

Electrosurgical device with disposable shaft having modular subassembly

An apparatus comprises an end effector, a shaft assembly, and an interface assembly. The end effector is operable to manipulate tissue, the shaft assembly is in communication with the end effector and a portion of the shaft assembly extends proximally from the end effector. The interface assembly is in communication with the shaft assembly. The interface assembly comprises a housing portion, a shaft cartridge, and a base portion. The housing portion can engage the shaft cartridge. The shaft cartridge is able to rotate and articulate the end effector, and the shaft assembly extends from the shaft cartridge. The base portion and the housing portion are able to enclose the shaft cartridge.

Controlling impedance rise in electrosurgical medical devices

Various embodiments are directed to an electrosurgical system including an end effector, a jaw closure trigger, and a control circuit. The end effector includes a first jaw and a second jaw. The control circuit is configured to receive an input indicating a repeat mode, apply a first tissue bite algorithm to a first electrode and a second electrode based on an occurrence of a first tissue bite, enter a hold state at a termination of the first tissue bite algorithm, and determine an occurrence of a second tissue bite. The first tissue bite is based on the second jaw moving toward a closed configuration via the jaw closure trigger. Entering the hold state includes maintaining a sub-therapeutic signal. Determining the occurrence of the second tissue bite includes sensing a reduction in impedance between the first electrode and the second electrode via the sub-therapeutic signal.

MEDICAL INTERVENTION DEVICE WITH VERSATILE HANDLE

A medical intervention device may include a distal end comprising a pair of jaws and a handle operably coupled to the distal end. The handle may include a pair of pivoting finger arms each having at least one finger loop, the pivoting finger arms being configured for opening and closing the pair of jaws at the distal end.
