Surgical clip applier configured to store clips in a stored state
Surgical clip appliers are disclosed comprising a plurality of clips which are stored in a compressed state. When a stored clip is moved into the crimping chamber of the surgical clip applier, the clip can assume a configuration which is different than its stored configuration before it is crimped.
Electrosurgical forceps for grasping, treating, and/or dividing tissue
An electrosurgical forceps includes a first shaft member including a first inner frame. A first jaw member extends distally from the first inner frame. A first outer housing is supported by the first inner frame. The first inner frame includes a first member stamped from sheet metal. A second shaft member includes a second inner frame. A second jaw member extends distally from the second inner frame. A second outer housing is supported by the second inner frame. The second inner frame includes a second member stamped from sheet metal and a rigid filler member disposed on the second member.
Coagulation and dissecting instrument with improved control
The coagulation arrangement (10) according to the invention comprises an instrument (11) having a tool (17) comprising coagulating electrodes (22, 23, 27, 28), as well as a dissecting electrode (36). The electrodes are powered by a circuit (44) that comprises a coagulating voltage source (54) and a dissecting voltage source (55), or that can be connected to such sources. The device comprises a dissection actuating switch (60) and a coagulation actuating switch (59). The former is connected to a power switch (58) that—in dissecting mode—connects the current path from the dissecting voltage source (55) to the dissecting electrode (36), before the dissecting voltage source (55) or the HF output voltage source (47) and the coagulating voltage source (54) are actuated. Thus, the user is presented with a reliable means in a simple manner in order to be able to more flexibly perform more complex operations.
Bipolar surgical instrument
A bipolar forceps includes a mechanical forceps including first and second shafts each having a jaw member extending from a distal end thereof and a handle disposed at a proximal end thereof for effecting movement of the jaw members relative to one another about a pivot. A disposable housing is configured to releasably couple to at least one of the shafts and an electrode assembly has electrodes releasably coupleable to the jaw members and adapted to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy to allow selective conduction of electrosurgical energy through tissue held therebetween to effect a tissue seal. An electrically conductive cutting element is disposed on at least one of the electrodes and is adapted to connect to the source of electrosurgical energy to allow selective conduction of electrosurgical energy through tissue held between the electrodes to effect a tissue cut.
MEDICAL TREATMENT TOOL
A medical treatment tool includes: a grasping portion having a first jaw and a second jaw; a plate-shaped blade that is provided in the first jaw and that has a thickness direction; a heater that supplies, to the first blade, thermal energy for treating a tissue grasped by the grasping portion; an energy insulating member that is arranged such that only an output surface of the blade, which comes into contact with the tissue, is exposed and that blocks leakage of the thermal energy to an outside of the first jaw; and first wiring that supplies electrical energy to the heater, wherein the blade, the heater, and the first wiring are arranged so as to be laminated in the thickness direction, and an area of a supply surface where the heater supplies the thermal energy to the blade is larger than an area of the output surface.
TREATMENT INSTRUMENT AND TREATMENT SYSTEM
A treatment instrument includes first and second treatment bodies. The second treatment body includes a contact portion and a first surface. The first surface is adjacent to the contact portion in a width direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis. The first surface includes a proximity edge which is in proximity to the contact portion; and an outer edge spaced from the contact portion from the longitudinal axis toward a side surface of a treatment portion in the width direction. Assuming that a virtual plane is defined to be perpendicular to the opening and closing directions in the closed state and passing through the proximity edge of the first surface, a distance between the outer edge and the virtual plane is larger than a distance between the proximity edge and the virtual plane.
Surgical instrument systems comprising feedback mechanisms
A surgical instrument system comprising a handle assembly is disclosed. The handle assembly comprises an actuation trigger comprising a curved proximal portion and a curved cylinder surrounding the curved proximal portion of the actuation trigger. The curved cylinder comprises an electroactive polymer. The surgical instrument system comprises an actuation rod which is configured to transmit an actuation force and a sensor system which is configured to detect the magnitude of the actuation force. The electroactive polymer is responsive to the actuation force and provides feedback to a user of the surgical instrument system.
Bipolar electrosurgical hand shears
An apparatus comprises a first jaw, a second jaw, a first handle, and a second handle. The second jaw is pivotally coupled with the first jaw. The first jaw and the second jaw are configured to grasp tissue. The jaws provide offset electrode surfaces that are operable to deliver bipolar RF energy to tissue grasped between the jaws. The apparatus is further operable to sever tissue. A lockout feature selectively prevents tissue severing, based on an energization state of the jaws.
SURGICAL MULTI-TOOL AND METHOD OF USE
Surgical tool are disclosed that include a first tip and a second tip. The first tip and the second tip can have a first configuration, an intermediate configuration, and a second configuration. In the first configuration the tool operates as forceps and in the second configuration the tool operates as scissors. In the intermediate configuration the tool operates as a probe. The tips can be brought together to transition between the first configuration and the intermediate configuration. The tips can be rotated to transition between the intermediate configuration and the second configuration. Method are disclosed that include the step of providing a tool having a first tip extending distally and a second tip extending distally, moving at least one of the first tip and the second tip toward the other of the first tip and the second tip, and rotating the first tip and the second tip.
Combination ultrasonic and electrosurgical instrument having slip ring electrical contact assembly
A surgical instrument includes a body, a shaft assembly rotatable relative to the body, and an end effector at a distal end of the shaft assembly and having an RF electrode operable to seal tissue with RF energy. An electrical contact assembly is arranged proximally of the end effector and is configured to electrically couple the RF electrode with an RF energy source.
