INTRAOCULAR LENS WITH FOCAL PERFORMANCE TAILORED TO PUPIL SIZE DEPLOYING REFRACTIVE POWER MODIFICATION ALONG SPIRAL TRACKS
A new family of intraocular lenses that exhibit an extended depth of focus or a tailored multifocality where the lenses are designed by the combination of a base lens topology and additional refractive power range described along a spiral-like grid. The variety of parameters confer a great versatility to the lens design, which allows the achievement of the best suitable features to attend to a wide range of visual demands in performing different activities. It is possible to set the parameters to specify apt-focal lenses that account for optical performance changes due to pupil aperture variations, as well as to counter positive dysphotopic effects.
MULTI-PIECE ACCOMMODATING INTRAOCULAR LENS
An accommodating intraocular lens (AIOL) for implantation within a capsular bag of a patient's eye comprises first and second components coupled together to define an inner fluid chamber and an outer fluid reservoir. The inner region of the AIOL provides optical power with one or more of the shaped fluid within the inner fluid chamber or the shape of the first or second components. The fluid reservoir comprises a bellows region with fold(s) extending circumferentially around an optical axis of the eye. The bellows engages the lens capsule, and a compliant fold region between inner and outer bellows portions allows the profile of the AIOL to deflect when the eye accommodates for near vision. Fluid transfers between the inner fluid chamber and the outer fluid reservoir to provide optical power changes. A third lens component coupled to the first or second component provides additional optical power.
OPHTHALMIC LENS
An ophthalmic lens has a cross-sectional shape in an arbitrary meridian direction on a lens surface of the ophthalmic lens. The cross-sectional shape is expressed by the following formula (1),
In the formula, c is a paraxial curvature of the ophthalmic lens, r is a distance from a lens center of the ophthalmic lens, k is a conic constant of a surface which is in rotation symmetry with respect to an optical axis of the lens in the ophthalmic lens. The variables c, r and k are used in common in the meridian direction on the lens surface, and A(θ) and B(θ) are parameters expressed by functions depending on an angle in the meridian direction.
INTRAOCULAR LENS, METHOD FOR DESIGNING THE SAME, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
Provided is an intraocular lens including a lens body having a back surface disposed on a retinal side and a front surface disposed on a corneal side, wherein an entire back surface is shaped in such a way as to protrude from a peripheral edge of the back surface toward the retinal side in a direction of an optical axis, in a shape of a truncated cone, and the front surface has any of the following shapes (i) to (iii); (i) the front surface is shaped in such a way as to start to be recessed toward the retinal side in the direction of the optical axis when viewed toward a center from a peripheral edge of the front surface, (ii) the front surface is shaped in such a way that an initial part from the peripheral edge of the front surface toward the center is flat, (iii) the front surface is shaped in such a way as to start to protrude toward the corneal side in the direction of the optical axis when viewed toward the center from the peripheral edge of the front surface, but a rate of rise of a protrusion from the peripheral edge of the front surface is smaller than a rate of rise of a protrusion from the peripheral edge of the back surface.
HIGH DEFINITION AND EXTENDED DEPTH OF FIELD INTRAOCULAR LENS
Disclosed are systems, devices, and methods that overcome limitations of lOLs at least by providing a phakic or aphakic IOL that provides correction of defocus and astigmatism, decreases higher-order monochromatic and chromatic aberrations, and provides an extended depth of field to improve vision quality. The IOL includes a virtual aperture integrated into the IOL. The construction and arrangement permit optical rays which intersect the virtual aperture and are widely scattered across the retina, causing the light to be virtually prevented from reaching detectable levels on the retina. The virtual aperture helps remove monochromatic and chromatic aberrations, yielding high-definition retinal images. For a given definition of acceptable vision, the depth of field is increased over a larger diameter optical zone IOL.
Ophthalmic apparatus with corrective meridians having extended tolerance band by modifying refractive powers in uniform meridian distribution
The embodiments disclosed herein include improved toric lenses and other ophthalmic apparatuses (including, for example, contact lens, intraocular lenses (IOLs), and the like) and associated method for their design and use. The apparatus includes one or more optical zones, including an optical zone defined by a polynomial-based surface coincident at a plurality of meridians having distinct cylinder powers, wherein light incident to a given region of each of the plurality of meridians, and respective regions nearby, is directed to a given point of focus such that the regions nearby to the given region direct light to the given point of focus when the given meridian is rotationally offset from the given region, thereby establishing an extended band of operation, and wherein each of the plurality of meridians is uniformly arranged on the optical zone for a same given added power (in diopters) up to 1.0D (diopters).
INTRAOCULAR LENS
An intraocular lens comprising an optic and four haptics extending from the optic, each haptic having a proximal end meeting with the optic at differing points about a periphery of the optic. The four haptics are arranged into a first pair comprising two arcuate haptics with curvature orientated toward each other such that a distal end of each of the two haptics of the first pair are in nearer relation than their proximal ends; and, a second pair comprising two arcuate haptics with curvature orientated toward each other such that a distal end of each of the two haptics of the second pair are in nearer relation than their proximal end.
Ophthalmic apparatus with corrective meridians having extended tolerance band
The embodiments disclosed herein include improved toric lenses and other ophthalmic apparatuses (including, for example, contact lens, intraocular lenses (IOLs), and the like) and associated method for their design and use. In an embodiment, an ophthalmic apparatus (e.g., a toric lens) includes one or more angularly-varying phase members comprising a diffractive or refractive structure, each varying the depths of focus of the apparatus so as to provide an extended tolerance to misalignment of the apparatus when implanted in an eye. That is, the ophthalmic apparatus establishes an extended band of operational meridian over the intended correction meridian.
SELECTION OF TORIC INTRAOCULAR LENSES
Various embodiments of selection of a toric intraocular lens (tIOL) for use in correcting an astigmatism using are disclosed. One of an overcorrecting tIOL and an undercorrecting tIOL may be selected based on, among other things, an estimated misalignment. The estimated misalignment may include all contributions to misalignment of a tIOL when implanted.
