HIGH DEFINITION AND EXTENDED DEPTH OF FIELD INTRAOCULAR LENS
20210298893 · 2021-09-30 ·

A virtual aperture integrated into an intraocular lens is disclosed. Optical rays which intersect the virtual aperture are widely scattered across the retina causing the light to be virtually prevented from reaching detectable levels on the retina. The use of the virtual aperture helps remove monochromatic and chromatic aberrations yielding high-definition retinal images. For a given definition of acceptable vision, the depth of field is increased over a larger diameter optical zone. In addition, thinner intraocular lenses can be produced since the optical zone can have a smaller diameter. This in turn allows smaller corneal incisions and easier implantation surgery.

Apparatuses, systems and methods for providing improved ophthalmic lenses, particularly intraocular lenses (IOLs), include features for reducing dysphotopsia effects, such as haloes and glare, in extended range of vision lenses. Exemplary ophthalmic lenses can include an optic including a first surface and a second surface each disposed about an optical axis and extending radially outward from the optical axis to an outer periphery of the optic. A diffractive profile including a plurality of echelettes is disposed on the first surface such that no echelette on the first surface repeats between the optical axis and the outer periphery of the optic.

An intraocular lens configured to reduce or eliminate oblique incident light photic disturbances in the eye, said lens comprising anterior and posterior surfaces defining a central lens optic extending from said anterior to said posterior surfaces and a peripheral portion outside of the central lens optic, wherein the peripheral portion is a prismatic lens which redirects oblique incident light on the peripheral portion forward of the nasal retina in the eye and onto the ciliary body/pars plana region.

A method and system provide a multifocal ophthalmic device. The ophthalmic lens has an anterior surface, a posterior surface and at least one diffractive structure including a plurality of echelettes. The echelettes have at least one step height of at least one wavelength and not more than two wavelengths in optical path length. The diffractive structure(s) reside on at least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface. The diffractive structure(s) provide a plurality of focal lengths for the ophthalmic lens.

COMPOSITE LIGHT ADJUSTABLE INTRAOCULAR LENS WITH DIFFRACTIVE STRUCTURE

A composite light adjustable intraocular lens comprises an acrylic diffractive intraocular lens, having a diffractive structure and haptics; and a silicone light adjustable lens, attached to the acrylic diffractive intraocular lens. The diffractive structure produces constructive interference in at least four consecutive diffractive orders corresponding a range of vision between near and distance vision, wherein the constructive interference produces a near focal point, a distance focal point corresponding to the base power of the ophthalmic lens, and an intermediate focal point between the near focal point and the distance focal point and wherein a diffraction efficiency of at least one of the diffractive orders is suppressed to less than ten percent.

INTRAOCULAR LENS SYSTEM

An intraocular lens system comprising at least one intraocular lens having an anterior surface and a posterior surface, wherein at least one surface of the lens is aspherical to provide for a continuum of retinal images to be focused at the retina in an area between two retinal eccentricities. The system may include an anterior light-converging intraocular lens 16 for positioning within the eye, the anterior lens having an anterior surface and a posterior surface; and a posterior light-diverging intraocular lens 17 for positioning within the eye posterior to the anterior lens, the posterior lens having an anterior surface and a posterior surface; wherein one or both surfaces of the anterior lens and/or one or both surfaces of the posterior lens are aspherical.

INTRAOCULAR LENSES

This document describes intraocular lenses and methods for their use. For example, this document describes intraocular lenses that are shaped with a concave posterior peripheral portion that mitigates occurrences of dysphotopsia. The intraocular lenses described herein are designed to reduce positive and negative dysphotopsias after cataract surgery.

Apparatuses, systems and methods for providing improved ophthalmic lenses, particularly intraocular lenses (IOLs), include features for providing improved extended depth of focus lenses. Exemplary ophthalmic lenses can include an optic including a diffractive profile including at least one set of echelettes, each echelette of the set having a different width in r-squared space than any other echelette of the set and the at least one set of echelettes repeating at least once upon the optic.
