Enhanced cage insertion assembly
A method of delivering a fusion cage to an intervertebral disc space bounded by adjacent vertebral endplates, comprising the step of delivering the fusion cage into the disc space without contacting its teeth to the vertebral endplates during delivery, wherein a sheath is interposed between a cage surface and the endplates to prevent contact therebetween during delivery.
Porous composite biomaterials and related methods
Synthetic composite materials for use, for example, as orthopedic implants are described herein. In one example, a composite material for use as a scaffold includes a thermoplastic polymer forming a porous matrix that has continuous porosity and a plurality of pores. The porosity and the size of the pores are selectively formed during synthesis of the composite material. The example composite material also includes a plurality of a anisometric calcium phosphate particles integrally formed, embedded in, or exposed on a surface of the porous matrix. The calcium phosphate particles provide one or more of reinforcement, bioactivity, or bioresorption.
Implantable medical devices
Implantable medical devices are provided. In one embodiment, a device includes a body having an external surface defining an outer profile of the device. The body includes a porous matrix including a series of interconnected macropores defined by a plurality of interconnected struts each including a hollow interior. A filler material substantially fills at least a portion of the series of interconnected macropores. The external surface of the body includes a plurality of openings communicating with the hollow interior of at least a portion of the plurality of interconnected struts. In a further aspect of this embodiment, the external surface includes exposed areas of the filler material and porous matrix in addition to the exposed openings. In another aspect, the porous matrix is formed from a bioresorbable ceramic and the filler material is a biologically stable polymeric material. Still, other aspects related to this and other embodiments are also disclosed.
Joint Spacers
An apparatus including a joint spacer for treatment of a joint of a human subject. The joint spacer includes a bioresorbable stent having compressed and expanded configurations and a covering that covers an external surface of the stent. The joint spacer is configured to be inserted into a space of the joint, and is shaped, when the bioresorbable stent is in the expanded configuration, to provide mechanical support to the joint until the bioresorbable stent resorbs into a body of the subject. Treating a joint of a human subject includes inserting a joint spacer into a space of the joint while a bioresorbable stent of the joint spacer is in a compressed configuration, and transitioning the bioresorbable stent to an expanded configuration within the joint, such that the joint spacer provides mechanical support to the joint until the bioresorbable stent resorbs into a body of the subject.

GENDER SPECIFIC PHARMACEUTICALS
The present disclosure provides a system of gender specific pharmaceuticals. The system includes a first package of a pharmaceutical for use by a male and a second package of a pharmaceutical for use by a female. The first package includes a pharmaceutical for use by a male and a first label coupled to the first package, wherein at least one of the first package and first label includes a male specifier and a recommended male dosage. The second package includes a pharmaceutical for use by a female and a second label coupled to the second package, wherein at least one of the second package and second label includes a female specifier and a recommended female dosage.
IMPLANTABLE DEVICES
Implantable devices for orthopedic, including spine and other uses are formed of porous reinforced polymer scaffolds. Scaffolds include a thermoplastic polymer forming a porous matrix that has continuously interconnected pores. The porosity and the size of the pores within the scaffold are selectively formed during synthesis of the composite material, and the composite material includes a plurality of reinforcement particles integrally formed within and embedded in the matrix and exposed on the pore surfaces. The reinforcement particles provide one or more of reinforcement, bioactivity, or bioresorption.
MINERAL COATED SCAFFOLDS
Provided is a composition for a scaffold having a mineral coating similar to bone. Also provided is a method for mineral coating a scaffold so as to promote mineral coating of the scaffold with a plate-like nanostructure and a carbonate-substituted, calcium-deficient hydroxyapatite phase.
