SURGICAL INSTRUMENT FOR IMPLANTING A SEMI-RIGID MEDICAL IMPLANT
A surgical instrument for implanting a semi-rigid medical implant. The surgical instrument includes a shaft, an accessory shaft, an actuation mechanism and an implant engagement mechanism. The shaft has a channel formed therein. The shaft has a proximal end and a distal end. The accessory shaft is slidably mounted in the channel. The accessory shaft has a proximal end and a distal end. The actuation mechanism is mounted to the shaft proximate the proximal end thereof. The actuation mechanism is capable of causing the accessory shaft to slide with respect to the shaft. The implant engagement mechanism is attached to the distal end of the accessory shaft. The implant engagement mechanism is capable of engaging a semi-rigid surgical implant.
Integrated Spring for Soft Tissue Attachment
In one embodiment of the disclosure, a prosthetic bone implant includes a prosthesis and a tissue attachment structure connected to the prosthesis. The tissue attachment structure includes a connective structure connected to the prosthesis and an interface structure connected to the connective structure. The interface structure is configured for attachment of tissue thereto. When the interface structure is subject to tension, the connective structure changes in shape.
PATCH FOR COVERING A DEFECT IN THE ANNULUS FIBROSUS OF AN INTERVERTEBRAL DISC, AND IN PARTICULAR ALSO IN THE POSTERIOR LONGITUDINAL LIGAMENT, OF A SPINE
The present invention refers to a patch for covering a defect in the annulus fibrosus of an intervertebral disc, and in particular also in the posterior longitudinal ligament, of a spine. A further aspect of the present invention refers to a surgical kit, including such a patch and at least one fastening element for fastening the patch body to the spine.
Percutaneous implantable nuclear prosthesis
An inter-vertebral disc prosthesis intended for percutaneous deployment comprises an expandable annular enclosure and an expandable nuclear enclosure. The expandable annular enclosure incorporates a reinforcing annular band along its periphery and is filled with in-situ curable rubber. The expandable nuclear enclosure is filled with a gas. The nuclear prosthesis further incorporates a novel, integrally molded sealing valve assembly and is stretchable and collapsible into a minimal profile for ease of insertion into a specially designed delivery cannula, and is inflation-assisted expandable into an inter-vertebral disc in which complete percutaneous nuclectomy has been performed.
Implant and Method for Covering Large-Scale Bone Defects for Thorax
An implant for covering a thorax bone defect includes at least one lattice structure of individual lattice cells, each lattice cell comprising one or more ring elements, with each ring element comprising a through-hole configured for receiving a fixation device. At least some of the ring elements of each lattice structure are connected via non-linear bridge elements to one another. The implant can be made, at least predominantly, from a plastic material.
Bioresorbable Inflatable Devices, Incision Tool And Methods For Tissue Expansion And Tissue Regeneration
Bioresorbable inflatable devices and tunnel incision tool and methods for treating and enlarging a tissue or an organ or a tube or a vessel or a cavity. The device is composed of a hollow expanding pouch made of a resorbable material that can be attached to a filling element. The pouch can be filled with a biocompatible materials, one or more times in few days interval, after the insertion of the device. While filling the pouch every few days the tissue expands and the filling material if it is bioactive start to function. The tunnel incision tool composed of a little blade that emerges from the surface of the tool in order to make shallow incisions in the surrounding tissue therefore enabling easy expansion of the tissue. This device and method can be used for example for: horizontal and vertical bone augmentation in the jaws and the tunnel incision tool is used to make shallow incisions in the periosteum when using the tunnel technique, sinus augmentation when the device is placed beneath the Schneiderian tissue, vessels widening if the pouch become a stent etc.
MODULAR SEGMENTED DISC NUCLEUS IMPLANT
A segmented disc nucleus replacement prosthesis and system for its implantation wherein the segments are made of a compliant, homogeneous material throughout. The prosthesis comprises a plurality of modular segments that mate together in a rail-and-slot arrangement. The rails and slots are configured to interlock and hold together under load despite being formed of compliant materials. In one embodiment, insertion tools and stabilizers are utilized for manipulation of the modular segments, the insertion tools and stabilizers being designed to accommodate for handling the compliant modular segments.
MESH FOR ENCLOSING BONE MATERIAL AND METHODS OF USE
A bone implant for enclosing bone material is provided. The bone implant comprises a mesh having one or more pores, an inner surface and an outer surface opposing the inner surface, the inner surface configured to receive a bone material when the inner surface of the mesh is in an open configuration; and a plurality of projections disposed on or in at least a portion of the inner surface of the mesh, the outer surface of the mesh or both the inner surface and outer surface of the mesh. Each of the plurality of projections have a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end contacting the inner surface of the mesh, the outer surface of the mesh or both the inner surface and outer surface of the mesh, the first end having a first surface area larger than a second surface area of the second end and larger than a surface area of the one or more pores of the mesh, the second end extending from at least the portion of the inner surface, the outer surface of the mesh or both the inner surface and outer surface of the mesh and configured to engage a section of the inner surface of the mesh or a section of the outer surface of the mesh or both sections of the inner and outer surfaces of the mesh in a closed configuration so as to enclose the bone material.
