The strength of bone implant attached to a bone is improved by using hybrid inserts which have stems and wings having bone ingrowth surface features and caps having outer surfaces of cured polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The stems and wings of the hybrid inserts are inserted into living bone and the bone implant is attached to the hybrid inserts with PMMA cement. Over time, the bone grows into the bone ingrowth surface features. The bone ingrowth strengthens the bonding of the hybrid inserts and the bone implant with the bone over time. The hybrid inserts increase the shear, tensile and torque strength of the bone implants. Bone inserts that do not have ingrowth surface features loosen over time.

The present disclosure provides intramedullary mandibular implants for the temporomandibular joint. The mandibular implants include a stem portion, a collar portion and a head portion. The stem, collar and head portions may be integral. The stem portion may define an inferior end and the head portion may define a superior end of the implants. The head portion may be arcuate in the sagittal plane to provide an articulating surface with a fossa or a fossa component. The collar portion may be intermediate of the head and stem portions and form a channel between an interior surface of the collar portion and an exterior surface of the stem portion. In use, the stem portion may be implanted within a condyle of a mandible such that an end portion of the condyle is situated within the channel of the implant and the head portion articulates with the fossa or fossa component.

A metatarsal hemi-arthroplasty implant may include a convex outer surface overlaying a concave inner surface wherein the convex outer surface is shaped to replace an articular surface of a distal end of a metatarsus. The implant may further include a stem that is configured to be inserted into an intramedullary canal of the metatarsus. The stem may extend from the concave inner surface along a longitudinal axis of the implant, and may have an outward-facing surface disposed at a first angle relative to the longitudinal axis, at least one flute extending along the length, and at least one radial groove formed in the outward-facing surface. The implant may further include a plurality of rib members distributed about the stem member to connect the stem to the inner concave surface. Each of the rib members may have a distally-facing surface disposed at a second angle relative to the longitudinal axis.

Bone fixation device

There is disclosed a bone fixation device that can include a cage having an optional mesh portion. The bone fixation device can be configured to couple a leg portion to a foot portion of a user's body. In at least one embodiment, the device includes at least one cage having a plurality of struts forming cells. There can be an optional mesh portion having a pre-set porosity that can be either constant or variable in density. In at least one embodiment there can be a cage portion which is substantially spherical shaped. Alternatively, the device can be substantially egg shaped. In at least one embodiment there can be a central post hole for receiving a post. In another embodiment at least one plate or shaft can connect to the cage.

A bone insert includes a cap having a convex top surface, an elongated stem, and a barrier between the cap and the stem. The stem of the bone insert is inserted into a hole formed in a host bone until the barrier is pressed against the exposed bone. The bone implant can be placed against a small focus contact point on the cap. Liquid cement can be injected into a space volume between the host bone and a bone implant. The cap can be made of a material and/or have surface features that create a strong bond with the cement when the liquid cement cures. The stem can be made of a material and/or have bone ingrowth surface features that create a strong bond with the bone.
