A facial treatment apparatus includes a housing, a facial treatment member mounted to the housing, and dimensioned for application to facial skin of a subject and being actuable to treat the facial skin, a visual display including a facial icon having a plurality of regions corresponding to different areas of the facial skin to be treated by the facial treatment member, an electronic timer adapted to count time associated with a treatment protocol and responsive to actuation of the facial treatment member and a controller associated with the timer and the facial icon and cooperating to visually identify a different region of the facial icon at successive predetermined time intervals of the treatment protocol.

According to one embodiment, a substrate treatment method of removing an upper end of a protrusion on a substrate is disclosed. An unevenness is formed on a surface of the substrate. The method can supply a first liquid on the surface of the substrate. The unevenness is formed on the surface. The method can form a protective layer. The protective layer covers the surface of the substrate from the first liquid supplied to the surface of the substrate. The method can supply a second liquid onto the protective layer. In addition the method can physically remove the protective layer which is on the upper end of the protrusion, and can bring the second liquid into contact with the upper end of the protrusion. The protective layer is removed from the upper end of the protrusion.

An apparatus for washing skin uses a brushless electric motor and a spring. A hand-held rotary tool includes a housing that encloses a motor having an output shaft. The tool includes a quick connect adaptor configured to connect an accessory to the output shaft. The adaptor includes a driver that is connected to the output shaft and rotates in concert with the output shaft. An outer surface of the driver has a first flat. The adaptor includes a receiver that includes a connector configured to detachably connect with the housing, and a torque transfer device configured to receive the driver. An inner surface of the torque transfer device includes a second flat that engages with the first flat in such a way that rotation of the driver results in rotation the torque transfer device relative to the connector. The adaptor includes an output device that supports the accessory and that is driven by the torque transfer device to move relative to the connector.

A face cleaning apparatus includes a brush head, a case, a transmission shaft, and an eccentric wheel module. The case has a throughhole. The transmission shaft is disposed within the case and has a shaft body having an oscillating end and a protrusion extending along an axial surface. The oscillating end is disposed axially through the throughhole and connected to the brush head. The eccentric wheel module is disposed within the case and includes a motor and an eccentric wheel rotated by the motor. The protrusion is pressed against a side of the eccentric wheel and reciprocates following rotation of the eccentric wheel such that the oscillating end is driven to oscillate with respect to the case. Therefore, the face cleaning apparatus has the advantages of low vibration, low noise, increased battery life, and simple assembly.

A personal care device that is capable of two-way communication is provided. In some embodiments, the personal care device operates in a first mode and a second mode depending on whether a signal has been received from a networked computing device, thus allowing a single human-machine interface (HMI) device to both control the personal care device and to cause signals to be sent to the networked computing device. In some embodiments, the personal care device is configured to present media streamed from the networked computing device, and/or to stream audio detected by the personal care device to the networked computing device.

A personal care system having a treatment device for applying a treatment to the skin or hair of a user is provided. The treatment device has a camera for taking an image of the skin. The system may include or be in communication with an application programming interface (API) that can process the image. The system or an associated API can recommend the use of treatment regimens or topical products according to information determined from the digital image of the skin.
