Expandable spinal fusion devices, systems, and methods of using them are provided, and they can be inserted in a subject in a collapsed state through a small surgical corridor, and the expand cephalocaudal only, transverse only, or in both directions, in which direction of expansion can also be obtained independently, if desired, after the insertion. These inventions are valuable in reducing risk and surgical complexity, allowing for an on-the-fly selection of a desirable width footprint, a desired control of height expansion through a gradual cephalocaudal expansion, and a desired control of the alignment of the adjacent vertebral bodies. Devices, systems, and methods are also offered to provide a desired control of the contact area desired between the device and the upper and lower vertebral endplates achieved, for example, using an interdigitated endplate system.

The spinal cage includes a bone support portion configured to be disposed between a first vertebra at an upper side and a second vertebra at a lower side to support the first vertebra, a base portion positioned at a lower side of the bone support portion to come in contact with the second vertebra, and a sidewall portion which has an upper side end connected to an edge of the bone support portion and a lower side end connected to an edge of the base portion and includes an elastic band having elasticity and inelastic bands having relatively lower elasticity or no elasticity. Therefore, subsidence of the spinal cage into vertebrae can be suppressed.

Knee balancing instrument

Disclosed is an instrument for balancing a knee. The instrument has a first plate (10) coupled to a second plate (50) by a plurality of adjusters (152A, 152B, 152C). The adjusters are actuatable to vary the gap between the first and second plates. Each adjuster is coupled to the second plate by a joint having at least two degrees of freedom. Also disclosed is an outrigger (300). The outrigger includes a body featuring a connection component configured to be received and held by a slot (34) of the instrument. The slot is arranged to align a blade of a surgical saw with a portion of a knee to be cut. Also disclosed is a method of balancing a knee using the instrument and a method of fabricating the instrument.

The embodiments provide various interbody fusion spacers, or cages, for insertion between adjacent vertebrae. The cages may contain an articulating joint to allow expansion and angular adjustment, and enable upper and lower plate components to move relative to one another. The cages may have a first, insertion configuration characterized by a reduced size at each of their insertion ends to facilitate insertion through a narrow access passage and into the intervertebral space. In their second, expanded configuration, the cages are able to maintain the proper disc height and stabilize the spine by restoring sagittal balance and alignment. The intervertebral cages are able to adjust the angle of lordosis, and can accommodate larger lodortic angles in their second, expanded configuration. Further, these cages may promote fusion to further enhance spine stability by immobilizing the adjacent vertebral bodies.

The expandable implant includes a base member having a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface, and an adjustable member adjustably coupled to the base member and movable between a first, collapsed position, and a second, expanded position. The adjustable member has a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface. The top surface of the adjustable member and the bottom surface of the base member form a first angle while the adjustable member is in the first, collapsed position, and the top surface of the adjustable member and the bottom surface of the base member form a second angle while the adjustable member is in the second, expanded position. The first angle is different from the second angle.

Locking system for interspinous implant insertion instrument

An insertion instrument for inserting an implant includes an elongated main body having a proximal handle and a distal portion that selectively couples to the implant. A plunger is slidably engaged in a central passage of the elongated main body to fix the implant to the elongated main body. A hex nut driver is concentrically located about the plunger and elongated main body to deploy an actuation plunger of the implant. The proximal handle portion of the main body includes a staggered path therethrough for accepting a tab of the plunger therein. Advancement and retraction of the plunger tab within the staggered path alternates the insertion instrument between an unlocked position to mount the implant on the distal portion, a locked position to lock the implant on the distal portion, and a deployed position configured to secure the implant in position.

EXPANDABLE INTER-BODY DEVICE, EXPANDABLE PLATE SYSTEM, AND ASSOCIATED METHODS

The present disclosure provides for spinal implants and plates including, for example, expandable plates deployable between a contracted position and an expanded position. The expandable plate may include an expandable body including a first portion and a second portion. The first portion may include a receiving cavity facing the proximal end, and a first through aperture extending in the proximal-to-distal direction. The second portion may include a lower end having a size and shape that corresponds to the receiving cavity, and a second through aperture extending in the proximal-to-distal direction. The expandable plate may include a locking screw and a nut. In at least some embodiments, in a locked position, the locking screw extends through the first through aperture and second through aperture, and is secured to the nut. In various embodiments, in an expanded position the first portion and second portion are farther away from one another relative to a contracted position.
