Customized intervertebral prosthetic disc with shock absorption
A prosthesis system comprises plates that can be positioned against vertebrae and a selected resilient core that can be positioned between the plates to allow the plates to articulate. The selected resilient core can be chosen from a plurality of cores in response to patient characteristics, such as age and/or intervertebral mobility, such that the prosthesis implanted in the patient is tailored to the needs of the patient. The plurality of cores may comprise cores with different resiliencies, and one of the cores can be selected such that the upper and lower plates articulate with the desired shock absorbing resiliency and/or maximum angle of inclination when the one selected core is positioned between the plates.
METHOD FOR LIMITING DIFFUSION OF WEAR DEBRIS OF IN VIVO IMPLANT
Disclosed are a method for limiting diffusion of wear debris of an in vivo implant and an in vivo implant apparatus with a function of limiting wear debris. An elastomer seal is arranged at a wearing part between implant components that can move relatively and generate wear, such that an outlet for wear debris of the implant is always sealed within a sealing area formed by the seal and the implant components, thereby preventing the wear debris from diffusing outwards. The elastomer seal includes at least one flexible buffer part for reducing or completely offsetting relative motion between the implant components, thereby further reducing wear of a sealing part of the elastomer seal due to the relative motion between the parts. The seal is tightly attached to in vivo implant components, and the in vivo implant is smaller than a force for driving the components to generate relative motion.
ARTHROPLASTY IMPLANT SYSTEMS FOR GENERATING AND APPLYING DYNAMIC COMPRESSION
Arthroplasty implant systems and procedures are disclosed herein. In an embodiment, an arthroplasty implant of an arthroplasty system includes a shape memory material connecting member attached to two points of fixation of the arthroplasty implant.
Articular Gasket Prosthesis and Articular Prosthesis with Articular Gasket Prosthesis
The disclosure provides an articular gasket prosthesis and an articular prosthesis with the articular gasket prosthesis. The articular gasket prosthesis includes an elastic gasket disposed between a first skeleton and second skeleton forming a joint, the elastic gasket including: an elastic matrix, having a first contact surface facing the first skeleton and a second contact surface facing the second skeleton; and multiple synovial fluid passages, distributed in the elastic matrix and communicating the first contact surface and the second contact surface, the multiple synovial fluid passages being disposed according to a predetermined manner to gradually increase hardness of the elastic matrix from a center to an edge and gradually decrease elasticity of the elastic matrix from the center to the edge.
Anatomy accommodating prosthetic intervertebral disc with lower height
An intervertebral disc includes a superior endplate having an upper vertebral contacting surface and a lower bearing surface, wherein the upper vertebral contacting surface of the superior endplate has a central portion that is raised relative to a peripheral portion of the superior endplate, and wherein the lower bearing surface has a concavity disposed opposite the raised central portion. The disc includes an inferior endplate having a lower vertebral contacting surface and an upper surface, wherein the lower vertebral contacting surface of the inferior endplate has a central portion and wherein the upper bearing surface has a concavity disposed opposite the central portion. A core is positioned between the upper and inferior endplates, the core having upper and lower core bearing surfaces configured to mate with the bearing surfaces of the upper and inferior endplates. The upper vertebral contacting surface of the superior endplate has a different shape than the lower vertebral contacting surface of the inferior endplate.
Dynamic Disc Assembly
A dynamic disc assembly has a superior end plate, an inferior end plate, and a core. The core has surfaces of an annular Fresnel shape and a linear Fresnel-like shape combined to control the dynamic range of motion (ROM) movement arranged to match anatomical ROM. The core is interposed between and held against interior surfaces of the superior end plate and the inferior end plate. The assembly further has a pair of coupling cords, one coupling cord at each lateral end of the superior and inferior end plates wherein each lateral end of each end plate has one or more cord connections attached and affixed to the coupling cord to form and retain the dynamic disc assembly.
Unitary spinal disc implant
A unitary intervertebral device, having no moving components is provided for non-fusion articulation and fusion applications. The interbody articulating device allows for limited flexion and rotation between the implant and an adjacent vertebrae, helping to preserve or restore near-normal motion between adjacent vertebrae. Rotational motion is achieved through one or more protrusions incorporated into the spinal interbody device. In one articulating form, a first protrusion extends perpendicularly from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a rotational protrusion, while at least a second protrusion extends from the opposite bearing surface of the interbody device to form a non-rotational protrusion. In another form, a single protrusion extends axially from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a spike or anchoring, rotating protrusion, while the opposite bearing surface may be slightly rounded and/or comprising a bone-ingrowth promoting surface. Similarly configured fusion salvage devices are also described.
Hip joint method
An implantable medical device for implantation in a hip joint of a human patient is provided. The medical device comprises: at least one artificial hip joint surface adapted to replace at least the surface of at least one of the caput femur and acetabulum. At least one artificial hip joint surface comprises: a positioning hole with at least one opening in said at least one artificial hip joint surface. The hole is adapted to be placed and dimensioned such that the medical device is adapted to be fitted using a positioning shaft and at least partly surround the shaft, for positioning the at least one artificial hip joint surface in a desired position in the hip joint. The hole is adapted to be fitted using the positioning shaft, when the shaft is stabilized and placed in at least one of the femoral bone and the pelvic bone for positioning said medical device inside the hip joint.
EXPANDABLE ARTICULATING INTERVERTEBRAL IMPLANT WITH LIMITED ARTICULATION
An artificial functional spinal unit including an expandable intervertebral implant that can be inserted via a posterior surgical approach and used with one or more facet replacement devices to provide an anatomically correct range of motion is described. Lordotic and non-lordotic expandable, articulating implants and cages are described, along with embodiments of facet replacement devices and instruments for insertion. Methods of insertion are also described.
INTEROSSEOUS CAGE
Disclosed are interosseous cages interposed between two bones. The cage includes at least one body with two bearing faces each bearing face being configured so as to come into contact with the two bones, the body being produced from a first material having a given strength, a through cavity produced in the body opening onto the two faces and an insert defined between two end faces and having a cross section which is at most equal to the cross section of the through cavity, in a manner such that the insert is slid into the cavity, this insert furthermore being configured in a manner such that its end faces are respectively a continuation of the two faces when the insert is in the cavity, the insert being produced from a second material which is stronger than the first material. Application primarily to the production of intervertebral cages.
