Hip arthroplasty trial systems and associated medical devices, methods, and kits
Hip arthroplasty trial systems and associated medical devices, methods, and kits are described that can be utilized in situ to complete a femoral head trial. An example embodiment of a hip arthroplasty trial system includes a medical device and a femoral stem. The medical device has a head member, a spacer, a shaft, and a locking member. The spacer is disposed within the head member and is moveable from a first position to a second position. The shaft is disposed within the head member and contacts the femoral stem. The shaft is moveable from a first position to a second position. Movement of the shaft from the first position to the second position moves the spacer from its first position to its second position. The locking member is disposed within the head member and releasably attaches the shaft to the head member.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE INSERTION OF INTERVERTEBRAL IMPLANTS
A dilation introducer for orthopedic surgery is provided for minimally invasive access for insertion of an intervertebral implant. The dilation introducer may be used to provide an access position through Kambin’s triangle from a posterolateral approach. A first dilator tube with a first longitudinal axis is provided. A second dilator tube may be introduced over the first, advanced along a second longitudinal axis parallel to but offset from the first. A third dilator tube may be introduced over the second, advanced along a third longitudinal axis parallel to but offset from both the first and the second. An access cannula may be introduced over the third dilator tube. With the first, second, and third dilator tubes removed, surgical instruments may pass through the access cannula to operate on an intervertebral disc and/or insert an intervertebral implant.
EXPANDABLE AUGMENT SYSTEM FOR ACETABULAR CUP
An expandable augment system is provided for use with an acetabular cup. The expandable augment system can include an expandable augment module that is adjustable in size and that can be adjusted incrementally between a fully collapsed state and an expanded state. A first portion of the expandable augment module is attachable to an outer surface of an acetabular cup and a second portion of the expandable augment module is attachable to bone or to a fixed augment module (e.g., a fixed angle augment module) that is attached to bone and interposed between the adjustable augment module and bone.
INTERBODY SPINAL CAGE
An interbody spinal cage when implanted can be manipulated non-invasively to change dimensions conforming to contours of adjacent vertebral bones. The interbody spinal cage includes a flexible shell that encases multiple variable-length rods. Each of the multiple variable-length rods includes telescoping tubes and an actuator for increasing and decreasing the length of the telescoping tubes. Each of the variable-length rods includes a retention member to limit movements of the telescoping tubes, wherein the retention member can be engaged and disengaged. Both the retention member and the actuator can be operated from outside the body in which the interbody spinal cage is implanted.
EXTRACORPOREALLY LENGTH-ADJUSTABLE IMPLANT SYSTEM, AND LENGTH-ADJUSTABLE IMPLANT COMPONENT
An extracorporeally length-adjustable implant system comprises an implant component to be fastened to a bone to be lengthened and an adjustment device with two fastening parts that are displaceable relative to one another, each of which is intended for arrangement at a part of the bone to be lengthened, wherein the adjustment device is able to distract the two fastening parts and comprises a drive element with a permanent magnet arranged in rotationally fashion and a mechanism which converts a rotational movement of the permanent magnet into a distracting longitudinal movement of the adjustment device; and an extracorporeal drive unit for the drive element of the implant component. The extracorporeal drive unit comprises a rotatably mounted extracorporeal magnetic ring with an interior to receive the bone to be lengthened with the adjustment device, and an actuation device to rotate the extracorporeal magnetic ring in the ring plane thereof.
Expandable Vertebral Implant and Method
A system and methods for assembling an expandable vertebral implant for engagement between vertebrae. The implant may expand and/or collapse between a variety of lengths. The implant may include an inner core, an outer core, and/or a middle core such that the inner and outer cores may be moveable relative to each other along an axis. The middle core may include one or more gear teeth. The implant may include one or more locking mechanisms. The implant may include one or more endplates. One endplate may be fixed and/or polyaxial. A tool may be used to vary the length of the implant.
MEDICAL IMPLANT DEVICE
Systems and methods to evaluate a joint implant device are provided. The joint implant device can include a prosthesis body having a first end and a second end. The first end can couple with a first joint component and the second end can couple with a second joint component. The prosthesis body can include a first support. The prosthesis body can include a first gear rotatably coupled with the first support. The prosthesis body can include a second support movably coupled with the first support. The second support can include a second gear that can engage with a portion of the first gear. The prosthesis body can include a third support. The third support can movably couple with the second support. The third support can move relative to the first support with activation of the first gear.
Expandable intervertebral implant
An expandable intervertebral implant is provided for insertion into an intervertebral space defined by adjacent vertebrae. The expandable intervertebral implant includes a pair of outer sleeve portions and an inner core disposed between the outer sleeve portions. Movement of the inner core relative to the outer sleeve portions causes the outers sleeve portions to deflect away from each other, thereby engaging the expandable intervertebral implant with the vertebrae and adjusting the height of the intervertebral space.
Expandable interspinous process fixation device
An expandable interspinous process fixation system capable of restoring spinal stability and facilitating fusion. In one embodiment, the expandable interspinous process fixation system includes a central ramp, a first endplate, and a second endplate, the central ramp capable of being moved in a first direction to move the first and second endplates outwardly and into an expanded configuration. Each endplate supporting fixed and/or adjustable spinous process engaging plates.
Expandable implant
An expandable implant is disclosed in which the implant includes top and bottom plates having angled inner surfaces that interact with expansion members. The expansion members may be situated on an actuator, and may include at least one vertical projection. In some instances, rotation of the actuator in opposing directions about a longitudinal axis may cause the expansion members to move toward or away from one another, thereby resulting in separation of the top and bottom plates. During such expansion of the implant, the at least one vertical projection of the expansion members may be guided at least partially within a recess formed in the first or second plate. Pins may also be included with the expansion members that ride along respective slots in the plates during expansion. An insertion instrument for implanting the aforementioned implant, and methods of using the same, are also disclosed.
