The articulating body includes a second articulating surface and a recess extending inwardly relative to a surrounding area of the articulating body and aligned with the projection of the interior surface of the enclosing body so as to allow movement of the projection along the recess of the enclosing body while constraining rotational motion of the articulating body within the enclosing body.

Prosthesis for hip replacement with polyethylene head and anti-rotational intra-prosthetic assembly
11638647 · 2023-05-02 ·

This invention corresponds to a prosthesis for total or hip resurfacing replacement, which comprises a prosthetic femoral head made of highly cross-linked polyethylene, with a diameter ranging from 38 mm to 64 mm, to articulate with a cup or acetabular component made of metal. When the invention applies to total hip replacement, the polyethylene head includes a metal core, which contains inside the female counterpart (14) to mate with the male counterpart (13) of a Morse taper, located at the upper end of the femoral component. The use of this type of head for total hip replacement, articulated with an ultra-polished acetabular cup, reduces the risk of dislocation, transmits less angular and torque forces to the Morse taper than large metal heads, and avoids the problems related to the metal-metal bearing or with the use of large metal heads with thin polyethylene. When the invention relates to hip resurfacing replacement, the highly cross-linked polyethylene femoral head has a lower polyethylene extension or stem with or without internal metal reinforcement (151) or a metal stem integrated into a metal-back (152). Using these types of heads for hip resurfacing replacement heads eliminates the problems associated with metal-on-metal resurfacing replacements.

POSTERIOR PROSTHETIC INTERVERTEBRAL DISC
20220409391 · 2022-12-29 ·

The disclosure provides an implant including first and second interconnected elongated articulating portions with vertebral contacting outer surfaces. The first and second interconnected elongated articulating portions have a first configuration for insertion into a disc space and a second configuration upon deployment in the disc space. In a first configuration the axes of the first and second interconnected elongated articulating portions are substantially axially aligned with each other and in a second configuration the axes of the portions are axially unaligned with each other. The first and second interconnected elongated articulating portions are configured to be deployed in situ from the first configuration to the second configuration by both pivoting. The implant is expandable in the height direction between the vertebral contacting outer surfaces while the implant is inside the disc space by sliding a portion of at least one of the first and second elongated articulating portions.

METHODS AND DEVICES FOR ALTERING SPINAL LORDOSIS AND/OR KYPHOSIS

Disclosed are systems, devices, methods and surgical procedures for altering and/or correcting the alignment of adjacent bones, including bones of the spine.

Artificial cervical and lumbar disc system

An artificial replacement disc includes a pair of substantially parallel plates formed to occupy a space defined by vertebral endplates, each of the plates including a plurality of spikes on a first surface and a concave trough formed on a second surface opposite of the first surface. A mobile core includes a core rim with opposing convex surfaces extending from opposite sides of the core rim, the mobile core being capable of being disposed between the pair of plates to permit the vertebral endplates to move relative to one another. The spikes on each of the plates extend substantially away from the mobile core and the convex surfaces are formed to integrally fit within the concave trough of at least one of the plates. The core rim limits lateral movement of the mobile core relative to the parallel plates. One or more insertion tools for inserting and implanting the replacement disc are also described.

TOTAL SPINAL JOINT SYSTEMS WITH DISSIMILAR BEARING MATERIALS
20230380984 · 2023-11-30 ·

Disclosed are devices, system and methods for spinal implants to be deployed into an intervertebral space between adjacent vertebrae to replace the function of the intervertebral disc and the facets, while restoring stability, flexibility, coronal alignment/balance, sagittal alignment/balance and proper biomechanical motion.

ARTIFICIAL INTERVERTEBRAL DISC WITH LOWER HEIGHT
20220273445 · 2022-09-01 ·

The disclosure provides an intervertebral disc and related methods. An upper plate includes an upper vertebra contacting portion and a lower bearing surface portion. The upper vertebra contacting portion includes a convex central portion, and a fin or anchoring element with a transverse hole therethrough. A lower plate has a lower vertebra contacting surface and an upper bearing surface. The lower vertebra contacting surface of the lower plate has a convex central portion. The upper bearing surface has a concavity disposed opposite the convex central portion and wherein the convex central portion and the concavity have nesting curvatures. A core positioned between the upper and lower plates has rigid upper and lower convex surfaces configured to slide and translate over the bearing surfaces of the upper and lower plates.

Glenohumeral component for a shoulder prosthesis, and shoulder prosthesis comprising such a glenohumeral component
11439512 · 2022-09-13 · ·

The glenohumeral component of the invention comprises a first side and a second side, which are opposite each other and which, in an implanted state in which the glenohumeral component is free-floating with respect to a humerus and a glenoid of a human shoulder, are in contact respectively with an end portion of the humerus and with a glenoid component intended to be secured to the glenoid. The first side of the glenohumeral component includes a convex articular surface that is designed to articulate with a concave bone surface prepared within the end portion of the humerus. The second side of the glenohumeral component includes a concave articular surface that is designed to articulate with a convex articular surface of the glenoid component. The corresponding shoulder prosthesis is thus reversed. Moreover, the articular interface between the glenoid component, which is secured to the glenoid, and the rest of the prosthesis has double mobility, which provides a greater range of motion between the glenoid and the humerus.

An apparatus and method for joining members together using a self-drilling screw apparatus or stapling apparatus are disclosed. The screw apparatus includes a worm drive screw, a spur gear and superior and inferior screws which turn simultaneously in a bi-directional manner. A rotating mechanism drives the first and second screw members in opposite directions and causes the screw members to embed themselves in the members to be joined. The screw apparatus can be used to join members such as bones, portions of the spinal column, vertebral bodies, wood, building materials, metals, masonry, or plastics. A device employing two screws (two-in-one) can be combined with a capping horizontal mini-plate. A device employing three screws can be combined in enclosures (three-in-one). The stapling apparatus includes grip handles, transmission linkages, a drive rod a fulcrum and a cylinder. The staple has superior and inferior segments with serrated interfaces, a teethed unidirectional locking mechanism and four facet piercing elements. The staples can be also be used to join members such as bones, portions of the spinal column, or vertebral bodies.
