SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING PATIENT FOLLOW-UP SUBSEQUENT TO AN ORTHOPAEDIC PROCEDURE
A method of determining patient follow-up subsequent to an orthopaedic procedure includes determining the number of cycles of use of an orthopaedic joint of the patient. If a predetermined threshold is exceeded, communication with an orthopaedic care provider is initiated. A patient monitoring system is also disclosed.
A RELAY DEVICE FOR RELAYING RADIO FREQUENCY SIGNALS RECEIVED FROM AN ANTENNA IMPLANTED WITHIN A PATIENT'S BODY TO ANOTHER DEVICE
A relay device (201) is described for relaying radio frequency signals received from an antenna implanted within a patient's body to another device located outside the patient's body, the relay device comprising a first slot antenna for detecting radio frequency signals sent from the antenna implanted within the patient's body and a second slot antenna for transmitting radio frequency signals to the other device located outside the patient's body, whereby the first and second slot antennas comprise elongated slots (209, 211) on opposite sides of a cavity (203). The signals to be transmitted by the second slot antenna are to be used to relay information conveyed by the signals detected by the first slot antenna. The relay device also comprises switching means (215, 217) for switching the first and second slot antennas between active and inactive configurations.
IMPLANTABLE DEVICE FOR EXTERNAL URINARY CONTROL
The present invention relates to an implantable apparatus for obtaining urinary control and emptying of the urinary bladder. The apparatus operates with a powered member (100) operating from the outside of the urinary bladder assisted by a support structure to discharge urine from the urinary bladder. A control device (200) controls the operation of the powered member. The control device further comprises a source of energy for operating the powered member and other energy consuming parts of the apparatus and a control assembly.
JOINT MEASUREMENT DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS
A medical device used for measuring loads at joints. The device may have a stem coupled to bone, a neck, and a ball joint coupled to the neck. The ball joint may be a femoral trial head. The ball joint may be an upper and lower housing coupled together. The ball joint houses a central column that may be a part of the lower housing, a circuit board on the column, and sensors. The sensors may be radially arrange around the circuit board at equal distances from the circuit board and equal angular distances from each other. The sensors may be impacted by features on the inner surface of the upper housing so that they may together measure the force on the upper housing. The force magnitude and location at the joint may be determined from the forces measured at the sensors.
MEDICAL DEVICES WITH INTEGRATED SENSORS AND METHOD OF PRODUCTION
Medical devices used for the treatment of disease, monitoring of physiological properties and the correction of deformities and/or degenerative conditions including integrated sensors providing physiological parameters to assist in assessing healing and the clinical management of patients. Including methods of production of said medical devices.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING INFECTIONS
This invention relates to diagnostic medical instruments and procedures, and more particularly to implantable devices and methods for monitoring physiological parameters. A device for providing in vivo diagnostics of infections in orthopedic implants having at least one signal processing device operatively coupled with sensors. The signal processing device is operable to receive the output signal from the sensors and transmit a signal corresponding with the output signal. The invention also relates to a method using the device of the invention for detecting infection associated with implants in a human or animal subject.
Method And Apparatus For Post-Operative Tuning Of A Spinal Implant
A tunable implant, system, and method enables a tunable implant to be adjusted within a patient. The tunable implant includes a securing mechanism to secure the implant in the patient, a actuation portion that enables the implant to move and an adjustment portion that permits adjustment of the implant after the implant has been positioned within the patient. The method of adjusting the tunable implant includes analyzing the operation of the implant, determining if any adjustments are necessary and adjusting the implant to improve implant performance. The implant system includes both the tunable implant and a telemetric system that is operable to telemetrically receive data from the tunable implant where the data is used to determine if adjustment of the tunable implant is necessary. The system also includes an instrument assembly that is used for performing spinal surgery where the instrument assembly includes a mounting platform and a jig.
Smart joint implant sensors
A prosthesis for implantation into a mammalian body, the device comprising: (a) a prosthesis for implantation into a mammalian body that includes a sensor array comprising a plurality of sensors mounted to the prosthesis; and (b) an electronics structure for receiving signals from the sensor array and wirelessly transmitting representative signals to a remote receiver, where the plurality of sensors are operative to sense pressure, applied to the prosthesis by another object, in at least two axes generally perpendicular to one another.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING HIP REPLACEMENTS
Hip replacement prosthesis are provided, comprising a femoral stem, a femoral head coupled to the femoral stem, and an acetabular assembly coupled to the femoral head, and a plurality of sensors coupled to at least of the femoral stem, femoral head, and acetabular assembly.
Hip joint device and method
A medical device for treating hip joint osteoarthritis in a human patient by providing at least one artificial hip joint surface is provided. The hip joint having a ball shaped caput femur as the proximal part of the femoral bone with a convex hip joint surface towards the centre of the hip joint and a bowl shaped etabulum as part of the pelvic bone with a concave hip joint surface towards the centre of the hip joint. The medical device comprises the artificial hip joint surface comprising at least one of; an artificial caput femur or an artificial caput femur surface comprising, a convex form towards the centre of the hip joint, and an artificial acetabulum or an artificial acetabulum surface comprising, a concave form towards the centre of the hip joint. The artificial convex caput femur or the artificial convex caput femur surface is adapted to be fixated to the pelvic bone of the human patient and the artificial concave acetabulum or artificial concave acetabulum surface is adapted to be fixated to the femoral bone of the human patient.
