The elongated body has one or more elongated fusing gutters extending along the longitudinal direction on an outer surface of the elongated body covering the first and second segments, a central opening extending along the longitudinal direction through the elongated body's center and one or more through-openings that extend horizontally and intersect with the one or more fusing gutters.
Anchoring device and system for an intervertebral implant, intervertebral implant and implantation instrument
Anchoring devices, anchoring systems for intervertebral implants, intervertebral implants, and instruments and methods for implanting implants are disclosed. In preferred configurations, these various objects share the feature of comprising or cooperating with an anchoring device having a body comprising at least one curved plate elongated along a longitudinal axis, designed to be inserted through a passage crossing at least a part of implant, in order to penetrate into at least one vertebral endplate and attach implant onto this vertebral endplate by means of at least one stop retaining the implant, characterized in that the body comprises at least one longitudinal rib on at least a part of at least one of its faces, said rib being designed to cooperate with a groove made in passage of implant. In some preferred configurations, anchoring device comprises withdrawal stops or latches, and/or means for withdrawing the anchor from an inserted position.
Novel Implant Inserter Having a Laterally-Extending Dovetail Engagement Feature
A method of inserting a screw into a fusion cage, comprising the step of: i) attaching a screw head of a bone screw to a flexible bone screw driver comprising: a) a proximal handle, b) an intermediate shaft, c) a flexible distal end portion comprising a plurality of interlocking segments portion defining a periphery and a distal tip adapted to engage the screw head, and d) a flexible pre-bent sleeve that is configured to be placed radially over and around the plurality of interlocking segments to provide a loaded configuration,
wherein the plurality of interlocking segments portion is substantially straight in its unloaded configuration,
whereby the pre-bent sleeve pre-determines the trajectory of the tip in the loaded configuration, ii) inserting the bone screw into a threaded throughhole of a fusion cage comprising a front wall, a pair of opposing side walls, a back wall, and top and bottom surfaces adapted for gripping opposed vertebral endplates, wherein the front wall comprises the threaded throughhole,
INTERVERTEBRAL SPACERS AND RELATED METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS
Biomedical implants comprising portions made of disparate materials such as intervertebral implants and related methods and instruments. In some embodiments, the implant may comprise a base portion comprising a first material and a secondary fastener portion comprising a second material having distinct physical properties relative to the first material. The secondary portion may wholly define a front end wall surface of the implant, and the base portion and the secondary portion may collectively define at least one of an upper surface and a lower surface of the implant.
Stand-alone ALIF spine implants
ALIF spine implants, ALIF installation instruments/tools, and ALIF procedures using the present ALIF implants and present ALIF installation instruments for an anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) surgical procedure are provided. The ALIF implants are characterized by an ALIF cage and anchoring members. The ALIF installation instruments are characterized by a shaft having an inserter on one end that receives and holds an ALIF cage and anchoring members. The installation instrument allows insertion of the ALIF cage into a vertebral space, the anchoring members to be received in the ALIF cage, and then into vertebral bone. The ALIF cage is preferably, but not necessarily, 3-D printed having a central cavity, an end configured to accept a plurality of anchoring members and direct a portion of the anchoring members up and out of the cavity, a cutout configured to receive an anchoring member retention component, and an anchoring member retention component.
ANCHORING DEVICE AND SYSTEM FOR AN INTERVERTEBRAL IMPLANT, INTERVERTEBRAL IMPLANT AND IMPLANTATION INSTRUMENT
Various embodiments of intervertebral implants, anchoring devices for intervertebral implants, and implantation instrumentation are provided, along with various embodiments of methods for using one or more of the devices. Some embodiments of an anchoring device have a body comprising at least one curve and a rigid plate elongated along a longitudinal axis so that its front end enters at least one vertebra while its rear end remains in the passage of an implant. In some embodiments, the plate comprises at least one longitudinal slot separating at least one posterior portion of the plate into two branches, with at least one branch comprising at least one withdrawal stop configured to retain the device in the implant.
Disc replacement device and method of use
A disc replacement device including a first body member with a convex articulation surface and a second body member with a concave articulation surface is disclosed. When operably positioned, the convex articulation surface engages the concave articulation surface to provide for movement therebetween. The disc replacement device also includes a first opening in the first body member and a second opening in the second body member, wherein the openings are angled and extends from the front aspects of the body members through the external surfaces.
