The shell includes one or more mounting holes that extend through the inner surface and the outer surface. A plurality of plugs are configured to be coupled to the shell, and each plug is sized to be positioned in at least one of the mounting holes of the shell. A bone screw is configured to be inserted through one of the plurality of plugs into the surgically-prepared surface to secure the shell to the patient's acetabulum.

Implant surfaces

The implants of the invention relate to improved implants formed using additive manufacturing techniques, the implants including a hemispherical cup portion, and an ischium flange, a pubic ramus flange and an ilium flange, each flange extending outwardly from the perimeter of the hemispherical cup portion, wherein the implant surface includes an area of integrally formed three dimensional scaffold on the bone apposition surfaces of the cup portion and on a bone apposition surface of at least one of the flanges of the implant. The invention also relates to implants with different surface texture and alignment features, together with methods for the manufacture of patient-specific implants of the invention.

IMPLANTS WITH GROOVE PATTERNS AND SOFT TISSUE ATTACHMENT FEATURES

An orthopaedic implant includes: an implant body including a biocompatible material and configured to be implanted at an anatomical location, the implant body defining an attachment region on an outer surface of the implant body; an adjustable holder attached to the implant body and having a compression surface facing the attachment region, the adjustable holder being configured to be implanted at the anatomical location with the implant body and adjustably compress a soft tissue and/or a graft material between the compression surface and the attachment region; and a ratcheting mechanism attached to the implant body and configured to apply tension to the soft tissue and/or the graft material connected to the ratcheting mechanism.

Medical implant surface treatments and methods are described. Such a surface treatment may provide an uneven texture that is configured to interlock with adjoining bone and/or an uneven texture on another implant, such as an augment for an acetabular cup for revision hip surgery. At least one of the uneven texture of the cup bone-facing surface and the uneven texture of the augment cup-facing surface may include a web of rods. The rods may be configured to interlock with each other when the two implants are urged together.

Lateralized dual-mobility assembly

A modular acetabular cup assembly includes an acetabular cup, and a liner seated in the cup. The cup includes an end face, an apex opposite the end face, and a central axis extending between the apex and a center point of the end face. The liner includes an articular surface having a center of rotation which defines a pivot point of the acetabular cup assembly. In certain embodiments, the pivot point is laterally offset from the center point such that the end face is located between the pivot point and the apex.

A cup impactor (1, 1, 1) is provided, adapted to assist a surgeon in controlling implantation of a cup prosthesis (9). The impactor has an impactor body (8), a drive train assembly (71), an impactor nose (38), and a clamping handle (5). The impactor body (8) has on its proximal end, an impaction plate (7) connected thereto, and an impactor handle (6) formed thereon for handling by the surgeon and, on the distal end, an impactor cup support portion (8a) having a receiver recess (8b) therein. A drive train assembly (71) has a prosthesis engaging interface (11) at a distal end thereof, and a proximal end on which a positioning knob (2) is formed. The assembly (71) received and rotatably mounted in the receiver recess (8b) of the body (8) so as to expose the prosthesis engaging surface (11). An impactor nose (38) mounts on the distal end of the impactor body (8), through which the prosthesis engaging interface (11) extends. A clamping handle (5) pulls distal portion of the drive train assembly (71) and therefore any cup prosthesis (9) attached to the engaging interface (11) against the impactor nose (38) so as not to strain the proximal end of the drive train assembly (71).

The present invention provides a method for stabilizing a fractured bone. The method includes positioning an elongate rod in the medullary canal of the fractured bone and forming a passageway through the cortex of the bone. The passageway extends from the exterior surface of the bone to the medullary canal of the bone. The method also includes creating a bonding region on the elongate rod. The bonding region is generally aligned with the passageway of the cortex. Furthermore, the method includes positioning a fastener in the passageway of the cortex and on the bonding region of the elongate rod and thermally bonding the fastener to the bonding region of the elongate rod while the fastener is positioned in the passageway of the cortex.

Systems and methods for ligament balancing during robotic surgery. One or more transducers are positioned within a knee joint to detect forces indicative of tension in ligaments and to provide output based on the detected forces. A distraction device is used to provide a distraction force to cause movement of a distal end portion of a femur relative to a proximal end portion of a tibia to increase tension in the ligaments. Information associated with output from the transducers is displayed for viewing.
