ACETABULAR CUP ASSEMBLY FOR MULTIPLE BEARING MATERIALS
A modular acetabular cup assembly for use with multiple bearing liners is disclosed. The acetabular cup assembly includes a shell having a tapered inner wall and two circumferential grooves. The shell may be used with polyethylene, ceramic, metal, and other types of liners.
COMPUTER-ASSISTED HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY
A CAS system and method for guiding an operator in inserting a femoral implant in a femur as a function of a limb length and orientation of the femoral implant with respect to the femur, comprising a reference tool for the femur, a registration tool, a bone altering tool and a sensing apparatus. A controller is connected to the sensing apparatus to: i) register a frame of reference of the femur by calculating surface information provided by the registration tool as a function of the position and orientation of the registration tool provided by the sensing apparatus, and/or retrieving in a database a model of the femur; ii) calculate a desired implant position with respect to the frame of reference as a function of the limb length; and iii) calculate a current implant position and orientation in relation to the desired implant position with respect to alterations being performed in the femur with the bone altering tool, as a function of the position and orientation of the bone altering tool provided by the sensing apparatus and of a digital model of a femoral implant provided by the database. The database is connected to the controller for the controller to store and retrieve information relating to an operation of the controller. The computer-assisted system may be used to guide an operator in inserting a pelvic implant in an acetabulum as a function of an orientation of the pelvic implant with respect to the pelvis.
ORTHOPAEDIC HIP PROSTHESIS SURFACE PROTECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD
An orthopaedic system includes a femoral stem assembly having a protective casing or shell that protects one or more mating surfaces of the femoral stem component from incidental damage. The system includes a femoral head assembly having a protective casing or shell that protects one or more mating surfaces of the femoral head component from incidental damage. The system may also include a surgical instrument that is configured to detach or remove the protective casings from the prosthetic components of the femoral stem assembly and the femoral head assembly and secure the femoral stem component to the femoral head component. Methods of use and performing an orthopaedic surgical procedure are also disclosed.
Medical force measuring system
A medical force measuring system is provided for measuring a force effective between two prosthesis parts that are connected to one another in articulated manner in a joint prosthesis which includes a ball joint or a partial component thereof. The force measuring system includes a measuring instrument which has a sample joint element with a sample joint surface. The sample joint element is formed in correspondence with a first joint element that forms a part of the ball joint and has a joint surface which is formed in correspondence with the sample joint surface and is moveable into engagement therewith for forming a sample ball joint. The measuring instrument also includes at least one of a measuring device and an indicating device which cooperates with the sample joint element for measuring and/or indicating a force (or a partial component thereof) effective on the sample joint surface.
MANIFOLDS, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR ADMINISTERING REDUCED PRESSURE TO A SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE SITE
Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for delivering reduced pressure to a subcutaneous tissue site, such as a bone tissue site. In one instance, a manifold for providing reduced pressure to a subcutaneous tissue includes a longitudinal manifold body formed with at least one purging lumen and a reduced-pressure lumen. The manifold further includes a plurality of manifolding surface features or slits formed on the second, tissue-facing side of the longitudinal manifold body and a plurality of apertures formed in the longitudinal manifold body on the second, tissue-facing side. The plurality of apertures fluidly couple the reduced-pressure lumen and the manifolding surface features or slits. The manifold further includes an end cap fluidly coupling the reduced-pressure lumen and the at least one purging lumen. Other systems, apparatuses, and methods are presented.
Hip joint method
A surgical or arthroscopic method for resurfacing at least one surface of a hip joint of a human patient using a medical device comprising a first sealing member. The hip joint has an acetabulum surface and a caput femur surface and the method comprises the steps of creating at least one hole passing into the hip joint, placing the first sealing member between the acetabulum surface and the caput femur surface, thereby creating a sealed hollow space between the acetabulum and the caput femur using the first sealing member, and injecting a material into the sealed hollow space, and thereby creating an artificial hip joint surface.
System for percutaneously administering reduced pressure treatment using balloon dissection
A reduced pressure delivery system for applying reduced pressure tissue treatment to a tissue site is provided. The system includes a manifold delivery tube and a balloon having an inner space. The balloon is capable of assuming collapsed and expanded positions. The system further includes a manifold having a plurality of flow channels. The manifold is disposed within the inner space of the balloon. A sharp tip is configured to be delivered within the manifold delivery tube to puncture the balloon.

Femoral Head Protection Devices and Methods
Protection devices are described herein. The protection devices include a body having a first end comprising a curved portion integral with the body for engaging a femoral head, the curved portion having a front face that is concave and terminates at an edge extending between a first side of the body and a second side of the body, and a second end integral with and spaced apart from the first end by a middle portion. The second end and the middle portion are generally planar. The front face of the curved portion has a radius of curvature that corresponds to a radius of curvature of an outer surface of the femoral head to guide the femoral head into an acetabular cup. Methods of protecting a femoral head are also described herein.
