Force sense measurement in prosthesis installation
A system and method for allowing any surgeon, including those surgeons who perform a fewer number of a replacement procedure as compared to a more experienced surgeon who performs a greater number of procedures, to provide an improved likelihood of a favorable outcome approaching, if not exceeding, a likelihood of a favorable outcome as performed by a very experienced surgeon with the replacement procedure. Force sensing is included to aid in quantifying installation of an implant, particularly a cup into a pelvic bone.
Artificial joint
The artificial joint of the present invention is provided with a cup having a first housing part that opens on one first-direction side, an insert that is housed in the first housing part and has a second housing part that opens on one first-direction side, a movable member having a spherical head part rotatably housed in the second housing part and a neck part extending from the head part, and a connecting part that connects the insert to the cup pivotably around a pivotal axis extending in a second direction; the neck part contacting an edge part of the insert by pivoting around the pivotal axis; the insert pivoting around the pivotal axis; and part of the opposite side of the side pushed in by the neck part across the pivotal axis protruding from the cup to one first-direction side.
Protective Sheath For Medical Implant
A combined assembly of a medical implant and a sheath includes a medical implant having a surface and a sheath that is releasably secured to and protectively covers the surface of the medical implant. The sheath may protectively cover some or all of the surface of the medical implant. The sheath may be frictionally or mechanically retained on the medical implant. The medical implant may include both an inner surface and an outer surface, and the sheath may include both an inner sheath portion and an outer sheath portion. The sheath may include one or more perforations, a gripping structure that cooperates with a handling tool, or a handle.
Load dissipating arthoplasty prostheses
A load dissipating arthroplasty prosthesis comprising a shell, an articular device extending into the shell through a collar defined in the sell, a head and neck portion of the articular device extending from the collar, a shaft portion of the articular device extending into the shell, and a plurality of shock absorbing arcuate linkers spacing and allowing limited movement between the shell and the articular device.
Interconnected implants and methods
An apparatus, system, and method may be used to replace a natural or artificial articular surface of a joint, and to repair a bone that is associated with the joint. In some embodiments, the apparatus, system, and method may include a joint replacement prosthesis with a prosthetic articular surface, a support structure securable to the bone, and a first attachment interface. The system may also include a bone plate with a bone engagement surface securable to the bone on either side of a fracture formed in the bone, or a damaged area of the bone. The bone plate may include a second attachment interface that is attachable to the first attachment interface of the joint replacement prosthesis in order to couple the bone plate to the joint replacement prosthesis.
DEVICE FOR SENSING IMPLANT LOCATION AND IMPINGEMENT
Embodiments of a system and method for assessing hip arthroplasty component movement are generally described herein. A method may include receiving data from a sensor embedded in a femoral head component, the femoral head component configured to fit in an acetabular component, determining information about a magnetic field from the data, and outputting an indication of an orientation, coverage, or a force of the femoral head component relative to the acetabular component.
Hip implant with porous body
A hip implant having two distinct bodies, a neck body and a bone fixation body. The neck body is formed from a solid metal and has an interface for connecting to a femoral ball. The bone fixation body has an elongated shape and is formed as a porous structure that is inserted into an intramedullary canal of a patient.
Femoral and humeral stem geometry and implantation method for orthopedic joint reconstruction
The present inventions relate to devices and methods that improve the positioning and fit of orthopedic reconstructive joint replacement stem implants relative to existing methods. For example, an embodiment of the device provides a stem component comprising proximal and distal body portions that can be configured to mimic a geometric shape of a central cavity region created in a bone of a joint for improving conformance and fixation of the stem component thereto. Further, another embodiment provides a system of stem implants that each have a unique medial offset for facilitating the matching of an implant to the geometry of a central cavity region of a bone. Additionally, an inclination angle of a resection surface of each of the implants in the system can remain constant or vary as a function of the medial offset.
Tapered Stem With Anti-Rotation Features
An intramedullary stem prosthesis includes a trunnion tapered in a first direction toward a proximal end of the intramedullary stem, and a conical shaft interfacing with the trunnion at a modular taper junction. The conical shaft is tapered in a second direction toward a distal end of the second component and has a proximal portion, a distal portion, and flutes positioned about a longitudinal axis of the conical shaft and extending along an entire length of the conical shaft and terminating at the modular taper junction such that the flutes intersect the modular taper junction. The proximal portion defines a first taper angle, the distal portion defines a second taper angle greater than the first taper angle, and the flutes define a major diameter of the conical shaft. The major diameter tapers at a major diameter taper angle that is constant along the entire length of the conical shaft.
PROSTHESIS FOR HIP REPLACEMENT WITH POLYETHYLENE HEAD AND ANTI-ROTATIONAL INTRA-PROSTHETIC ASSEMBLY
This invention corresponds to a prosthesis for total or hip resurfacing replacement, which comprises a prosthetic femoral head made of highly cross-linked polyethylene, with a diameter ranging from 38 mm to 64 mm, to articulate with a cup or acetabular component made of metal. When the invention applies to total hip replacement, the polyethylene head includes a metal core, which contains inside the female counterpart (14) to mate with the male counterpart (13) of a Morse taper, located at the upper end of the femoral component. The use of this type of head for total hip replacement, articulated with an ultra-polished acetabular cup, reduces the risk of dislocation, transmits less angular and torque forces to the Morse taper than large metal heads, and avoids the problems related to the metal-metal bearing or with the use of large metal heads with thin polyethylene. When the invention relates to hip resurfacing replacement, the highly cross-linked polyethylene femoral head has a lower polyethylene extension or stem with or without internal metal reinforcement (151) or a metal stem integrated into a metal-back (152). Using these types of heads for hip resurfacing replacement heads eliminates the problems associated with metal-on-metal resurfacing replacements.
