SLEEVE ELEMENT TO BE PLACED ON A NECK OF A PROSTHETIC HIP OR SHOULDER IMPLANT

The invention provides a sleeve element (1) to be placed on a neck (53) of a prosthetic hip (51) or shoulder implant, wherein the sleeve element is made of a biodegradable elastically deformable material comprising a medical active agent to be released from the sleeve element. The sleeve element may comprise a longitudinal channel (2) and a longitudinal slit (3) extending over the length of the longitudinal channel and between the longitudinal channel and an outer surface of the sleeve element, wherein the sleeve element is elastically deformable between a closed state and an opened state, wherein a width of the longitudinal slit in the opened state is larger than the width of the longitudinal slit in the closed state. The invention also provides a prosthetic kit, comprising a prosthetic hip or shoulder implant having a neck, and the above sleeve element.

Mechanical assembly including exterior surface preparation
11406504 · 2022-08-09 ·

A system and method for improving mechanical assemblies, such as prosthetic implants, intended to be installed in living tissue such as bone. Force-imparting devices are adapted and may include angularity, which may be introduced with specialized additive manufacturing, which may impart congruent cross-sections while providing variable stiffness. In some cases, the variable stiffness may be “stretchy” in a longitudinal direction and “rigid” in a radial directional which may provide an assembly bias. Additive manufacturing may allow the material of a prosthesis to be varied (e.g., density/porosity) to create variable stiffness over a length.

Acetabular orthopaedic prosthesis and method

An orthopaedic components, prostheses, and methods for a hip arthroplasty are disclosed. The acetabular prosthetic component includes an outer rim and a cavity defined by an inner wall. The cavity is sized to receive a femoral head of a femoral prosthetic component. The inner wall includes a curved surface extending inwardly from the outer rim to an inner end, and a semi-spherical surface connected to the inner end of the curved surfac. The inner wall is shaped to resist dislocation of the femoral head component from the cavity and permit the femoral head component to articulate over a range of motion.

Prosthesis installation and assembly

A system and method for improving assembly of a modular prosthesis, particularly a femoral stem. The system and method may include implementation of assembly systems for modular prosthesis having one or more intermediate components between a pair of “end components” such as a stem and a head. Grip structures are provided on non-aligned assembly axes and holders are used for each phase to engage appropriate grip structures for joinder of components having aligned assembly axes.

HIP JOINT INSTRUMENT AND METHOD

A medical device for delivering an action to an area of a hip joint or its surroundings, inside a human body, is provided. The hip joint of a patient comprises a collum femur and a ball shaped caput femur, being the proximal parts of the femoral bone, and an acetabulum, being a bowl shaped part of the pelvic bone. The medical device comprising; an elongated member, having a length axis along its elongated distribution, comprising a first portion, adapted to enter the body of the patient, and a mechanical element, adapted to be used during an operation in the hip joint or its surroundings, inside the body. The first portion of the elongated member comprises a holding member adapted to hold the mechanical element inside the body of the patient, wherein the first portion of the elongated member have a first portion cross-section area substantially perpendicular to the length axis of the elongated member. The first portion is adapted to pass through a hole, in a bone of the patient, the hole having a hole cross-section area. The first portion cross-section area, is adapted to be smaller than said hole cross-section area. The mechanical element have a functional status, ready to deliver said action inside said body, when held by the holding member inside the body of the patient. The mechanical element is adapted to have a mechanical element cross-sectional area substantially perpendicular to the length axis of the elongated member, substantially larger than the first portion cross-sectional area and adapted to be unable to pass through the hole, when the mechanical element is in the functional status.

Constrained acetabular liner

There is provided an acetabular cup liner for a total hip replacement (THR) prosthesis comprising an inner surface with a hemispherical portion having a radius of curvature. The hemispherical portion is disposed about a centerline and it intersects a hemisphere plane perpendicular to the centerline so that the intersection of the hemispherical portion and the plane define a circle having a radius equal to the radius of curvature. The liner further comprises a capture portion continuous with the hemispherical portion that has the same radius of curvature as the hemispherical portion and connects with the hemispherical portion at the hemispherical plane along a first arc of the circle on the plane, and extends a first distance out of the plane. The liner further comprises an insertion portion continuous with the hemispherical portion. The insertion region is connected with the hemispherical portion along a second arc of the circle on the plane. The distance from the centerline to the insertion portion is greater than the radius. The cup liner constrains the femoral ball portion of the THR prosthesis. The femoral ball portion is engaged with the liner by orienting the ball at an angle so that the shoulder portion of the ball aligns with the insertion portion, pressing the ball into the liner, and orienting the ball away from the angle.
