10709582 · 2020-07-14 · ·

The present invention relates generally to devices and methods for firmly joining together components of a modular orthopedic prosthesis by securing female to male parts thereof together, and in particular a male part present in a modular component into a correspondingly configured female part (i.e., bore or recess) present in a further modular component thereof. Preferably the male part is tapered, and the bore or recess is correspondingly configured to provide a close tolerance fit therewith. In a preferred embodiment a securement device is used to join the components which securement device includes a heat resistant part or region which shields a heated part from its ambient environment; the securement device is useful in holding a component of an orthopedic prosthesis. In a further preferred embodiment the invention also comprises a heat treatment device which is issued to provide a suitable heat treatment to a component (or part thereof) of a modular orthopedic prosthesis. Methods of utilizing the securement device and the heat treatment device during surgical implantation of modular orthopedic prosthesis is also disclosed.

Tool and method for separating a femoral cup or a femoral ball from a femoral implant

A surgical tool and method for separating a femoral cup or a femoral ball from an implanted femoral implant without disturbing the femoral implant. The tool is comprised of upper and lower lever arms which turn on an adjustable fulcrum. The upper lever arm has a distal end adapted to engage a femoral cup or a femoral ball and the distal end of the lower lever arm engages the implant. Proximal ends of the lever arms engage a drive assembly which is used to cause the distal ends to move away from one another thereby separating the femoral cup or ball from the femoral implant.

COUPLING DEVICE FOR CONNECTING PROSTHESIS COMPONENTS BY A SELF-LOCKING PRESS FIT
20190269515 · 2019-09-05 · ·

A coupling device is for connecting prosthesis components by a self-locking press fit on an end, formed as a cone, of a first prosthesis component that is inserted in bone tissue. The coupling device has an outer coupling body with a socket having a conically tapering inner wall, and an expansion sleeve having a lateral surface forming a male taper and an operative forming a female tape. The expansion sleeve is mounted in the socket so as to be rotatable about the longitudinal axis thereof, and receives the cone. The expansion sleeve is expandable radially outwardly to form the self-locking press fit, such that the expansion sleeve widens radially when the cone is inserted into the expansion sleeve. As a result, the self-locking press fit between the cone of the first prosthesis component and the coupling device is established.

Thermally Securing Morse Taper
20190231559 · 2019-08-01 ·

An articular ball impactor having a heat resistant material used during heat shrink fit process for providing secure fixation of Morse taper components in modular orthopedic implants. The female Morse component of the articular ball is heated by electromagnetic unit providing thermal expansion. Subsequently, it is impacted over the male Morse taper component and then cooled by commonly used sterile irrigation fluid allowing the female Morse component to shrink thus providing considerable compression, fit and significant reduction of micromotion that has been so widely responsible of fretting and mechanical corrosion.

A reverse hip prosthesis include an acetabular cup arrangement configured for insertion into an acetabulum of a patient and fixation therein, an acetabular ball configured for threaded attachment to the acetabular cup arrangement, a femoral stem configured for insertion into an intramedullary femoral canal of the patient, and a femoral cup arrangement configured for attachment to the femoral stem and to operatively receive the acetabular ball therein. The acetabular cup arrangement includes an anchor portion which becomes fixed to the patient's acetabulum and is the largest size suitable for the patient, and an insert which comes in different sizes and are connectable to the anchor portion, so that the most appropriate insert for the patient may be used. The acetabular cup arrangement and ball are interconnected with a threaded stem that also functions as an artificial Ligamentum Teres.

The present invention provides a fused femoral stem system, including a curved short handle, a fixing mechanism and a femoral head prosthesis, one end of the curved short handle is provided with a conical connector, the conical connector is cooperatively connected with a conical connecting hole of the femoral head prosthesis, the other end of the curved short handle is inserted from the osteotomy surface of the femoral neck and stretches to the position of a medullary cavity below a small trochanter, and the curved short handle is connected and fixed with a large trochanter through the fixing mechanism. The present invention has the beneficial effects that, after the growing-in osseointegration with the sclerotin surrounding the proximal bone bed of the host after the surgery of the whole system, the mechanical influence on the retained femoral neck and the sclerotin in the vicinity of the large and small trochanters is substantially similar to the biomechanical state prior to the surgery.

Trial prosthesis system

According to various embodiments, a trial system (100) and instruments can be used to assist in confirming that a planned procedure is achieved. In various embodiments, the trial or provisional portions can include markings (110) on a trial or provisional portion to compare to one or more implanted members to ensure an planned position is achieved.
