Prosthetic femoral stem for use in high impact hip replacement

A total hip femoral prosthesis provides a shortened neck and more proximal coating level. Additionally, a means for strengthening the neck may be incorporated to increase stress transfer to the native bone. A method for reducing potential impingement that results from a high neck resection level includes instrumentation for cutting chamfered surfaces into the bone surrounding the proximal end of the implant. Instrumentation and methods of creating chamfered cuts are disclosed.

Femoral neck support structure, system, and method of use

A method of reinforcing a femoral neck comprises creating a bore proximate to at least one of a Ward's triangle and a greater trochanter, creating at least one cavity in a cancellous bone region of the femoral neck, inserting a substantially collapsed support structure through the bore and into the at least one cavity, expanding the support structure, and allowing at least a portion of the load from the femoral neck bone to be transferred to the support structure. The support structure compresses at least a portion of the cancellous bone upon expansion. A cavity created by the expansion is adapted to receive a filler material such as, but not limited to, bone cement.

HIP STEM PROSTHESIS

A hip stem prosthesis is provided for treating a deficient hip joint.

Intermediate body for a bone implant, and implant arrangement

An intermediate body is for a bone implant for replacement of an osseous area. The intermediate body has a base body and a seat which extends axially in the base body and is surrounded by a wall of the base body. The intermediate body is designed to receive and surround an end portion of an intramedullary implant part. A clamp device is assigned to the seat. A clamp component is arranged on the wall of the base body surrounding the seat. In order to clamp, the end portion is inserted beforehand into the seat relative to the wall of the base body. The wall then surrounds the seat and the inserted end portion is movable towards the seat and in the process clamps the end portion in the seat. An implant arrangement is provided with the intermediate body.

STRUCTURAL POROUS BIOMATERIAL AND IMPLANT FORMED OF SAME

An implant comprising a porous microstructure is disclosed which has an external surface, where at least a region of the external surface is formed of the porous microstructure. The microstructure is defined by at least one lattice of cells. Each cell has a predetermined cell topology and a plurality of edges. One or more of the edges of each cell connect to an adjacent cell along a corresponding edge thereof. Collectively, the cells have a periodic or aperiodic arrangement within the at least one lattice.

FEMORAL HIP STEM

Disclosed is a tapered femoral hip stem implant for use in total hip replacement surgery. The implant is constructed using anthropomorphic data to obtain an optimal configuration for use in hip replacement surgery as well as to promote bone regrowth in the anterior proximal dimensions. In certain aspects, the implant is particularly well suited for use in an anterior approach to total hip replacement surgery due to its relatively small stem length. The implant includes a 12 degree proximal taper, which affords inherent fixation and rotational stability and a 4 degree distal taper to reduce the possibility of stress shielding.

Hybrid Femoral Component Design for a Hip Prosthesis and Method of Stem Insertion

An improved hybrid femoral component design for a hip prosthesis has a cross section having a rectangular or other shape lateral end and a circular or elliptical medial end, where the medial anterior-posterior (AP) dimension of the implant is greater than the lateral AP dimension of the implant. The cross sectional axis of the circular or elliptical medial end may be inclined or partially offset in relation to the axis of the rectangular lateral end. The lateral side of the proximal stem may have a plurality of shapes. This hybrid proximal stem design lends itself to a hybrid proximal femoral preparation surgical technique where the medial calcar may be power reamed and the lateral femur and canal may be broached.

Modular endoprosthesis shaft system with rotation element

The invention relates to an endoprosthesis shaft system for elongate bones, comprising an anchoring part and a shaft, which is formed from module elements that can be coupled by means of a plug-in connection, wherein a mutual rotation of the elements along the shaft is adjustable and is blocked by means of an anti-rotation mechanism. In order to adjust the rotation, a rotation piece is provided as a further module element, which has a self-contained rotation adjustment device and a clamping device as a mechanism for blocking the rotation. The rotation piece comprises two end faces for the plug-in connection and a sleeve. The invention provides, with the rotation piece, a particular module element for the shaft, which as a structural unit allows both an adjustment of the rotation and a blocking against undesired rotation in a self-contained unit.
