BONE INSERT AUGMENT AND OFFSET METHOD
A bone insert includes a cap having a convex top surface, an elongated stem, and a barrier between the cap and the stem. The stem of the bone insert is inserted into a hole formed in a host bone until the barrier is pressed against the exposed bone. The bone implant can be placed against a small focus contact point on the cap. Liquid cement can be injected into a space volume between the host bone and a bone implant. The cap can be made of a material and/or have surface features that create a strong bond with the cement when the liquid cement cures. The stem can be made of a material and/or have bone ingrowth surface features that create a strong bond with the bone.
SURGICAL COMPONENT, KIT AND METHOD
A surgical component, a kit including the surgical component, and a surgical method. The surgical component includes a body portion. The surgical component also includes an elongate stem for inserting into an intramedullary canal of a patient. The elongate stem extends distally from the body portion. The elongate stem has a longitudinal axis; a proximal end; a distal end; and a plurality of splines located on an outer surface of the stem. The splines are circumferentially arranged around the stem. At least some of the splines are tapered such that each tapered spline is narrower at a distal part of that spline than at a part of that spline that is proximal with respect to the distal part. The surgical component further includes an elongate neck portion extending from the body portion at a non-zero angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the stem.
Hip or shoulder prosthesis and placement instruments
A hip/shoulder prosthesis includes: a head component; a metaphyseal component; a diaphyseal nail, and a locking device. The head component includes: a front face and rear face; with a bore, and first and second shaped recesses in the rear face. The metaphyseal component includes: a central transverse aperture at an angle to the metaphyseal component's axis; a first end configured for threaded engagement within the bore of the head component; and a longitudinal hole that begins at the second end, transects the transverse aperture and reaches the first end, to receive the locking device. The diaphyseal nail is inserted in the femoral or humeral canal, and includes: fastening apertures that receive corresponding screws for fastening the diaphyseal nail to the femur or humerus; a portion configured to be received within, and engage, the transverse aperture of the metaphyseal component, and a transverse hole configured to receive the locking device.
Prosthetic joint and manufacturing method for same
Provided is an artificial joint that can improve fatigue strength while achieving the ability to fix to a bone. An artificial joint 1 includes a stem portion 2. The stem portion 2 has a distal end for insertion into a bone and a proximal end opposite the distal end and includes a roughened surface portion 4 which is provided in a proximal end-side portion, which has a rougher surface than a distal end-side portion, and which is larger in cross-sectional area than the distal end-side portion. The roughened surface portion 4 includes a distal end-side edge section 7 and a proximal end-side section 7, the distal end-side edge section 7 including a distal end-side edge portion of the roughened surface portion 4, the proximal end-side section 7 being configured as a section closer to the proximal end than the distal end-side edge section 7 is to the proximal end. The distal end-side edge section 7 has a surface roughness Ra1 lower than a surface roughness Ra2, Ra3 of the proximal end-side section.
EXPANDABLE HIP STEM
Expandable hip stem implants, systems, and methods of implanting a hip stem during a hip arthroplasty are provided. The implant may include a proximal body having a neck terminating at a free end, a distal stem having a proximal portion coupled to the proximal body and a distal portion, and a plurality of expandable bodies aligned around the distal stem. The plurality of expandable bodies have a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration such that the plurality of expandable bodies expand radially outward away from one another.
SPACER DEVICE FOR THE CONTROL OF AILMENTS OR INFECTIONS
The present invention relates to a spacer device including a sensor as well as electronic means for obtaining and transmitting the data detected by the sensor.
Device to be implanted in human or animal tissue and method for implanting and assembling the device
An implant or endoprosthesis suitable to be implanted in human or animal tissue includes two (or more than two) parts to be joined in situ. Each one of the parts includes a joining location, the two joining locations facing each other when the device parts are positioned for being joined together, wherein one of the joining locations includes a material which is liquefiable by mechanical vibration and the other one of the joining locations includes a material which is not liquefiable by mechanical vibration and a structure (e.g. undercut cavities or protrusions) suitable for forming a positive fit connection with the liquefiable material. The joining process is effected by pressing the two device parts against each other and by applying ultrasonic vibration to one of the device parts when the two parts are positioned relative to each other such that the two joining locations are in contact with each other.

The surgical component further includes an elongate neck portion extending from the body portion at a non-zero angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the stem.
Bone Void Forming Apparatus
A bone void forming assembly includes a support member having a head portion and an elongate portion extending therefrom. A guide member is connected to the support member and has a guide body including a channel extending therethrough. The channel defines an axis offset and obliquely angled relative to an axis of the elongate portion. The assembly also includes reamer having a cutting head and a stop member. A bushing is slidably connected to the reamer between the stop member and cutting head and is slidably connectable to the guide body via the channel.
CUSTOM HIP DESIGN AND INSERTABILITY ANALYSIS
Computer implemented methods, systems, and computer products employing program code or algorithms for use in customized patient specific hip implants or femoral stems or sleeves having an outer surface that corresponds more closely to the inner surface of the cortical bone of a patient's femur compared to conventional hip implant or femoral stems or sleeves based on population-based design.
