SYNDESMOSIS REDUCTION DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE
An improved syndesmosis reduction device has a wrap of elastic material extending a length L from a first end to a second end with an open window or slot positioned in an intermediate portion of the wrap spaced from the ends. The wrap is configured to achieve a reduction of an injured ankle and is facilitated by the elastic nature of the ankle wrap. The reduction is facilitated by circumferentially wrapping the wrap from a leg to a foot or vice versa in a compressive fashion by securing the first end by wrapping and stretching the wrap to the second end. The window or slot is to permit an incision at the ankle for hardware placement without the need to remove the wrap and without loss of the reduction achieved.
NEGATIVE PRESSURE THERAPY SYSTEM WITH HEAT-MOLDABLE SPLINT
A kit (1500) for negative pressure and immobilization therapy includes a negative pressure dressing (100) configured to define a sealed volume between a patient's skin and the negative pressure dressing when applied to the patient, a pump (200) configured to be placed in pneumatic communication with the negative pressure dressing and operable to displace air from the sealed volume, and a heat-moldable splint (900). The heat-moldable splint includes a plurality of flexible tubes formed of a first material and coupled together to form a web and a second material positioned in the flexible tubes and having a lower softening or melting point than the first material.
Pelvic fracture splint
The pelvic fracture splint includes a first portion having a first end and an opposing second end and a second portion having an opening defined therein, the second portion extending downward from the first portion of the pelvic fracture splint substantially at the mid-section of the first portion. The pelvic fracture splint also includes a plurality of strips (preferably three strips) selectively fastening the opposing ends of the first portion and the second portion of the pelvic fracture splint to secure the pelvic fracture splint around the person's waist or hips and groin. The first portion includes a plurality of splints (rigid supports, preferably six in number) vertically positioned along the first portion at spaced apart positions. The opening in the second portion of the pelvic fracture splint may have a triangular shape to avoid placing any unnecessary pressure on the person's genitals.
Orthopedic device
An orthopedic system includes a base shell forming an opening over a dorsal aspect thereof and a dorsal shell contoured to generally correspond to the opening of the base shell. The base shell has a proximal member and a distal member connected to the proximal member, each has a semi-rigid shell configuration to protect and support a lower leg, an ankle, or a foot of a user when received in the orthopedic system. A flexible toe portion is attached to a distal terminal end area of the distal member and formed of a different material than the distal member. The flexible toe portion is arranged to terminate above an upper surface of the user's toes and to flex relative to the distal member and the toes so as to reduce the likelihood of pressure points on the toes from the distal member.
ANKLE FOOT ORTHOSIS
An ankle-foot orthosis having a foot plate defining a foot bed contoured to underlie the foot of the wearer, a flexible cuff configured to wrap around at least a portion of the shank of the wearer, and a strut assembly comprising a plurality of metal wires connecting the foot plate to the cuff. The plurality of metal wires may include piano wires. The foot plate may be fabricated with a computer aided manufacturing process.
RAPID SETTING COMPOSITE ARTICLE
A fiber-reinforced composite article useful in supporting or immobilizing an injured body part is disclosed. The composite is a multi-layer, flexible precursor including fiber reinforcement plies, which can be rapidly cured into a rigid body using a thermosetting resin. Methods of making and using the same are also disclosed, along with kits containing such composite articles.
Joint-support device
Disclosed herein is an adjustable joint-support apparatus and device for use in treating pain, inflammation, and or other injury to a joint and joint area of a body, and configured for physical and functional flexibility, in that the joint support is flexible and can be worn over clothing. The device is generally suited for support of an ankle joint, a knee joint, a wrist joint, although could also support an elbow, shoulder or hip joint with minimal modifications. In one embodiment, a joint support device/apparatus comprises: one or more of a support member; and at least one securement means configured for providing compression to the joint area of a wearer.
Device for preventing and treating foot and leg ulcers
A foot is configured to map location and size of the ulcerations to treated at the bottom of the foot. First and intermediate insoles are made from including semi-compressed felt. A third sole serving as the base of the device is made from including, but not limited to EVA. A cavity with beveled edges in the first insole is configured to match the location and size of the ulcerations. The first insole, the intermediate insole and the foot with ulcerations are placed in a compression sock which is equipped with a zipper and is detachably attached on the top surface of the third sole. The cavity channels the drainage or extrude from the ulcerations to the intermediate in sole where it is absorbed. The zipper provides comfort to the patient to put on and take off the compression sock with any disturbance to the ulcerations .The compression sock enhances the blood flow in the foot which prompts efficient and quick healing of the ulcerations or chronic wounds.
Heel float therapeutic footwear
A heel float therapeutic footwear for people that spend a large amount of time in bed. The heel float therapeutic footwear includes a lower leg support portion, a foot support portion, and a wing support structure. The foot support portion extends from the lower leg support portion and includes a foot support platform. The wing support structure is permanently or removably attached to the foot support platform. The wing support structure is adjustably fastenable to a side of the lower leg support portion to adjustably support a position and an angle of the foot support platform with respect to the lower leg support portion. A method of making a heel float therapeutic footwear is also disclosed.
ORTHOPEDIC DEVICES
Orthopedic devices and low temperature shrinking materials used in such devices are described in this application. The low temperature shrinkable materials have a shrink ratio ranging up to about 7:1 at a low temperature ranging from about 100 to about 150 F. Using these lower temperatures to shrink the materials of the orthopedic devices onto the body part of the patient has less risk of injuring the patient than previous materials. The orthopedic devices can contain different sections with higher and lower amounts of the low temperature shrinkable materials. Other embodiments are described.
