A splint device for stabilizing and/or securing a limb or appendage in a fixed position is provided. The splint device can include a first plate member and a second plate member connected together at one end by a hinged connection member. The hinged connection member can be configured to allow each plate member to be rotated relative to one another and selectively locked into a fixed position. The splint device can include a third plate member connected to the second plate member by a second hinged connection. The rotation of each plate member relative to the other can allow the splint device to be selectively positioned in a fixed configuration to generally match the shape and contour of a limb or appendage in a desired configuration. The splint device permits the accommodation of a joint (elbow, wrist, knee, ankle), and may provide for multiple configurations at a splinted limb.

An ankle-foot orthosis having a foot plate defining a foot bed contoured to underlie the foot of the wearer, a flexible cuff configured to wrap around at least a portion of the shank of the wearer, and a strut assembly comprising a plurality of metal wires connecting the foot plate to the cuff. The plurality of metal wires may include piano wires. The foot plate may be fabricated with a computer aided manufacturing process.

DEVICE FOR THE TREATMENT OF MEDIAL TIBIAL STRESS SYNDROME AND OTHER CONDITIONS OF THE LOWER LEG

A calf brace for the treatment of MTSS (shin splints) and other conditions of the lower leg, including the foot, includes a strap arrangement that is used to locate pressure nodes that target specific areas of a wearer's calf muscle to facilitate release of the calf muscle. In one embodiment, the straps are anchored to a sleeve that can be pulled onto the wearer's calf muscle over the foot. Targeted zones may include the point on the calf where the soleus muscle attaches to the posterior head of the fibula, the point where the soleus muscle attaches to the middle third of the tibia; and the back of the calf at approximately the junction of the Achilles tendon and the triceps surae muscle. A compressive rod may also be aligned with approximately the distal one third of the medial border of the tibia where periosteal elevation and inflammation is thought to occur.
