A conformable and reconfigurable orthosis is provided. The conformable and reconfigurable orthosis comprises a central core metallic wire resistive heating element, an electrically insulating layer such as glass fiber or nylon fiber, and a structural layer of carbon fiber composites. The conformable and reconfigurable orthosis further comprises a thermal insulation and/or a skin compatible cushioning layer.

SPLINT DEVICE
20210106449 · 2021-04-15 ·

A splint device for stabilizing and/or securing a limb or appendage in a fixed position is provided. The splint device can include a first plate member and a second plate member connected together at one end by a hinged connection member. The hinged connection member can be configured to allow each plate member to be rotated relative to one another and selectively locked into a fixed position. The splint device can include a third plate member connected to the second plate member by a second hinged connection. The rotation of each plate member relative to the other can allow the splint device to be selectively positioned in a fixed configuration to generally match the shape and contour of a limb or appendage in a desired configuration. The splint device permits the accommodation of a joint (elbow, wrist, knee, ankle), and may provide for multiple configurations at a splinted limb.

Shoulder immobilizer and fracture stabilization device

A shoulder immobilizer (20) includes a semi-rigid or rigid orthosis, in the form of an arm support (22), which supports the upper arm, elbow, forearm and wrist of a patient. A bolster (24) is positioned between the patient and the arm support (22). A body strap (26) extends around the patient and attaches to the arm support (22) and/or the bolster (24), holding the arm support and bolster in position against the body of the patient. In embodiments, the shoulder immobilizer (20) may utilize a shoulder strap (28), but such a shoulder strap is not necessary for shoulder immobilization of the patient.

IMPROVED TUBULAR VENTING DEVICE FOR SURGICAL CASTS AND OTHER ORTHOPEDIC DEVICES
20210059850 · 2021-03-04 ·

Described is a venting device including a flexible outer covering defining an outer surface and an inner surface, a set oc of helicoidal venting strips, and a set of helicoidal buffers. The outer covering has a first end and a second end and a longitudinal axis therebetween. Each venting strip is anchored to the inner surface and extends substantially between the first end and the second end and the set of venting strips is arranged substantially helicoidal and defines a set of helicoidal seams therebetween. The set of helicoidal buffers includes a buffer covering an inner opening of each seam of the set of helicoidal seams where eachbuffer is configured to shield the inner opening of the corresponding seam from penetration and each buffer is anchored to at least one of the outer covering and a neighbouring venting strip of the set of venting strips.

A SPLINT FOR AN INFANT
20210077715 · 2021-03-18 ·

The invention relates to a splint for an infant. It has a body including an insert of a malleable material, wherein the body has a longitudinal axis, a first arm extending from an edge of the body in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis; and a second arm, spaced apart from the first arm, extending from the edge of the body in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The arms wrap around the limb of the infant and provide a surface for using medical tape or the like, thus avoiding the need for the tape to come into contact with the skin of the infant. In addition, the malleable insert allows the splint to be deformed and hold its shape if the splint is to be used on a joint of the limb.

BRACES FOR IMMOBILIZING A CLAVICLE FRACTURE IN AN INFANT AND RELATED METHODS
20210085506 · 2021-03-25 ·

Braces for immobilizing clavicle fractures in infants may include a garment of fabric sized and shaped to extend around a torso and along at least one arm of an infant. The garment may include a first closure configured to secure the garment around the torso of the infant, a second closure configured to secure the garment over a shoulder corresponding to a fractured clavicle of the infant, and a sleeve configured to extend around an upper and lower arm of the infant on a same lateral side of the garment as the second closure. The sleeve may include at least a third closure configured to secure the sleeve around the upper and lower arm of the infant. A portion of the sleeve may be affixed to a portion of the garment, the portion of the garment to which the sleeve may be affixed being located over the torso of the infant when the garment is secured around the torso of the infant.

Orthopedic brace

The present embodiments provide a brace which includes an actuator. The actuator provides movement of the arm and shoulder, abduction movement, so that during recovery from shoulder surgery, the shoulder and arm movement may be supported in increased range of motion positions. This may be done with a single brace rather than requiring multiple braces during the recovery process.

STABILIZING SACPULAR REHABILITATION BRACE
20210038421 · 2021-02-11 ·

A stabilizing scapular rehabilitation brace that operates to aid patients in rehabilitating their shoulder joint in an anatomically correct manner with the trapezius is locked down in order to prevent substantial upward shoulder shrug movements. The stabilizing scapular rehabilitation brace includes a shoulder harness, a stabilization strap, and a thigh strap, with the stabilization strap operating to both tighten the shoulder harness on a user and connect and anchor the shoulder harness to the thigh strap. With the shoulder harness operating to keep the user's shoulder blades retracted and the thigh strap and stabilization strap preventing the shoulder harness, these components work together to emulate the same hand on trapezius area function that therapists manually apply to patient rehabbing a shoulder condition in-clinic.
